Red Cliff is a new Chinese epic film directed by John Woo. In Asia, it's being released as a two-part film totalling over 4 hours in length, detailing the Battle of the Red Cliffs. Internationally, I believe it is going to be released as a single movie about 2.5 hours in length.
I got a chance to see the first part... and I am disappointed. It doesn't feel epic and the characters are completely flat. It tries really hard to be epic though, and the feeling of pretentiousness is evident throughout the entire film.
Then the film abruptly ends with a To be continued...
Still, it was interesting to see a John Woo film again--he hasn't directed a new movie in several years.
