Title: Pinball FX3 gets Williams license
Post by: idolminds on Tuesday, October 09, 2018, 10:02:04 PM
I thought I made a thread on this but I guess not? Huh.
For a long time if you wanted to play recreations of classic real life Williams pinball tables you needed to play The Pinball Arcade. Suddenly it was announced that they lost the license and everyone wondered what was up. Lots of people bought all the tables before it got pulled from digital stores. Then recently we found out why, and Zen Studios acquired the license for their game Pinball FX3.
It just so happens I have gotten into FX3 so this is great news for me!
The first pack is out now with 3 tables: Medieval Madness, Getaway, and Junk Yard. There is a bonus free table, Fish Tales, that everyone gets. So if you download Pinball FX3 on any platform (which its on basically everything) you will get Fish Tales and their old free table Sorcerers Lair to play for free. Its pretty cool.
The thing that is more interesting is they have spent a lot of time tweaking their ball physics for these tables. FX3 has a reputation of kind of easy computer game ball physics that aim for...I dunno, more fun? Less stressful pinball? Since it wasnt trying to suck quarters out of you it and none of the tables existed in real life anyway they could make it feel how they wanted. Some pinball purists hated it for that reason and stuck with Pinball Arcade for the real life tables and physics. The new physics feel pretty realistic to me but Im no expert. Table definitely seems harder and more like a real table.
Anywho, check it out if you dig pinball. 2 free tables!

I was into FX2 for some time.  I understand wanting at least the option of original/realistic physics on the real tables.  I'm sure there's going to be a push for that, now that everyone knows what's happening to the Williams license.

Does FX3 improve a lot on FX2?  I've been curious, but haven't been on a pinball kick lately, so I've sort of forgotten all about it.

I couldn't say, never did play FX2. I've enjoyed FX3 quite a bit, though. I've bought all their original non-licensed tables so far.
