LucasArts Titles Re-released?!
« on: Thursday, August 16, 2007, 05:15:32 PM »
Ok, a couple of days ago I walked into the Virgin  Megastore in the neighbouring mall and I was amazed at the sight of a an entire LucasArts Classics shelf right at the entrance of the store!

Apparently these fantastic classic games have been repackaged and re-released by LucasArts! I had no idea! I was just delighted!

I really have all the ones I want already anyway, so... great news for some folks, I guess, but doesn't matter too much to me.  Ideologically, of course, it's great!  I wonder if these were updated to run on XP, etc.?

Heh, I posted before all the images loaded. I saw the adventures and figured the other pics had em but...eh, bunch of star wars. And I already own those particular adventures. I just need the ones I dont have (The Dig, Loom...some others).

Especially now that I can play them on my DS...hehe.

Wow, X.

I see the 12+ PEGI rating there for some of the games for the UK Ratings Board....

...so, did the USA get re-releases of these, too?

We generally get UK/Euro releases over here. Right now the games shown above are selling at approx. $10-$15 USD each.

I'm not 100% certain on this, but I remember hearing something about LucasArts making a deal with ScummVM (a S.C.U.M.M. emulator) in order to make the games run in XP (and perhaps Vista).

Pay a visit to scummvm.org. Apparently there's a NintendoDS port of ScummVM!

Idol will attest to that.  I myself have already played through half of Sam and Max on my PSP using SCUMMVM.

Yeah, ScummVM rocks even on DS. I've currently got MI 1 and 2 on there. I should totally put Beneath a Steel Sky and Flight of the Amazon Queen on there since I havent actually gotten around to plaything them.

That's not bad at all!

I remember when Lucas used to sell the for Monkey Island Collection AND their website for like $30 or so!
I think it came in a tin box, too!

Didn't Sav buy one of those?!?!?

Oh, really????

That's a GREAT way to keep old classics alive and in demand!!! :)

ScummVM and DOSBox = two great tools for emulating OLD games.

I would love to get my hands on a copy of Sam and Max. I wonder if this deal is particular to your region.

It might be a Euro-Asia deal, but I'm not certain. I can't find anything about it on the official LucasArts site, although I did discover that LA are directly affiliated with Activision.

UK, then Australia, then they were released everywhere else except North America it seems.  They're available at Amazon.co.uk.

Bah

Tim Shafer releases a design document in PDF format for Grim Fandango

GOG should pick up Grim Fandango. That would so rock.

That would be cool if GOG or someone picked up some old Sierra or LucasArts classics, but I wouldn't be surprised if their parent companies are considering releasing their own online storefronts for downloadable content.  Especially LucasArts.  Their back catalog is huge and has lots of fond memories attached to it.

They've also been notoriously dickish about anyone even looking at their catalog even if they haven't touched it in years.
