I just saw "Casino Royale" last week, I thought Craig would make a shitty Bond so I avoided the movie. He's an ok Bond, but the movie itself was awesome.

I knew that all opinions cancel out on the internet, but I didn't think they would here.  Casino Royale terrible?  I must have seen a different movie.  You don't mean the 60s' spoof with David Niven do you?

I grew up with James Bond.  Connery made the character,  Moore almost destroyed it, what's his name carried it with a bit of pretty-boy flair until recently, and now Craig has taken it back to the bad-ass roots.  Finally.  I hope the new movie lives up to Casino Royale.  From the trailer, it seems to be a direct sequel.

What!? Moore brought it back from the dead! Connery was the first, but he was never a bad ass. The Connery movies haven't aged well at all, they just come off as cheesy nowadays.

How can you say Connery's movies were cheesy when Moore was the one in Moonraker and Octopussy?

Anyway, I thought that Casino Royale was awesome, if a little long-winded.  It seemed to have like eight times it should or could have ended.

Moore's were way cheesier.  Come on.  Moonraker?  The invulnerable bad guy Jaws?  Were you, of all people, actually able to sit through Live and Let Die?  How about the flying AMC Matador in The Man with the Golden Gun?

Moore made fun of his character.  It became a one-liner fest, a self-parody.

I noticed something sort of interesting on the James Bond Wikipedia pageTomorrow Never Dies cost nearly twice as much to make as Goldeneye.  It's interesting what can be done with a "modest" amount of money, because Goldeneye was by far the best of the Brosnan Bonds.

Am I the only person that thinks Pierce Brosnan is a total douchebag?  I don't really have anything against Bond, I just never got into it... but he definitely turned me off to the modern movies.  I can't stand that guy.  Maybe it's just the roles I've seen him play, but I've hated all of them.

That's whose name I couldn't pull out of my head for some reason.  I have no problems with Brosnan.  I thought he did a fine, if unspectacular job keeping the franchise alive.  He was welcome relief from Roger Moore.

Actually, he was relief from Timothy Dalton.  I'll never forget in one of the Dalton movies where he pops the clutch in a semi truck and it does a wheelie.  Yeah, they have a lot of torque, but not even anywhere in the universe of having enough to do anything like that.  As if a truck doing a wheelie wasn't unbelievable enough by itself, the worst part was that the effect was extremely poor; the truck basically pivoted in front of the two sets of rear wheels so that they both stayed on the ground while the front lifted up.  Pretty piss poor, and I even thought so the last time I saw it when I must have been 12 or something.

Yeah, Dalton only did 2 movies.  As I understand it, Brosnan's commitment to that TV series with Stephanie Zimbalist prevented him from taking the role earlier, and he was not at all happy about that.

Casino Royale was my favourite Bond movie so I'm pumped for the new one. Hopefully they keep the spirit of the last one alive.

Well, maybe not terrible. But as Scott pointed out, it should have ended 15 different times. It didn't seem like a well-rounded Bond movie to me. I'll save judgment on the new Bond until after I see the new movie, but after the first one I wasn't terribly impressed.

Moonraker wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that good. It was basically a special effects movie trying to cash in on the success of Star Wars. The Moore movies didn't take themselves too seriously, but the Connery movies were just as lame while trying to be serious. Oddjob was lame, but that one movie where Connery throws piss in that guys face and he faints was horrible.

I've never been a huge fan, but I've always enjoyed the movies.  I think the franchise under Brosnan was aging quite a bit, it was past time for a reinvention.

Casino Royale did drag out much longer than it needed to.  I watched it a couple nights ago, and remember thinking, God, is it over yet?

Awesome action sequences and excellent acting from the cast...

...But the plot itself and the character depth feels lacking -- especially when compared to the last film (Casino Royale). Worst of all with the plot here -- is that it also feels incomplete with some threads hanging and (almost) ends on a note it really didn't need to.

Ending talk SPOILERS
(click to show/hide)

Quantum of Solace feels like a middle film in a trilogy or say an episode just setting up for a much huger episode that'll come way later.

Overall, it was decent - but it should've been better than what it was.

Pierce Brosnan was my favorite Bond. I liked Sean Connery as well.

I hated Roger Moore though. When he started, he was OK. But later he just got too damn old for the role.

I thought Casino Royale was awesome, and recently bought it on blu-ray.

Anyway, I just watched Quantum on blu-ray, and it was very disappointing.

Martin Campbell has made two of the best Bond films to date; Golden Eye and of course Casino Royale. He is also currently doing the Green Lantern movie, which could be good. Too bad he didn't come back for this one.

Marc Forster, who helmed Quantum, was a bad choice for a Bond film. He is the guy who directed among other films, Monster's Ball (that interracial porn which won an oscar), Kite Runner, and Finding Neverland. I don't think he was the right guy.

You buffoon. :P How does this quantify as the same thing? I'd rather post my thoughts on the movie I just watched in the already existing thread, rather than create a new one.

I was OK with Quantum.  It struck me as a small movie (unlike Royale) more focused on character development than action or spectacle.  There's no question that Royale is the better movie.

Loved Royale, didn't like Quantum. The writing just went downhill badly, directing was meh and it just didn't go anywhere all that interesting compared to Royale.

And, I really liked Brosnan. I just thought the movies they wrote for him were horrible.

Yeah, Quantum of Solace was pretty lame.  It had almost no direction and the plot was almost secondary to what seemed like random scenes that had no purpose in advancing the story.

It was baaad.

I'm really curious to see what the next installment is like.  Craig has a lot of potential (see: Royale), and it would be shame for him to turn into a Timothy Dalton.  I think the next one will pretty much dictate what he is.
Suck it, Pugnate.

Not only did I not like the story and choppy action, but did anyone else find Bond to be extremely unlikable? Everything that made his awesome in the old movies (charm, wit, gadgets, general good) is not present in the new Bond movies.

I find Craig to be the closest yet to Connery.  When he beats the shit out of somebody, I believe it.  Brosnan was great at everything else, but too slight for the brawling.  Moore practically mocked the character of Bond.  Craig has a somewhat morose approach, I grant you.  It makes the character more serious, and in light of the near 50 years of society's changes since Connery started, more believable.
