Title: Check out the cast for the new Command & Conquer
Post by: angrykeebler on Saturday, March 03, 2007, 09:18:15 PM
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848263/

so in one PC game we have

A former CNN anchor
The girl from "House" (who I have a huge crush on btw)
The two hot women from "Battlestar Galactica" (No, not Starbuck cause she looks like a man)
One of the main characters of "Lost"
Michael Ironside

AND LANDO FUCKING CALRISSIAN

Most star-studded game of all time? I say yes!

oh and the demo is out. The game itself is just okay.

Pretty crazy.  Too bad the game doesn't interest me even in the least.

Heh. I actually played with the demo last night and came away fairly impressed. It's good ol' C&C, but I sorta don't think that's a bad thing.

Is this the one Kasavin is working on?

Yeah, but I doubt there was nothing much heh could do by the time he came in. Probably just came in to get lessions on how to tighten some bolts and whatnot.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that the game ran pretty well on my system too in my last post. I had a lot of settings on high, but the game ran at fully playable framerates even during some bigger battles. After coming off of Total Annihilation I was totally depressed with the state of my computer, but C&C3 restored some of my faith in the old bird.

By Total Annihilation I assume you mean Supreme Commander?

But yeah... I dunno'.  C&C had some great games, and I played a lot of them over the years, but the franchise just doesn't interest me anymore.  I thought Red Alert was amazing and would probably still have fun playing it, it's really just that I think the themes have gotten old and stupid.  The fiction was never really an afterthought, but it often felt like it probably should have been.

Oh yeah. Supreme Commander.

I still have a soft spot for whatever fiction is there. It's not great or anything, but I have fun with it.

C&C is a shitty franchise.  Complete mediocrity paired with horrible coding.  I bet Generals would run like crap even on my brand new system.

Damn.........still today, you'd think it'd run that bad, after it been out for that long....?

That's crummy...

I liked the first Red Alert.  That's about it.

Wow some like minded thoughts on C&C.

I really could never understand why the series was such a cult hit. It has crap loads of fans all over the world.

Well, don't get me wrong, I think the game was groundbreaking and amazing in its heyday.  I just don't really care about it *now*.  The first few games were totally great.  I just don't feel any need to play new ones.

You better never ever say that about the Elder Scrolls series. :P

... why would I?  I'm probably a bigger fan of those games than you are.

Again, why would I?  Has there ever been any evidence to suggest it?  The series is still great.  It hasn't stagnated.  It has great fiction, quality developers behind the wheel, and plenty of money at its disposal.  It's creative.  It's innovative.  There's nothing else at all like it that even pretends to try to do what it does.  None of that can be said of the current C&C franchise.  It's not as though I one day just decided to not like C&C for no good reason.

When did it all go downhill?
When EA took over???

I dunno'... when it stopped innovating.  Generals was a pretty average RTS, and the whole C&C thing has, as mentioned, never been about the fiction or universe, I don't think.  Some people might appreciate the campy lameness, but I'm not one of them.  The games were fucking fun in the beginning, though, and it was more cheesy in the way that you couldn't quite tell how serious it took itself.  And movies/acting/etc. were still fairly primitive back then in the first place.  Now it just seems like things have moved awfully far along and the franchise hasn't evolved at all.  Same games, same cheesy conflict.  I don't even know that it's wholly the fault of the games.  Maybe it's just that I've grown out of it.

I loved the original C&C.  After I played that to death, I discovered you could edit the data and come up with all sorts of fun cheats, like an army full of soldiers with rocket launchers.  I tried Generals, but by then, between C&C and Warcraft 1 & 2, I had pretty much gotten out of my RTS phase.

I think thats really it. I used to love Red Alert, and when I watched the live action cutscenes, I still knew they were cheesy, but I guess its like cartoons or the TMNT movies, its just horrid now. And without that universe appeal to draw you in, theres little else there but a straight forward RTS games with too many links to boring modern warfare which has been played way to many times.

It was the FMVs that motivated me to keep playing them, I thought they were funny if nothing else (they certianly weren't well acted!).
Then they dropped that in Generals so I was pretty disappointed and didn't give it much of a shot.
