PS3 sells out in Japan.

Sold out at launch. Thats to be expected, especially when you only have 80,000 units available. I mean, the DS has been out for ages and puts out those numbers on a weekly basis in Japan.

Are sony limiting their launch numbers this much becuase their going for a "world wide" release?

No, they've dropped back launch estimates a few times which would point to production troubles. You've got both Cell ships and Blu-Ray in there...new tech thats hard to make.
