See, this is what sucks about online-only games.  It's like.. okay, I loved that game, and now I don't get to play it ever again.  How... horrible.

I like how they threw it in the middle of the list with the worst games ever made. I wonder how much online play Professional Bull Rider 2 and 3-D Ultra Cool Pool got.

But yeah, that sucks.

Agreed.

So, wait -- w/ Tribes, you could never just plan on any old computer server?
You had to play over Sierra's servers?

No no, the master server is where every other server reports to. When you go into your game browser, it pings the master server. The master server sends you a list of currently running servers, which you can then ping and join. Without a master server, finding servers to play on becomes much more difficult.

So, as an update to the Tribes situation. Garage Games (made up of ex-Dynamix people, who made Tribes) are going to try set up a master server and get Vivendi/Sierra to forward the domain to them so the game will still function as normal. So there is hope left.

Okay, so here's my next question -- do MOST MP-Only based games (like RTCW: ET, Battlefield series, Unreal Tournament series, etc etc) go this route???

That's good that Garage is trying to do something about the situation and all.

Vivendi/Sierra still owns the Tribes IP, right?? So, do you think Vivendi/Sierra will allow Garage to do such a thing???

Oh, BTW -- it really sucks that Vivendi is doing nothing is w/ the Tribes IP for futures Tribes games, right now.

If by "most" you mean "all", then yes. They all have master servers.

Yes, VU still own the Tribes brand. They might allow GG to host the master server. Don't really see a reason for them not to allow it since it would only mean the game stays up. But VU is pretty stupid so we'll see.

Starseige: Tribes is being ported over to GarageGames' InstantAction service.

Oh, and it's going to have enhanced graphics also. (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57696)
