Title: Car help
Post by: Ghandi on Tuesday, October 07, 2008, 03:20:53 PM
Any electricians on the board?

I was driving about half an hour ago and smoke started to come up from the back of my steering wheel - around where it connects to the ignition panel thingy (yeah, I'm bad with cars). It wasn't a lot of smoke but it smelled like plastic and was clearly electrical. So I stopped driving and turned it off, and narrowed it down to my headlights. Turning them on started it all. Which makes sense, because my lowbeams stopped working for about a week, then started up again, then stopped working again, and are now working again. So clearly something is wrong there.

Honestly I don't expect a lot of help other than "go get it fixed" but I *really* don't want to spend any money. So I'm fishing for a miracle here (i.e. "You're in luck, Ghandi! I'm a lowbeam electrician specialist!).

Thanks :) .

That's not good at all.  It's probably a short, which could start a fire.  It may not be too expensive to fix.  Depends on what they have to do.  Good luck.

That's relative. ;)

$75 just for the diagnostic. If it's under $250 total I'll be happy.
