Yeah, that one looked a bit spooky to me. Didn't get very good reviews, either.
I'm playing Dead Rising (yes, still), Kameo: Elements of Power, and Dead or Alive 4, all for Xbox 360. Who'd have thought? With the PC out of commission gaming-wise until I get off my lazy ass and fix this whole HDD thing, that's really all I've got that I care to play. I plan to pick up Okami at some point, and I really want to get my hands on Loco Roco as well, but those are future plans. For now I'm enjoying the three games I'm playing quite a lot, and I plan to review all three for the site. The Dead Rising review I just finished today.
I started playing Enchanted Arms and realized it was the worst and unintentionally most homoerotic game RPG ever made.
Hahaha, great review X.Hehe well I didn't feel too articulate at the time. The game is so bad it shocked my conscious mind. The game's interface is pretty buggy too. If you don't save (quicksave is the only manual saving option), you'll have to go back to the main menu and load an autosave or start the level over, and the autosaves are pretty far apart as well. I don't this game even deserves a worthwhile review.
Currently still playing Dungeon Siege 2.That was one annoying battle!
At the Final Battle w/ Valdis.
. . . Man it feels good to post something in this thread.
I seem to remember that getting some pretty awful reviews. I have no interest in it either way.
Getting Up is not too bad. I agree you definitely need a joypad to really enjoy it.It's annoying you can't even reconfigure the KB/mouse controls.
I remember playing a while back, but I eventually got bored.I ain't got bored....yet, hehe....
It is a quality game though.Agreed.
I need a PC game to play. Ideally I'd love a Ninja game, but they're friggin' imposible to find. I went out hunting for I-Ninja (by Namco), since I heard it was released on PC too, but it's nowhere to be found. And since I have no PS2 anymore, I'm limited to PC titles.
I've replayed MGS2 way too many times, but that's the kinda game I feel like playing. I need a stealth, action, platform, or general ass-kicking game.
Any suggestions?
MGS3?I wish, but it hasn't been released for PC. I doubt they'll bring this one to PC, but one can always hope.
Just played a bit of Arx. It's pretty awkward and stiff in terms of control. It also seems prone to crashing.Make sure you patch it up to the newest version -- b/c that kills many of the game's bugs.....out the box, it was basically "beta in a box...."
It has some pretty good elements, but because the graphics are dated the overall appeal is not impressive, especially with the permanent fog. It looks a lot like Heretic II. I'm sure I would have appreciated more had I played it in its day.Arx did look great, for its day....
Graphics aside, it just feels too awkward for me to continue playing. The interaction, the magic system, and the inventory just don't feel "right." This might be one of those games I'd rather watch than play.I liked Arx's hand-to-hand/melee combat. For its time, it was very good. Still holds up quite well, if you ask me. And the violence is sweet, w/ the "Fatalities" and all for final blows -- depending on where you swing and how powerful it is, you can sever body parts: torsos, legs, arms, and heads.
I'll have to be patient and wait for Dark Messiah!I am looking forward to it.
Now, I'll have to ensure that Ubisoft release a Trilogy pack for PC!I have Warrior Within. I am planning to probably get Sands of Time soon; my Best Buy nearby has that for $10, in a small jewel case.
Speaking of Oblivion, I just got back into it and this time I tried out the Mehrune's Razor plugin. It's a pretty sweet mod, and I just acquired Mehrune's Razor! Oddly enough I discovered the mesh for the dagger was already in the game, the plugin just uses it.. Weird..Interesting. I bet that Razor item was planned to be in the game, but just didn't make it for when they planned to put Oblivion out.
I just got Star Wars: KOTOR. Yeah, I know I'm behind.
Yo MyD, Uru is pretty sweet! I just played Uru: Ages Beyond Myst and it's literally "ages beyond myst." The mystery was great, the graphics were great, and now I'm kind of anxious about Uru Live!
Currently playing:Yeah Quake 4 was awesome, and 'that part' was pretty sweet ;D
--Quake 4: DVD Edition
--SW: KOTOR
I must say, I just got to the part in Quake 4....(click to show/hide)
Quake 4 SP rules. Nothing truly innovative, but it freakin' rocks.
Yeah Quake 4 was awesome, and 'that part' was pretty sweet ;DAwesome. :)
Right now, I am entranced in the world Faerûn.. NWN2 has sucked me in.
I got Splinter Cell Double Agent (early birthday present ;D), unfortunately my system can't run it because it absolutely requires Shader Model 3.0 and My Radeon X850 Pro (as powerful as it is) is only capable of SM 2.0. Since I'm sticking with ATi, and I'm not buying a new motherboard any time soon, my only option is the Radeon X1650 Pro AGP (Thank God! I won't have to switch to PCIe for a little longer!). Rumour has it ATi will be released an AGP version of the Radeon X1950 as well, it's expected to be released before the end of the year, so I might wait for it, but considering its price will be close to $300 I might just go for the X1650 (I found it for $175).

Yep, the reqs are pretty ridiculous, but the game is supposed to be some kind of technological marvel with its effects.Oh, that really sucks....Bleh!
I misread the reqs the first time and I assumed they had listed all the Radeon X series cards, but it's just the X1K series.. The really bitchy part? My X850 Pro is technically more powerful than all but the X1900 and X1950. It just lacks the interface to run 3.0 shaders.
Having the DVD sitting in front of me really tantalizes me.
Oh by the way, what's the biggest game you've ever had installed?Good question.....
SCDA is a 10.65GB install! Biggest game yet ;D

SCDA is a 10.65GB install! Biggest game yet ;D
I forgot to mention I picked up New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. Classic 2D side scrolling Mario. It seems rather on the short side, as I'm already at World 8. Though there are 2 worlds I haven't found the secret entrances to, and I didn't unlock a lot of the side levels so I might not be judging it properly. That's the ticket. Save the special locations for, uh, saves! I liked the game, although it was over too soon.
Only thing I don't like so far is the lack of save anywhere. This gets unlocked after you beat the game...but by then I don't really need it. You can only save after the little middle castles and the big castles. So if you get frustrated in between and shut off your system, you lose your progress. What I've found is there are side paths you unlock with the big coins you find, and after you spend the coins you get the option to save. So I have a bunch of those I can use to save my game.
I was playing NWN2, but I decided to hold off until the new patch is released. After having a lot of role-playing I was in the mood for some action so now I have F.E.A.R. Extraction Point and I reinstalled Quake 4.I dunno' what it is, but 2006 on the PC seems like the year of "Games That Need MORE Patches."
F.E.A.R. EP is not bad, though for some reason some areas perform horribly (like a slideshow) and I have to look at the floor or sky for the framerate to be tolerable. It was only in the outdoor areas, but the rest of it seems fine so far.
Quake 4's singleplayer campaign is pretty sweet so I felt like running through it again. This time I found GTX (http://www.xtreme-lab.net/gtx/), which enhances the graphics of Quake 4 by adding bloom shader, reflections on metal (marine armour and weapons, strogg, hovertank, walker, etc.), and casts any object's shadow with the flashlight. Pretty cool, gives Q4 a nice refined look. It's also available for Doom 3.Quake 4 rocks -- SP and MP.
Gotta agree with the Guild Wars comment by D. I'm playing Prophecies (already wanting the expansions) and the game is simply gorgeous and runs amazingly well. These guys deserve a medal.Amen to that.
I am still hooked on Oblivion.
On the PSP I've played a bit of Lumines, though am mostly hitting Virtua Tennis.
And FFXII I didn't finish, but I got probably the same ratio through that as I did most of the others I dropped recently. Same with Okami. It's uncanny, and it bugs the hell out of me.
Test Drive Unlimited, heavily since I got it. What can I say? Virtual Hawaii, even if only for creatures of the 4-wheel variety. Full escapism. Plenty of flaws, some infuriating, but still indispensable.
Y'know, I love to do old thread resurrections! :)
And D, the reason this thread was resurrected was that out of curiosity I was viewing the threads the anonymous guests were. One of them was this, and is a good thread!
EDIT - Also, why are you playing the Saturn port of SotN? Everyone says it's the most god-awful thing on the face of the earth. I can't even remember why, oddly enough, but there you have it.
I picked it up for my PC. I tried it for just a bit and it looks pretty decent.
Well that's cool. I didn't even know there was extra stuff there.
Yeah, they're not huge areas though. One of them just kinda ties two other areas together. Would it be worth the 66 bucks I paid to other people? Probably not. However, since SoTN is probably in my personal top 5 games of all time I relish every bit of extra game I can get. It's my original reasoning for even picking up a Saturn to begin with.
Well, I've had very little game time lately but when I do play I stick to Shivering Isles! I'm really enjoying it!
Actually I think he plays everything at once.
I think D needs to outsource a little. Seriously, dude. You play every game out there for like 2 hours then stop but leave it installed on your HDD for no apparent reason, and then you see every movie ever made and make threads about them. I think you seriously need some books in your life.
But who am I kidding? He won't listen to me. The printed page is lost on this generation.
Unless its a pick-a-page book I think the printed page would be too linear for D to handle.
...Though, I watch movies and they are often quite linear...
Hahahaha! D, that is the funniest thing I have ever read from you.
I think Pug needs a humor transplant, stat.
Definitely let us know. I was pretty curious about that one. For some reason I thought it got canned.Yeah I thought that too when Eidos announced that they dropped "Diabolique," but it seems they just dropped the title and renamed the project.
MysterDeffectsNF.Oh yeah!!!
So... now I'm playing through MGS on my PSP and MGS2 on my PS2. I can't believe how fucking good MGS2 still looks. There are current gen games that don't look this good. And I really don't know what it was that caused me to kind of go sour on the stealth thing and the MGS games, because I'm having a blast this time around. Maybe it's just the fact that it's been about 5 years since I've played one. In any case, I'm very happy to get reacquainted with the franchise. It seems I was really missing out after all. I always wanted to love them because I was such a gigantic fan of the NES games when I was a kid, and I guess it just took some time away to rekindle the romance.Nice. Those are two of the best games I've ever played. MGS2 still looks great even on PC!

I'm into the third act of Call of Duty 2 on the 360.I still been meaning to play that on my PC, since I got it installed and all.
I just finished Tomb Raider Anniversary! That was a fun ride. It definitely honours the original and expands on it. I loved it.
Now that it's done I need some suggestions for the next game to play :D Any PC recommendations?
I just started Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door last night. I played for about two hours. So far, I hate it. I hope it gets more challenging and more complex real fast.
If you haven't played STALKER, I think it's probably one of the best FPS's this year, so far...I played STALKER, and it just didn't draw me in at all.. I got bored of it pretty quickly.. I played about 10-12 hours and I couldn't enjoy it. I was hoping it would be as open as a game like Oblivion, but it just felt so restricted; especially with all the tedious running around.
And it's open-ended, too!

I was hoping it would be as open as a game like Oblivion, but it just felt so restricted; especially with all the tedious running around.I loved STALKER. It's not an RPG, so it ain't gonna be as open as say Oblivion. For an FPS, yeah -- it's much LESS linear than most FPS games.
I don't know if it was due to the game's atmosphere but I always felt uncomfortable and dulled out. Maybe it's the lack of sunshine in the game world and the overall greyness of the environments. Now, see -- this is what I loved about the game. The bleak, dark atmosphere from the fallout in Chernobyl. I loved every second of it.
Contemplating reinstalling FEAR, but for some reason it always messes up my DX9 installation. So now I'm considering going through Condemned: Criminal Origins again, since I haven't finished it.Condemned is pretty good. Not long, but still damn good. Hard to get sick of bludgeoning people w/ melee weapons upside their skull!
I started playing Okami today and wow! It's a better Zelda than Zelda itself! I love it.
I got the El Matador demo, but it was so full of bugs and it wouldn't start properly. However I found El Matador on the torrents, and I gave it a shot. Wow, that game sucks. It's basically Max Payne without quality + cheesy 80's movie drug story + crap graphics + terrible gameplay. Other than that it's pretty much a cheap rip-off of Max Payne. It really feels incomplete too.
Back to playing Oblivion! The game is truly beautiful when it's set to Ultra High quality and running at blazing fps!
Now I only wish that Bethesda will make a DX10 update to pusb the game's looks even further. I'm not complaining, just some wishful thinking.
Still one of my favourite games.
Oblivion's a masterpiece.Yeah man, SI is a great expansion. For a little while you're in a whole new world in Oblivion! In my case I adapted to the madness of the Shivering Isles, and when I went back to Cyrodiil there was a bit of a culture shock! I had to re-adapt myself to the "normal" world.
I do need to finish Shivering Isles, myself -- especially since they fixed that nasty "Form" bug.
I am playing games. Yes.
I started playing Okami today and wow! It's a better Zelda than Zelda itself! I love it.
Jeanne d'Arc, Vagrant Story, Dead Head Fred, Eternal Sonata, and like 5 others I was in the process of playing and have forgotten about by now.
... you finished Path of Neo?
Haha I think MyD is the only one with the patience and dedication to go through Path of Neo Tongue Lord knows I tried! The action in the game was enough to keep me going. I liked all the powering up after finishing a level and gaining new powers -- it kept the combat fresh. Combat was actually good and much improved over ETM.
After finishing that, I wanted more FPS action so I reinstalled Doom 3 and started playing it again for the 3rd time. Damn this game for being so atmospheric and awesome yet so damn tense... I really hope I have the balls to finish it this time.I liked Doom 3, but some of the in-between middle levels were blah to me.
Looking for something else to play, but I have no idea what exactly I want. Hmmm. If I had my new system I've got a bunch of things to play. But I dont, so I'm looking at my back catalog. Thinking of NWN1, but for some reason I've been unable to truely get into that game.If you're doing the SP stuff, skip NWN: OC -- its greatness comes and goes like the wind. Namely, I liked Chapters 1 and 4. Other two chapters had their moments, but seem so rushed and a major lack of choice in finishing quests. At least if you're not giving much choice in doing quests, give us a good amount of side quests to do to keep us going!
Arg, I want Mass Effect really bad. But I think I'm going to get FFXII: Revenant Wings tomorrow instead.
Heh, I haven't gotten to him yet, but I'm kinda' looking forward to it. That'll probably be a few months from now, depending. I've taken so long with the game who knows when I'll ever beat it. Part of me doesn't want it to end.
Kinda missed this thread :)Interesting....
I am currently playing:
The Experiment (a.k.a. 112 Experience), a unique puzzle/mystery game where you look into the game through security cameras and try to help a woman geth through obstacles and uncover clues.
GRAW2, which more interesting than the original GRAW, has all the things the fans have been asking for (more weapon choices, better HUD, etc.) but feels "cheap." It seems like they really payed attention to the fans but went with faster, second-rate graphics and interface design.I ain't finished GRAW1, but recently got GRAW2 cheap from Gogamer. :)
Still playing Oblivion too, of course!I need to finish Shivering Isles...
Started FEAR: Perseus Mandate today. This one, so far, seems to have less story than Extraction.... *Scratches head*Not to mention worse graphics. Somehow Perseus Mandate looks horrible. They've removed specular lighting for some odd reason.
And less of those spooky moments FEAR games usually has....
*scratches head some more*
I am in the middle of Bioshock. I love the damn game. Much of the internet backlash is undeserved.Internet backlash?? Really? I thought the world unanimously loved Bioshock!
But wasn't Yahtzee's video kinda praising Bioshock? And as Yahtzee said he "learned from his Psychonauts review" that people don't react very well to very positive reviews, at least to his reviews being positive :PYes, Yahtze did state at the beginning that Bioshock was one of the best games of the year, despite its similar-ness to SS2 -- and then went on to complain about the game (like he always does w/ every game; even games he loves he does this with).
I can understand if someone takes issue to a game due to technical problems, but if it's over the art style it's not really an argument; you either like it or you don't. For example, I really liked the art style of Okami but my brother didn't, yet we both agreed that it is a technically superb game.I thought a lot of Bioshock's issues w/ people was not the game itself, but namely the damn Securom Internet crap that came w/ a SP-Only product w/ a limited number of installs allowed.
Babies throwing tantrums over dashed fairy tales
I recall reading a crapload of "hate" for R6 Vegas on the R6 forums.. While such online rage was well deserving of Lockdown, Ubisoft actually did a decent job with Vegas.
Sadly, that isn't so. I'm playing online with my PS3. PS3 online play is free and the thing supports wireless connectivity out of the box. Microsoft wants me to pay a monthly fee for multiplayer and drop a hundred bucks on a wireless thing. I'm realizing now that while the PS3 was always more expensive, to make my 360 do everything I want it to do, I'd have to actually pay considerably more than the PS3's original price to get it there since I was stupid and bought a core system. Now, I could get a wire to hookup to my router for the 360, but that won't do me any good once the system gets moved to the living room with the big TV. So... yeah. No 360 online for Que.
I got my first kiss down here when I was 15. Some hooker named Candy. She crossed her legs, an' broke my sunglasses. Good times . . .
Yeah, hard is definitely tougher. I play most of these games on hard first time through now, and you're right, the first couple areas before you get your powers are just *hard*. It gets a lot better once you've got your pal, though, so no worries. It's definitely doable, barring a couple of potentially frustrating spots. But with some foreknowledge of what's going on you should be fine.
Forgot this thread was around..
SWAT 4 mainly, with a little bit of STALKER thrown in.
OK. Then explain to me how I can survive Shrote's ambush in the church for more than 20 seconds. Actually, my record I think is longer than that, maybe 30 seconds. I've died about 50 times, and I'm taking a death break.
Edit: That's it. Unless someone tells me something I don't know, I officially give up. This stage is beyond my abilities on Hard. 100 attempts is good enough to convince me.
Well, I figured I needed to keep the pillars between me and the shooters as best as possible. Problem is that it never seems to be good enough. Many of the deaths were nearly instant. I got to hear "Estacado" from Shrote, and then curtains. I tried summoning darklings as often as possible, and I tried the black hole. The problem with the black hole is that it leaves you without a shield. I can't see everything that's shooting at me. I get blindsided every time. The pistols aren't fast enough, and the Uzis have too much muzzle flash. (Can't see past it.) The save point has me whip out the pistols, and just trying to select anything past those 2 options gets me dead. Sheesh. I'm all for challenge, but not flat-out unfairness.
I got SWAT 4 and its Expansion.
Just ain't got around to it.
So, how do you like the game???
Currently still playing Culpa Innata.
Probably the best pure adventure game I've played since TLJ and Shadow of Destiny.
There's a few annoying tedious pixel hunt puzzles (two are coming to mind), but it don't get much better than this for pure adventures in this day and era.
I'm sorry, but that's one of the ugliest games I've ever seen, and I'm not even talking just technical graphics, either. That thing is fucking ugly. All I can figure is that they hired a blind guy as art director. I had nightmares just from looking at the screens for 10 minutes. The graphics are not the draw of the game by any means, Que. Hence the very low system requirements -- especially by today's standards.
I googled the screenies, and remembered reading about the game somewhat. PCG's Andy Mahood gave it a cautiously positive review, saying there was a decent story buried somewhere in there. The premise seemed interesting as well. Your character was a citizen of a futuristic Utopian society that was part of a one world government; basically a union of all the first world countries. I think your character was sent to a third world Eastern European country, to conduct an investigation into a murder of a diplomat or something.Mr. Bogdanov (the guy who is killed) is not a diplomat, no. He is a citizen/member of the World Union, but is actually killed over in one of The Rogue States that is NOT a part of this World Union (he's killed over in Odessa, Russia). That is why you're investigating; he's one of your own that was killed not on their own soil and the World Union wants this case solved. As Phoenix Wallis (of The World Union), you basically conduct interviews galore throughout most of the length of the game to find out the why and the who.
But Andy Mahood did express his disappointment with the visuals, saying that he was very disappointed considering visuals were the strength of the genre.I definitely think they're majorly dated. Again, I think this is easily the weakest part of the game, myself. the rest of the game is great, despite the two pixel hunt puzzles.
I am surprised I remember so much. I guess I was wanting to play the game, seeing as how I love Adventure. I think they mentioned the game was developed by some Turkish team, which might explain the bland visuals. I suppose they didn't have the budget to hire some quality artists.Yes, a Turkish team put together the game.
If by "fixes" you mean "alters to suit personal preference", then yes.
The Unofficial Oblivion Patches (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/author.php?id=175121) fix a lot of stuff.I liked the game's look and atmosphere. The atmosphere really made the game, if you ask me.
I'm trying STALKER again. The patch fixed a lot of the bugs. I'm finding it very difficult to like this game though. I'm not a fan of the theme or many of the visuals. I still find the interface is unappealing too. It's just a very ugly game to me (I'm not talking about texture quality). Maybe that's the look they were going for. Sorry, I had to get the visuals out of the way before I get down to the mechanics.
The gameplay is just not working for me either. Sometimes it's punishing and other times it's too easy. Then there are times when it is completely confusing. The most annoying thing so far is the ridiculous amount of traveling I have to put in.STALKER: Clear Sky will have a quick travelling system like Oblivion or Silverfall.
I have yet to find a weapon I like. So far all the weapons are crap and I end up having to use the weapon with the most available amount of ammo (since ammo is so scarce too). What I do like is that a headshot is an instant kill; with that in mind seven 9mm rounds in a guy's leg should at least disable him if not kill him.Ammo is NOT scarce if you kill anything that walks.
I don't really get a feel for any of the factions. The NPC's are just dry, generic folks. The story (whatever there is of one) is just so bland.. It's very hard to care. I'm just finding it very tedious to play this game. Are you following all of the "Strelok" quests?
On a positive note, I'm glad I found a game I don't enjoy just because I don't like it, rather than a game-breaking bug or crappy design (although the design in STALKER is disputable).I loved STALKER, myself. I wish there more open-ended world shooters w/ non-linear gameplay, myself.
Well when its something the majority want then its more of a fix. :P
I liked the game's look and atmosphere. The atmosphere really made the game, if you ask me.You're right about the ammo if you've got the right weapon. The ammo isn't that big of a deal for me, unless I'm using a specific weapon like the L82 Enfield (not sure what it's actually called in STALKER but that's what it looks like).
About the Inventory Interface, I thought it was fine, myself.
It wasn't great, but it did serve its purpose just fine.
STALKER: Clear Sky will have a quick travelling system like Oblivion or Silverfall.
Where once you visit the place once, all you'll need to do next time is click on the location map to get there instantly, regardless of where you are on the would map.
Ammo is NOT scarce if you kill anything that walks.
B/c I took on this style of playing when playing STALKER, I wound up often having too many weapons and too much ammo often -- so I often had to drop stuff from my Inventory b/c my character would weigh too much and could've move.
I often wound up selling lots of ammo and weapons, too -- resulting in having loads of money, even after buying things.
GREEDY ENDINGAre you following all of the "Strelok" quests?(click to show/hide)
Those "Strelok" quests are the best story-based stuff in the game. Especially when you find out who Strelok is, actually. Though, I did like the plot and premise of it a lot; there's not too much depth to the actual "Strelok" story, when compared to games like Deus Ex, The Witcher or Planescape: Torment.
I hope Clear Sky has more storytelling depth, myself.
I loved STALKER, myself. I wish there more open-ended world shooters w/ non-linear gameplay, myself.
Then the majority want you to ditch OOO and reinstall. There's your fix.
Right now I'm having a hard time distinguishing if STALKER is more tactical or arcade. It feels like the game is undecided.
Sorry for the double post, but I've also been messing around a bit with n64 games with high resolution textures. Specifically Paper Mario, and the difference is huge.Wow that is a drastic change! I should get back into N64 emulation.

You're right about the ammo if you've got the right weapon. The ammo isn't that big of a deal for me, unless I'm using a specific weapon like the L82 Enfield (not sure what it's actually called in STALKER but that's what it looks like). What STALKER could've done is what many RPG's do for quests such as Silverfall, DS2, -- split them up on your Journal/PDA between "Main Quests" and "Optional Quests."
STALKER is just too open, too much stuff goes on and I get lost too easily. By contrast in Oblivion it's easy to keep your bearings and track down your quests. And Crysis is technically quite linear, but the gameplay is open.
The game gives me little motivation to go on. I'm following the Strelok mission but they're the ones that are getting really tedious, making run to the side of the world and shit.STALKER Spoilers -- Who Is Strelok?(click to show/hide)
Right now I'm having a hard time distinguishing if STALKER is more tactical or arcade. It feels like the game is undecided.Cross of both.
Star Wars: KOTOR 2 - The Sith Lords (PC)
Are you playing the vanilla version or have you used some mods/community patches?
Ok, I've taken the plunge and uninstalled Oblivion in order to prevent myself from resorting to it so much. Plus it'll give me a chance to miss it. I also reinstalled Gothic 3. The community patch really helps!Yeah, the patch does help A LOT.
I've got this urge to replay some older titles again. I just installed Theme Hospital, but I had to get the XP fix for it. I haven't played this game since the days of DOS (they were actually the days of Win95 but my computer was so fawked at the time I only had DOS up and running).Wow, I remember that one. Never played it, though.
I'm also playing Crysis on the hardest difficulty. Ironically it's easier to kill soldiers for some reason.Probably b/c you're pretty good at the game? :P
I've reinstalled Oblivion. Fawk, I'm addicted to it. I keep coming back to it.
I'm anticipating the upcoming Euro release of Mass Effect.
How was the later bit of the game? Was it noticeably rushed? That's pretty much what's been keeping me from playing it.
I'm still playing Persona 3: FES like I was last time I posted. I've got about 75 hours put into it so far and I'm guessing I'm close to being done with the non FES part of the story. I took a break on Persona 3 last month when Metal Gear Solid 4 came out though. Haven't been playing much else besides those games though.
What month are you in? How's the Persona fusing aspect treating you?
She's also going through Okami on PS2. We thought about picking up the Wii version, but as soon as I heard you have to use motion controls to actually do *normal* attacks and not just the *brush* stuff, I said forget it. That's just stupid. It should be button presses for regular attacks, then the wand for drawing stuff. I don't want to fling the thing around every time I just want to swing my sword.
I'm in early November after I killed the Hanged Man shadow and fought the two Strega guys. Also, I've pretty much got the hang of all the stuff in the game at this point, I've maxed out several social links and fused some pretty powerful Personas because of it. I have several Personas that are higher level than me because I've made them after I maxed out a social link, I have a lvl 59 Thor persona and I'm only lvl 54-55 I think. My compendium is at like 58%.
So I just picked up the limited edition of Quake Wars, and, finally, Portal. Hooray! I guess that'll help flesh out my time with CivRev and Rune Factory on my DS. Plus I hope to finish up Metroid Prime 3 this weekend, if all goes as planned.
I LOVE GAMES. Even when your life is total crap, they're always there for you. Aw.
I tried it not *too* long after it came out, and I really didn't see what the big deal was. But a podcast brainwashed me today, and I wanted to play something in a single sitting, so I figured what the hell. My biggest complaint is that everything is really easy, and for a puzzle game to require almost no thought... that's kind of stupid. And apparently I'm not the only one who feels that way, but I guess most people hate thinking. Oh well.Yeah, Portal was a good, fun game, but it's not the game people were making it out to be.
In other news, Quake Wars is fucking awesome.Do you just play against bots? Or do you play online? If I can ever figure out why my rig is dropping packets like a banshee (yes, banshees are renown for dropping packets), I wouldn't mind jumping in a game with you. I think my wireless card is just shot. I've noticed the signal strength seems to be going down over time, and I'm like fifteen feet from the wireless router. Something similar happened when my last wireless card was going.
Edit: Anyways, I just recently finished Devil May Cry 4, which was awesome but lacked the unlockables to make it worth playing through a second time back to back. I'm now kind of at a loss. I just reinstalled Bioshock, but I'm not really feeling it and Tomb Raider: Anniversary isn't something I'm in the mood for all the time. DoD on Steam is pretty sweet though and I think I'll pick up God of War II if it's cheap by now. That's precisely the time I go back and play some classics. I've played Deus Ex, X-COM: UFO Defense, and Starcraft all within the last year for significant amounts of time. In fact, I'm about to play the last mission of the Zerg campaign.
Anyone ever tell you you're overstimulated?
Final Fantasy 4 - I don't really like this game, the battle system is different from a traditional RPG and I find it jarring. However, this is the best looking and sounding game on the DS.
Gourmet Chef - Kind of like Cooking Mama, but this game focuses making the meals instead of the little mini games you have to do in Cooking Mama while cooking. Sleeper hit, go check it out.
I want to pick up FF4, the only thing that worries me is that they used voiceovers with it which I thought was unnecessary.
<Que|warquakes> Okay seriously, Quake Wars is the fucking best team FPS ever.
<idolminds> heh
<Que|warquakes> I'm not even kidding. I don't know that it really is, of course, but it's obviously the one that fits me best.
<idolminds> thats cool
<Que|warquakes> I love the feel of it, the look of it, the maps, the objectives, the sound design... wee!
<idolminds> I need to get the update with the tutorials. Pre-patch I dont see any tuts, and I feel very lost
<Que|warquakes> It's just fun, and the whole gaining experience and bonuses thing works really well, especially if you're playing a campaign (three related maps in a row). It really gives you that "let's do just that much better next time!" thing, since you actually earn rank as you go.
<Que|warquakes> So it's like, next time I'll make First Lieutenant!
<idolminds> heh
<Que|warquakes> And you get extra stuff like more grenades or health, faster sprinting speed, that sort of thing. Really gives you incentive to get shit done.
<Que|warquakes> Engineers are often boring, but they're a blast in this game.
<Que|warquakes> And they balance the necessity of each class really well, so you always feel necessary and like you're getting rewards for pulling your weight. And especially in a campaign it trades the most-needed class between maps well, so while your must-complete objectives may be for an engineer one map, the next it may be that a soldier is who has to be the hero
<Que|warquakes> Really fucking good game. I'm really surprised that this didn't get a more excited reception, and I'm now very sorry I didn't pick it up day one.
<Que|warquakes> Though yes, I'd be lost without the tutorials. They're definitely really helpful.
In regards to Quake Wars and UT3 -- I really don't know how the hell can anyone go wrong w/ either of those MP-based games. They both are pretty damn good.
The critics just seem conflicted. Some call the mechanics dated, some say it's brimming with new ideas; some say the gameplay is tight and balanced, others claim there's spawn camping; some say the maps are superlative examples of grace and balance, some say the maps are a little imbalanced or out of whack; some say the game "welcomes newcomers", others say it has a "fairly harsh learning curve for newcomers".I find that hilarious because spawn camping is by far the worst in the Battlefield series. There's no spawn invulnerability, so when you spawn, you get capped by someone that's standing behind you, or worse, an attack helicopter hovering low behind the spawn that just unleashes rockets anytime a group spawns there.
Playing Haunting Ground (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/demento/index.html?tag=result;title;0). I really like this game. In fact, I think I'll make a thread on it.
I've been on an emulation retro kick lately, and that led me to finally track down everything I need to play Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (http://castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/Games/rondo.html), the one remaining classic Castlevania game I've never played. SOTN is the direct sequel to this, and I now know where it got its inspiration. But man, this sucker is HARD! Thank God for save states.

The emulator of choice for the TurboGrafx-16 is Magic Engine (http://www.magicengine.com/uk_index.php?sessid=rUxrlwNp5f5EDAvEMBzlQw3RiDGQ). It's technically not free, but neither is the game, which can fetch up to $100 last I heard. I didn't spend any money. *Waits for shock to die down*
ME does a seemingly perfect job with everything, including the Super-CD attachment. I'm very impressed. I had version 0.96 from years ago, but the newest versions far surpass it. You can find version 1.0.0 PR 10.1 elsewhere. That seems to be the most stable version prior to the current 1.1.3.
I been trying GOW PC over Windows Live -- but unfortunately, seems that nobody on the PC is really playing this thing on the PC. Everybody must be still playing it on their 360.I find very few servers too. I've noticed it's more common to find coop than versus servers.
I did the most generic search for servers I could on GoW PC, to try and get ANY kind of game to try on the MP side. There's barely any servers of people playing this -- like, there was like 4 to 5 servers up when I tried this, yesterday night. And, all the servers were doing WarZone mode, too!
Yet, boot up say an old game like Quake 3 (though, it is a MP classic) -- and there's tons of servers going on w/ tons of different game modes happening (CTF, Duel, DM, Etc).
I find very few servers too. I've noticed it's more common to find coop than versus servers.I wouldn't mind playing against X360'ers -- or with them, in CoOp.
This is one game that I think should have been cross-platform.
At least the coop side of it. It's not like there's any custom content to interfere with the console players either.I dunno -- but the game did come with an Editor/SDK.
I dunno -- but the game did come with an Editor/SDK.
Are there any GoW PC mods out there really?
Final Fantasy XI Boss Fight Lasts 18 Hours
We've all encountered lengthy RPG boss fights that lasted for more than an hour or two, but an 18 hours long MMORPG boss fight might be a little too much.
The fight took place in Final Fantasy XI, where "Beyond The Limitation" guild fought a new boss, Pandemonium Warden, who changed into 20 different forms through 18 fighting hours before the band finally gave up.
"People were passing out and getting physically ill. We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible new story about how videogames ruin people's lives", said one of the guild members called Sylphet. "None of us doubt that Pandemonium Warden can be killed. We just call into question exactly what the development team thinks is reasonable from human beings."
Keep in mind that those 18 hours weren't enough to finish the fight. Beyond The Limitation guild members believe that at least another 3 to 5 hours are needed to kill Pandemonium Warden.
Um, are some levels of the original Painkiller only playable on some difficulties? Because after beating Chapter 1, I went straight into Chapter 2, Episode 2...which seems weird. The spot for Ep. 1 is there but it says I can't access it and I'm on the default difficulty setting.
I haven't touched Painkiller in, like, forever and never tried Overdose. I just finished playing through Chrono Cross on ePSXe with a nice shader effect going. I totally forgot about the whacked ass real life ending sequence, but think I have a better grasp of the overall story arc than I did the first time I played it eight years ago.
Haha, both. :P
Took a break from Disgaea 2 to play Silent Hill: Homecoming, both are great games so far.
I am spending more time talking about games than playing them.
Usually when I take a break from a game, here I am -- on the boards.I need breaks from work!
I need breaks from games, sometimes. :P
I need breaks from work!
My current endeavor: The Witcher EE!

I just have other problems. :P
Yeah, so how you liking it so far?Pretty good! I'm going through the Side Effects adventure right now. Really enjoying the the atmosphere. The first notable change is the inventory; it's not perfect but it's a lot better than before. The only other differences I've spotted so far are the ehnaced shaders, slightly higher resolution textures, and a few subtle character animations.

I understand some of the issues a few people had with the voice acting, and it's not such an issue for me because while 2 or 3 voices are irritating (or just bad acting) the majority of the voices are great. I think the fact that everything is voiced (more diversely than Oblivion I might add) should count as a merit to the overall work.I agree.
So far so good, I'll fill you in on how I'm experiencing it :)Awesome! :)
The load times are ridiculous in Pure!
-Pure. Some of the worst PC load times ever. No lie. Like, I actually went and took a shower and came back and the load screen was still there....for the fucking title screen.
haha I've never heard of Pure, but now want to try it as well so that I too can bitch. It's actually a lot of fun. It's first ATV racing game I've enjoyed so far. If you have the option go for the console version. The PC controls are a bitch even if you have a controller.
Dead Space? No, I meant Pure. Although I've heard the same of Dead Space.
MyD?
Thanks for the update.
Just finished Gears 2. Great game. Much better paced than the first. Suffers from "Empire Strikes Back" syndrome. Meaning tons of loose ends and no real conclusion at all. Basically a long advertisement for Gears 3. I was going to buy 3 anyway, why not throw a fucking bone or two my way?
You do realize LotR movies were based on books right D?
That seals my decision to avoid Gears 2, then. I was really disappointed with how they handled the plot and setting in the first one, with tons of potential that just wasn't realized. If they didn't do anything different with 2, I really don't need it. I've shot enough aliens in my life, and after all, I could go back and play the first game again for free.
So, I just finished God of War II. When the fuck is the next one coming out? I mean, I think that's another game I should buy a PS3 for. Damn.My brother and I are waiting on fire for it! The official announcement at the last E3 said that it would be released "beyond this holiday season." Estimates suggest early to mid 2009.
You do realize LotR movies were based on books right D?
I could certainly be persuaded to take a look. I was curious about it but didn't realize it was going to be free. It's still in Beta but it looks pretty stable and established.
In regards to GTA: San Andreas...
Catalina spoilers...(click to show/hide)
Kinda missed this thread :)
I am currently playing:
The Experiment (a.k.a. 112 Experience), a unique puzzle/mystery game where you look into the game through security cameras and try to help a woman geth through obstacles and uncover clues.
Hey, how was that game, after all was said and done?I reached a point where I was stuck and had no idea what to do. Eventually I just gave up.. that and when I formatted I forgot to backup my save file.
Was it any good?
Worthwhile?
You think it's worth $4 plus shipping from Gogamer? (http://www.gogamer.com/The-Experiment-for-PC-All-PC-Games_stcVVproductId20515187VVcatId444774VVviewprod.htm)
Damn, that's actually tempting. I wanted to try that one out.
EDIT - All right. I snagged that and The Movies. Why not? Not bad for under ten bucks.
Stumped? Do tell.I'm running around the tomb of Raithwall and I've realized that my characters are too low level. Puny mortals. I very narrowly defeated one of the demon gate crushers, had to use as many Quickenings as I could muster. Vaan is my highest lvl char at 18, everyone else is between 12 and 17. I came across these strange ghosts that can kill any one of my characters with a single hit, so I'm running around trying to grind and gradually lvl up. I think I'm gonna have to backtrack out in the desert. I'm just at a point where I can't move forward (yet).
I honestly don't know what they do. Probably just walk around and enjoy whatever show they're at, occasionally posing for pictures.
There's only one cosplay I ever really and truly liked, and that was the Naija (Aquaria) cosplay this one chick did. It was actually pretty cool.
Hehe, remember this (http://kotaku.com/5103736/how-to-design-characters-the-square+enix-way)?
Hahaha! The problem is when women start wanting men that look like that. I'd need a nair bubble bath and estrogen shots.Haha God! I'm a feral beast compared to those androgens!
I decided to give Neverwinter Nights another go since I really hated it the two times I tried it before, but now I'm actually into D&D itself, so thought maybe it would make a difference.
Surprisingly, it has. Not a lot, but a little, and there's something different about the game that doesn't feel like anything else I've played in a while. It's more... modular than a lot of games, and more obviously based on D&D where even some stuff like Baldur's Gate didn't throw it in your face quite as much. Or at least it seems like that. I don't know. Anyway, it's interesting. Not perfect, and whenever I run up against something that's particularly difficult I get the urge to quit... but I've stuck with it enough that I think I could play a ways into it, see what happens.
The only downside is I forgot how boring it is to play a cleric in pre-4E D&D. Lots of spells, hit like a girl. The monk guy following me does like 3 times the damage and doesn't miss as often. Damn!
I just finished Half-Life 2 two nights ago, Portal last night, and Episode 1 tonight. HL2 Ep 2 is next.Dude, all those games you mentioned, I think, are timeless.
I'm trying to push through some old games (FPS specifically) that I'm ashamed of not finishing, or just not playing at all. After the Orange Box I'll do Bioshock.
Just finished HL2 Episode 2. Damn, now I want more. With the way Ep2 ended, I think we all want Ep 3...like NOW.
I played the demo for that a while back. It was pretty neat.Agreed 100%.
Recently finished Bulletstorm. Really fun game, it takes a little bit for it to get going but once it starts ramping up, it gets epic fast. Plus the dialogue stuff isn't really stupid as you think it is and ends up being quite funny at times, especially the main antagonist. Really hope another one gets made.Bulletstorm's awesome - I agree w/ you 100%.
Justin Bieber: God sent me to make some music.
Hans Zimmer: No I didn't
Just beat Uncharted 2.
How'd you like it?
Is it as awesome as many gamers and reviewers make it out to be?
I liked it. Same sort of complaints I had about the first, mostly me wanting more exploring and less mass slaughter. I played on the very easy difficulty and still killed over 600 dudes. How many people does that bad guy employ? Its funny because the game itself even references this.
I would recommend it to anyone, though. If you own a PS3 then you should play Uncharted.
Why did you play it on very easy?Of the things I like about Uncharted, the combat ranks fairly low. Its not bad but I don't like bullet sponges and waves of enemies. Restarting an area because I get killed is frustrating (even on ve it still happened if I was careless), and what I play Uncharted for is to explore the new areas and to see the story unfold. Those things don't change between difficulty levels.
It's rare but I'll play a game on easy if I'm only interested in the story. I've a come a cross a few games with crap gameplay (or gameplay that's just not for me) but with a great story right behind that hurdle.
I generally like to play on Normal difficulty "play the game the way it was meant to be played" but I've noticed that in stealth-oriented games I usually start on the hardest difficulty just to make it more interesting. In DXHR, I've noticed almost no difference between Normal and Hard just because I never got spotted by enemies to begin with; kept getting the "Ghost" award at the end of each mission ;D
Same with Splinter Cell games. I think with Stealth games I operate on a higher plane that no matter what difficulty I will essentially get the same experience.
Just finished Bully: Scholarship Edition [PC].
Yeah, I know - I finally got this game running this past weekend. And of all PC's, ran fine on my new rig, not my older rig [which is the PC I tried to run it on numerous times, back in that PC's hey-day]. Been unable to put it down since I began it and just finished it.
How does this compare to other rockstar games?Put GTA gameplay and structure [of doing main missions and side-quests] and throw it instead into a high-school and a big town surrounding it.

That caught my eye because it was at the top of the page. It also pretty much describes my feelings about Red Dead Redemption, which I've been playing heavily. I love exploring and roaming the world. The combat is well implemented, but losing progress because of dying is unacceptable to me anymore. Duels are a serious pain in the ass, and I will never accept one unless I just saved the game. I'm also still heavily into Borderlands, particularly farming for new and rare weapons. Rounding out the package is Forza 4, which is superlative on the track (and mediocre in the menus). Very addictive once I get driving, trying to perfect my performance and tuning on particular cars and tracks.
It does. Considering past Rockstar titles, the save system is as generous as its ever been. Compared to other games it's flat out terrible though. There really should be no reason why I shouldn't be able to just press 'start' and hit 'save' in this game. If you don't want me saving in the middle of a mission, that's fine. but if I'm just traversing the overworld let me save my game. Can't argue w/ that one bit.
Awesome! Still one of my all-time favorite games. I think I finished it twice, and I could easily go through it again. It holds up pretty well today, and there's a lot to discover if you really get into it. Plus it's a cool little story and a fantastic world. After all this time I still recommend the hell out of it.
I picked up GTA4 Complete the other day and have been diving into it. Pretty fun, but like in real life sometimes you just have to leave your phone off.
So I sorta burnt out on GTA4 rather quickly, haven't played in a few weeks now. Its fun but the repetition gets on my nerves.
10 Get mission
20 drive across town
30 kill some dudes
40 run from cops
50 if fail at any point, then GOTO 20
60 GOTO 10
I played through both Assassins Creed 2 and Brotherhood back to back. Really enjoyed it, but its time to take a break from them. Might try for the AC2 platinum trophy at some point since it seems doable. ACB platinum requires me to get multiplayer trophies so basically its impossible. These games are a big step up from AC1. A lot less repetitive and the missions are interesting. ACB added an interesting mechanic where you are given a sub goal for each mission, usually some special way to complete it such as using a particular weapon to kill the target, or not killing anyone but the target. Makes them a little more interesting and gives a reason to replay missions, but some of them seem hard as balls so again its something Im probably not going to go back to get 100% on.
Next up for PS3 play is going to be Arkham Asylum and then Arkham City. PC I'm digging into Basion and all the games in the Royale and Humble bundles, starting with the Blackwell Trilogy.
What I never got used to was the utter cliche of every written word and concept. I lasted until I met the elves then realized I'd played the game 12,000 times before. A shame, too, because I actually found the combat pretty awesome. It took a bit to get going, but when it started to open up the combat system was a lot of fun.
Driver SF is a blast. I've been away for it for a while, though, I hit a slow spot where I had done most of the exploring and leveling up I could, and I wasn't finding an obvious way to progress.I agree -- Driver: SF is a lot of fun. The gameplay with the Shift mechanic is just awesome.
Same here. I'm stuck in the story progression at the moment. There are a lot of areas still blocked out by those red phantom walls, and I want to get to them. I'm assuming I need to move the story along to get there, somehow.

I really liked Dead Island, but never finished it. I blame this 100% on achievement hunting. I was playing with 2-3 guys who wanted to get all the achievements in the game, and wanted to help me get all of them. We ended up spending more time trying to explore every inch of the island and get every side quest than we did just enjoying ourselves, and I sort of lost interest.Same exact scenario here. I really enjoyed what I played of it but I never finished it.
Sort of the same thing happened with Borderlands 2. We were so focused on doing side quests that it would be days between main story missions. At this point a new DLC has just come out (Hammerlock), and I haven't even started the previous one (Torgue).
Is it worth playing solo, and is it better behaved (technically) that way? I've been curious about it since it came out, but I've stayed away because of such negatives. To an extent, it is a more straightforward experience, allowing you to progress as you see fit. However, like Borderlands, it gets boring very quickly on your own.
You guys should all get BF3 so we can own some newbs!Totally. Plus we have to get on it too! We have to sort out our timezone schedule!
BL got a bit monotonous for me SP-wise. Then again, it also got a bit monotonous for me in multi. It was just that kind of game. Play for too long, the rhythm was a little too familiar. I didn't play much of Dead Island due to performance issues and the fact that I have next to no time for games, but what I played was totally awesome. And it was all solo for me.
Just finished the SP Campaign for Hitman: Absolution (PC).
Are you going to go back and try to redo some missions?
I have to say that this is one of the most frustrating Hitman games I've played. I've put in like 50 hours into the game and I'm still only on the Operation Sledgehammer mission (escaping the jail) so far. Now, I am very much a perfectionist player, so I'm trying for a stealth playthrough (no detection, all evidence, no disguises) and that takes a lot of trial and error.Took me around 32 hours to finish - and that's having numerous deaths; and reloads from an in-game save point OR just a flat-out level reload.
I'm playing through Max Payne 3 right now. I did it on Hard difficulty for some dumb reason. I'm about halfway in and it is getting really hard. I think I'll try and finish, though. It's pretty fun.

I used to be a huge fan of Hitmanm but as the series went on I started to like it less and less. No one else agrees, but I like the first one the best.I actually agree with you to an extent; Hitman: Codename 47 (the first Hitman game) was my favourite until Hitman Absolution. I liked all the others as well, but the first one left the strongest impression on me.
I just beat The Saboteur and I really liked this game, was actually kind of sad when it was over.
Extraction was fun on PS3. Though I don't know if I got to see the real ending because it crashed at the end and didn't save and I was like, fuck you, no, I'm not doing that again.
While I'm here, the talk about Wind Waker going HD got me playing that lovely game once more. (My Wii still works, after being idle over a year. Yay! It's a superior Gamecube, with progressive-scan display. It's gotten a lot more use as a GC than a Wii. How sad.) WW, being cel-based, still looks terrific. The blurry textures are few and far between, with much of the rendering being shader-based. This may be why Nintendo chose it as something to upgrade for the new console. That and the Tingle tuner being a shoe-in for the pad screen. From there, I went on to Twilight Princess (the GC version--the only proper version of that game), which I'm still playing.
Took me a little over 8 hours total playing just today alone from start to finish...
...but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PC) just got its Single Player Campaign finished.
Did you play MW1 and 2?Yup.
Is it worth it for the story/characters? (lol)That's up for debate.
As strange as it sounds I really got into the characters by the second one, and the ending was really intense. I'd love to see what's going on with them after the fact, but wasn't ready for another yearly CoD game by the time MW3 came out. (and I heard the multiplayer had balance issues)MW2 and MW3 are nowhere as grounded as MW1 was.
I'm playing Skyrim again for some reason, even though I have a huge backlog of other games. I'm doing a dual wielding, one handed, unarmored guy. Screw blocking. This character is awesome so far, especially with the Elemental Fury shout (increases attack speed substantially). It's not crazy you wound-up back to Skyrim.
Oh, and I finished New Vegas a few days ago. Great game. Although, according to the ending, I missed quite a bit of stuff along the way. Oops.
I listened to all of the people on GameFAQs and went with the first Witcher. I have to say, this game is extremely frustrating. The controls are clunky, theres no fast travel and I'm stuck on a boss battle and it won't let me save before the battle so I have to go thru the same dialog and cutscenes over and over again just so I can die. I hope the second one is a lot better...The second one is certainly better on all fronts. The first one is great but you're right, the controls can be clunky. Which camera mode are you using btw?

I forgot the name, but it's the camera angle where its over my shoulder and I move around with WASD.Ah ok, that's the least clunky of the camera angles and control schemes! haha
