He was 84, and it took a serious case of pneumonia to kill him.  Bummer.

When I first read this, I was thinking Liam Neeson and was like "Holy shit!"  But then I saw the stuff about the "comedic actor" and was like "Oh yeah the guy from The Naked Gun".

Sucks.  I really liked him in Airplane! and The Naked Gun.

Naked Gun and Airplane! were my favourite movies growing up. Sadly I have no idea what else he's done.

Forbidden Planet is how I got to meet him.  He used to be a regular leading man in movies.  Later he said he had been cast against type for years, and finally got to do what he wanted to do (comedy).  I guess that leading-man look and presence made it difficult.

That was a bit of sad news but he's had a great life and made it to 84. May he rest in peace.
