Starbreeze sure would be capable to work on a SS3, I'd think...

Damn.  Starbreeze is possibly the one company that wouldn't make me sad if I found out they were going to do SS3.  I really like Starbreeze and have ever since I played Enclave, and I think they've got the FPS chops to actually improve that franchise.  My first reaction to this thread was "ugh", but now I'm actually getting a little excited.  I fucking hate EA and all, but... something cool could come out of this.

Just please God don't let it be Bond.

(Seriously, I doubt that one.)

General Chaos would be amazing!

Given Starbreezes track record I'd guess it's going to be an action game (rather than sports or racing), but Road Rash seems very plausible.

I'd love a new Road Rash game if it were done well.

I loved 1-3 on the genesis.

I loved the original Road Rash.  I had all of them at one point, including the 3DO version, and eventually the PC port.  Two of the songs from the 3DO version are in Burnout Paradise (Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" and another I can't name off the top of my head like that).  The game is simply credited to Electronic Arts.  They were a positive force 15 years ago, but I wonder who really is behind the 16-bit technology.  It was quite a leap for the Genny.

Edit:  Hmm.  Is there a connection here?   :-\

Starbreeze needs to get their heads together again for another Riddick game, cause you know, Escape from Butcher Bay was fanfuckingtastic.

Does anyone really think that a modern Road Rash would be any fun at all?  I can't imagine how.

Edit:  Sorry, "Rash," not "Rage."

It's called Burnout now, Revenge and Paradise.  Cars, not bikes.  Funny you should say "Road Rage".  That's what some of the events are called in Paradise.  How many opponents can you take down before time expires?

I'm just picturing riding around on motorcycles hitting people with chains.  It was dumb when the game came out.  It certainly won't be any better now.

Yeah, I knew that "Road Rage" was a slip-up/typo, Freudian or whatever.  It was a good launchpad to bring up the Burnout games as the sort of spiritual successors to the Road Rash concept--races and fights in civilian vehicles on the streets.  I don't know if an evolution of Road Rash would work today or not.  I would like to see a good attempt.

I fail to see exactly how the game mechanic was ever 'dumb'.  It was a pretty original idea back in the day.  Course, I enjoyed the games immensely.  Basically if they just released an updated road rash game and didn't change much aside from fleshing a few things out and taking advantage of some new tech i'd be very happy.

It's games like this that don't need to become overly ambitious if remade.  It also needs to stay in the right hands to stay true to the originals.  I hate shitty updates...I'm looking at you Final Fight:  Streetwise.

The game mechanic wasn't dumb.  The entire game was dumb.  I found it pretty lame.  There were a lot better games out.

We're talking about the same thing, right?  16-bit original Road Rash from around 1991.  I agree that the later versions were not anywhere near as big a deal.  I thought it was terrific at the time.

The original was pretty cool when it came out, I'll agree.  I thought the rest of them were sort of lame, though, since it was really a one-trick pony for me.  The PC/PS version soundtrack I still have lying around somewhere, but yeah, I just never got into that one.  That isn't to say I wouldn't be interested in a new one, though.  It would definitely have to be more than the old ones, but it could still be fun.  The last game was corny in a pretty good way, as I recall.

I still remember the funky style the 3DO (or in my case Sega Saturn) version had. It'd be nice to see the wacky stuff again:

I'm just trying to visualize a revival.

I just played a bit of MotoGP, and sometimes on the track I wish I could kick or chain-whip other bikers.

Oh, yes.  Memories.  I was so disappointed in the 3DO, and even Road Rash, which was just about the best game on that system (sad, I know) reminded me of how far below expectations it was.  All those funky images were completely static.  Besides the dated game graphics, the only animation was these cheesy FMVs we got as an intro and as cutscenes when a race was over.

WTF happened to Road Rash?

If we ever do see a revival, it will hopefully look more like this, except with bikes instead of cars.

If that's true, it's really fucking stupid.  I mean I'm not against Road Rash being remade at all, but I'm completely against wasting Starbreeze's talent on something like that.  I can't imagine that's really true... maybe they're bringing the game back and Starbreeze is working on something else?

I know they could do justice to the game, and maybe it's just me, but I don't think it's worth their time.  Another EFBB or Darkness game would make me a lot happier.

I, for one, welcome it.  What I played of the Darkness was fantastic, and Pyro swears by Riddick.  This means maybe they're capable of making a good Road Rash game and not fucking it up.

Sebastian Bach cock rock is just icing on the cake.

Yeah, hearing Road Rash after thinking about Starbreeze taking on SS3 pretty much ensured there was no way I'd be interested in the former.  Of course, basically anything that they could announce would pale in comparison to how I'd feel about them doing SS3, so I guess in the end this was bound to happen.

Roadrash could be fun if it was more like Burnout and less like....Road Rash.

I do agree with Scott to a point, although I used to like the games quite a bit.  The thing was that there really wasn't much there.  By the time the PSX version came around the fighting sucked so much that I'd basically just play it to race and occasionally kick my competition in front of an oncoming car.

I'm optimistic, but if they fuck up either component, it's going to be pretty lame.

New rumor here.
It's possible that Syndicate might be the franchise being reinvented for EA.

EA at work on new Syndicate

EA is set to reveal a brand new entry in Bullfrog's cult classic Syndicate series, CVG has been told.

Cast your mind back to when Starbreeze struck that deal with EA to resurrect one of the publisher's "classic franchises" and Syndicate was hotly tipped. Starbreeze definitely sounds like a good fit for the gritty cyberpunk universe as well.

No more details were offered by our secret agent, but to see a current-gen remake of the PC and PSOne RTS - which still has a cherished place in many a veteran gamer's heart - would no doubt please many.

In case you're wondering what we're on about, the original Syndicate was released in 1993 and later followed up in 1996 by Syndicate Wars.

The game put players in charge of a militant global corporation, and tasked them with leading cyborg agents around a gritty cyberpunk world rescuing captured allies and assassinating rival syndicate executives. It was awesome.

We'll let you know if our deepthroats are on the money. In the meantime, which genre would you like to see a modern day Syndicate sliced into?

Yeah.

Molyneux was recently asked what game he wished he could do a remake or sequel to, Syndicate was his answer.

It was in one of the interviews for Fable 2; it's somewhere in that thread.
I'll go find it.
