So I've taken up crochet. Made a few scarves but that gets kinda boring. The reason I learned it is to make stuffed toys, also known as amigurumi. And so for my first finished project I present to you...the Invader Zim piggy!

Haha man, that is awesome!
Now if you can manage your crochet skills to fabricate a dog-suit Gir that would be flippin' impressive! haha
-
Heh, thanks. And Ive seen a few patterns for dog suit Gir. I even picked up the perfect bright green yarn for it, but I think I'm going to make a Gir hat instead of a toy.

Dude, I might actually offer to buy a Gir hat if you make it! ;D

So good!

Going to turn this into my crochet thread. So! Update!
After the piggy I wanted something simple that I could just whip out. It also had the added bonus of teaching me how to switch colors, and I ended up making two of these. The first one with green yarn but then the stripe didn't look right. It was really offset when done. So then I looked up how to lessen that effect. I ended up learning two things on this one then, and here is my final result. The Pokeball!

And now the thing I've been working on for the last day or so. Was talking with Que in IRC saying I was looking for a new project and that I had a ton of red yarn. So he said Super Meat Boy!

He's still a work in progress. I got lucky on the eyes, found those two in my moms tin of buttons but they were the only two. I'll have to pick up some "safety eyes" as they are called, made just for this sort of thing. I'm not sure what to do with the mouth yet. Could maybe do the big toothy grin with some felt, but haven't decided.
I have a lot of pink yarn too, so I might also make Bandage Girl to go with him.
-
Daw. He doesn't even need a mouth.
-
Well thats a good fallback then if I can't figure out something good. But here is my artists concept of what I might do. Black would be felt, white just some yarn.

You are really talented.
-
Huh. When you put it like that... that's kinda awesome too.
-
Those are awesome. I would pay for a Super Meat Boy one.

Yeah I was fine without a mouth but that has the potential to look even better! What would you charge for the Super Meat Boys?
-
Haha I would love a Super Meat Boy on my desk! ;D
-
I'm not really sure yet, its not something I've really thought about. Materials-wise hes pretty cheap (well, gotta see what the eyes are but I can't imagine it being a lot), it's mostly the time involved to make him.

Work in progress on the mouth. Not sure how I feel about it. I don't have any fabric glue so its not attached yet, just sort of pressed it on there to grab the pic. So it would lay flatter once I actually glue it.
Alternatively I could maybe just embroider a smile on, like this pic I found (http://gurlgonegeek.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/il_570xn-236205462.jpg).

I think the face will look better once stitched. Right now it works but needs to be on seamlessly.
edit:
Could you make a cutesy Batman?
-
Yeah probably. I can look for some patterns online.
-
I say do that, that would look awesome. I love him. I'd absolutely love to have one on my desk. Pig too!
-
So no new work to show, but tonight we went to a little gathering for my uncles birthday. Brought my crochet stuff to do if I got bored, and also my completed stuff to show off. I showed the piggy to my aunt and cousin (hes like 10 years older than me)...they both thought it was from Angry Birds.
We are no longer related.

Finished my meatboy!

The yarn for the teeth was difficult to work with. Yarn needles do not easily pierce felt, and hiding the tails underneath was tricky. I thought just go around and around a bunch with some thread but that probably wouldn't look good either. So I ended up buying some embroidery floss and using that. Kinda wrapped it around itself on the back and letting the glue hold it all together. Seems pretty solid.

Too awesome, man.
-
hehe, thanks.
-
Oh yeah, that is awesome! hehe
Keep it up, man!

Can you make me this for christmas?

That is just amazing. Totally worth $125.
-
Well, I did find the pattern for it (http://www.etsy.com/listing/109883110/crochet-pattern-pdf-skyrim-inspired).

Nice! I sometimes wonder how you find the time for all this stuff.
-
Not sure if serious or trolling.

Which is weird because I feel like I waste a lot of time not doing anything. If I actually concentrated on this stuff I'd probably have some crazy output. Which is maybe something I should think about doing.
Hard part is a bunch of these free patterns (and even some paid ones) have little notes at the bottom that says they don't want you to sell the stuff you make. Which, to me, is bullshit. I'll gladly link to where I got the pattern but if I put in the time and money to produce something with a pattern then I can damn well sell it if I choose.

My wife thinks your work is 'awesome'. Can you take an order for something? :)
-
heh, well...what did she have in mind?

These went to the recent OWnet babies.

And Mabel approved. She gave it a headbop like a proper cat lady.

Aww. Awesome!
