Title: Streamlining installs over a network?
Post by: beo on Friday, October 28, 2011, 06:04:00 AM
got a load of middle aged PCs that we're updating to windows 7 (along with installing all the gubbins that goes on after) and i'd rather not do it one box at a time. there is quite a range of different harware configurations in the network, so i'm thinking drive cloning software is out. Anyone got any bright ideas?

SCCM is your best bet, but have fun with that.  It will take months just to get it working as you like, nevermind fill an immediate need.

Windows 7 isn't hardware specific like XP was.  You could still do imaging through something like WDS, but you would want to consider injecting all the different drivers into the WIM.
