My wife's uncle was in a hit and run
« on: Saturday, April 11, 2015, 11:31:25 AM »
He is about 70 years old and one of the nicest people I met in her family. Really welcomed me with open arms and always made an effort to get to know me and talk to me. Very good natured and kind.

At this moment he is in critical condition. His kidneys have failed and a clot gave him a heart attack.

This tragedy started two weeks ago when he was returning home late at night with his wife. Almost at his gate when a car smashed into theirs in the dark so hard that it dragged them until they hit a wall. The car hit the driver's side where he was seated and the impact hurt his head.

The coward drove off without checking on the elderly couple.

My wife's uncle some how managed to drive the wrecked car home while his wife was in shock. When they entered the house he collapsed. Vomited. Lost consciousness.

An ambulance was called as well as family nearby who took him to the hospital.

Had the man who had hit them waited he could have helped them. As it was, it took 40-50 minutes after the impact for him to get to the hospital.

Slowly his condition has worsened. It began with the head trauma and recently he had a heart attack as a result of a clot from the accident. His kidneys failed today. His sons are rushing here from the USA.

It's a terrible tragedy. Difficult to keep yourself composed because of the nature of the incident and the fact that he was such a nice person.

Geez, that's terrible.  Hit-and-runs happen all the time here in Florida too and every time I hear about one I get so pissed off.  At the same time, I see why it happens because it can be pretty easy to get away and avoid having your life completely ruined by lawsuits and jail time and a criminal record.

Still, cowards.  I hope your uncle (in law?) pulls through.

Yup uncle-in-law you can call him. It seems very unlikely. It is difficult to keep myself composed but I am trying because my wife's family and my wife are finding it so hard.

It really does piss me off. Thank you Scottws.

Just frustrating.

It really is just cowards. I would guess the vast majority of hit-and-runs are legitimate accidents, but hte person panics and takes off.

Sorry to hear about your uncle in law. :(

Again thank you for the kind words. His sons came from the USA to bury him. One found out on the plane through wi-fi and whatsapp. They are in shock. It's the manner in which it happened. Hit and run.

Sorry for your loss.

I hope they somehow catch the person.

I was in a hit and run when I was a few weeks pregnant but fortunately someone saw the guy's plate number and was able to call it in.
Taken.
