lost ye olde ipod
« on: Friday, September 29, 2006, 10:58:45 AM »
Lost my iPod... NO idea where, FUCK

Now I have no music for the bus, and no money to buy a new mp3 player. While I may have disliked my iPod, I most certainly would have preferred to actually have it still.

Son of a cock sucking bitch motherfucker shit balls fuck

That sucks. On the occasional day I forget to charge my player or to pick it up on my way out I go damned near insane while I'm traveling about.... I feel much of your pain.

The only portable I have is the iRiver iMP-350 CD/MP3 player... I haven't used it in years.  I'd like to have something like an iPod, but I know it would probably just sit in a drawer someplace.

That's what my MP3 player does.

<insert obligatory I hate fucking ipods comment here>

But seriously, just go buy a freaking CD player.  You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars to play MP3s.  You can get an MP3/CD player for like 10 to 20 bucks US these days.  And blank CDs aren't exactly pricey.  Hell, you probably have half a dozen of those just lying around the house.

I can think of at least five good arguments against MP3/CD players:

1. Can't fit in jeans pocket
2. Lower song capacity
3. Syncing your music library is more difficult and time-consuming
4. No videos, photos, or games
5. They're ugly and make you look like you're from the 1990's

Oh and for CD players, they seem to have CD-shock issues.. The music often cuts up while I'm jogging, or in a car. Well, in all fairness it was a cheap CD player from a few years back.

1.  Sure they can.  I use mine at work all the time.
2.  Buy more CDs.  How many songs do you really need at once?
3.  Sync what?  Who gives a fuck?  Just throw the damn things on the disk.  You don't have to *do* anything.
4.  Who cares?
5.  I'm already ugly and look like I'm from the 1990's.  It's a non-issue.

But really, I just mean as a stopgap measure.  If you're super-into MP3s, obviously a dedicated player with an HD is the way to go.  But if you're just waiting until you find another, an MP3/CD player makes a great and super-cheap backup.

Really? I can just barely fit my 3rd gen iPod into my front pocket. Although, admittedly, I do wear pretty slim cut jeans.

Not that many. I get by with a 1 GB memory stick on my phone most of the time. Still, it would be nice to be able to have my entire music library with me.

Say I discover this great new song I want to listen to. So I have to open up Nero, find a CD-R, burn the song, maybe along with some other songs (since having just one song on a CD seems like a waste). Two weeks later, I'm annoyed with the song and want to get rid of it, but still keep the other songs on the CD. This gets complicated. Even if I'm using CD-RWs, having to reburn the disc takes time.

Compare this to just docking an iPod and having iTunes synchronize the playlists via USB 2.0...

4.  Who cares?
People who want to play Tetris and watch Family Guy on their way to work. Me, for one!

5.  I'm already ugly and look like I'm from the 1990's.  It's a non-issue.
But Acey seems like an attractive, trendy guy... you shouldn't be forcing your antiquated propaganda on him :P

I use my mp3 player when I work out sometimes, but thats about it.

When I worked at the ceramics factory I listened to it constantly though.  For me it is just more of a pain to keep a fresh selection of content on the player than it is to just go without.

Funny you should post this actually.  I just... "lost" my iPod about a month ago.  Brand new Nano 4GB.  I went home one weekend, and left my shit in my apartment thinking nobody would be stupid enough to go into my closed room while I'm not here and steal it.  Sure enough, one of my roomates had people over and somebody must have gotten in here, because I came back to find my dresser drawers all opened, and my iPod stolen.  I was fucking pissed.

I am liking the new iTunes though.

I guess ipods make sense for those who use public transport or work in offices. I am the boss so I make my own rules. Plus when I am in the car, I just use my Pioneer mp3 system that I got for my car recently. I'd rather listen to music through nice powerful speakers than headphones any day.

I think one of the best accessories for the iPod is the FM tuner!

Actually a friend of mine got a new Sony-Ericsson K800 mobile phone; the phone is sweet! He got a 2 GB SD card for it, and that's what he uses for portable music.. He also got an FM tuner for his phone so he can listen to his music on his car stereo. Funky.

Except they charge $50 extra for a fucking FM tuner when every other MP3 player just includes it in the hardware. You can go buy a standalone FM tuner for $1...WTF?

I really want that K800 (or k790 in North America, but not yet available) phone.  It's hella expensive though.

Anyway, having the FM tuner is a nice feature, but typically, I've found the reception to be pretty lousy so I haven't bothered with it.  Besides, the music I listen to isn't played on the radio.  :P

I think by FM Tuner he meant FM Transmitter, which allowed you to play your ipod through a radio station. That way, you can listen to it in the car if you don't have a cassette adaptor or an auxillary jack.

If that's the case, no mp3 players come with them, and you can buy one for $15. You only pay $50 if you want one made especially for ipod (aesthetically pleasing and charges), but who cares about that?

I am considering it myself.

Used to have the k750 then got the w800 and now looking at the k800/790, which features a 3.2 mp camera. My only issue is that they don't want to change the looks of their phones.

Why'd you bother "upgrading", if you don't mind me asking? I mean, they're pretty much the same phone, except for the media player and that one is black and the other is white. You can even put the W800 firmware on the K750.

But I agree with you, the K800 looks absolutely brilliant. Although, I think I'll tough it out with my K750 for another few months and wait for the K850/K900/whatever their next model is going to be called.

It was actually because my k750 was majorly faulty. It kept crashing etc. so I sold it to the people I bought it from.

Plus it was the first iteration of the K750i and thus the case was extremely flimsy.

Good low cost option:

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18873&vpn=70PF163300013&manufacture=Creative%20Labs

IF you really want to save $10 on that you could get the 512mb version from futureshop or best buy.  I have the txfm (basically the same  with a different form factor and built in usb key) and I'm a big fan.
