For the past six months, I've been drinking at least four glasses a day. I probably need to stop.
-
I'm pretty good with regular pop/soda, but I am a sucker for those green Monsters. Those are way worse.
-
I'm more of a water/tea/milk kind of guy. I don't avoid pop, but I don't drink much of it. Guess I should have done the "Not more than three glasses a week." option, but its more like "Not more than three glasses a month."
-
I put I avoid drinking soft drinks but I'm more of a once a month kind of guy. They're just so unhealthy. After you stop drinking them for a while they'll taste way too sweet to go back to regularly.
-
Yeah, I don't avoid them exclusively, but I don't drink more than a couple a month.
-
i drink around 4 cans a day as well but it's diet soda.
-
I pretty much live on diet cola.
-
I think I've had one can of soda in the last year.
I pretty much just drink water, milk, or tea. Sometimes juice.
-
Wow... most of you are on the right track.
I assumed since you guys ate out so much, you had your sodas with your meals.
I need to control my addiction though.
-
I actually don't eat out all that much.
-

Where's all this coming from?
-
Well, I meant fast food.
-
I go cheap with fast food and never get the meal. No fast food place can make good fries and I don't want a fizzy drink. Plus they all give you a cup of water for free if you ask for it.
But in China and now India, it's so cheap to eat out and easy to get healthy fast food that I actually haven't cooked a meal since February.
-
I usually don't get a drink at fast food places since drinking carbonated beverages through a straw gives me the hiccups nearly every time.
-
What if you drank non-carbonated beverages through a straw? What if you drank a carbonated beverage without a straw?
-
Those work fine.
-
oh

8 ounces of Coke at dinner when I'm at my mother's. They're those little cans. I don't do diet drinks, ever. Don't want those lab chemicals they have the gall to call "natural" sweeteners.
I voted "not more than 3 glasses a week". That's about right.
-
I don't drink soda anymore. I think I had one can of soda in the last 6 months.
-

I can guarantee you voluntarily put worse things into your body.
-
Absolute-ly.
-
Yeah. I always avoid those artificial sweeteners. Aspartame and such, not good for you at all.
Water quenches the thirst perfectly.
-
"Quench" is a great word. Sounds almost pornographic.
-
Speaking from past experience, it can be.
-
You know what is not an awesome word? "Decadent". I hate that word.
It's like a girl word they use when they are freaking out about chocolate.
-
haha Scottws I love that word. It is so weird. For some reason it always sounds like some word used in a western.
-
"Bonding" is another girl word, though they usually apply it to males.
-
"Bonding" is only good when talking about epoxy.
-
"Moist" just sounds positively disgusting. I like it.
-
This thread has resulted in me swearing off softdrinks... at least for a while. Will switch to juice.
I have another question. I know a lot of alcohol is probably worse for you.
Are you guys as careful about your drinking?
-
Not right now...
-
I was on vacation last week and by rough estimate i put away over 100 coors lights during that time. I gained like 8 pounds, haha
-
Kind of. I don't worry about the health aspects of drinking because it's always a social thing but if I drink a lot in a week then I'll try and make up for it the next week by cooking at home. That way I'm only eating healthy food and I make up the money I spent drinking.
-
Absolute-ly.
Maybe that was too subtle. My poison of choice these days is Vodka. I have a few shots with tonic and lime just about every day at Sandy's. Now I have a bottle here too, and it's being put to good use.
-
I thought you were just weirdly agreeing with K-man
-
Absolut - ly. :)
-

Yeah, I knew a girl that hated that word because of a certain visual association with it.
-
It's mostly milk and tea now but I'll have one every once in a while. I used to drink way too much.
-
I don't usually drink soda, but when I do I like to drink Cheerwine out of a bottle - it's delicious. I'm guessing most people here haven't even heard of it since it's only available around NC.
-
I was drinking 4 cans of coke a day. I think part of the reason is that I live in a REALLY miserably hot climate, so that's partially what creates the temptation.
Also, I gained about 8 pounds over the past few months.
So yea, I tried to ditch the coke, but Coke Light (Diet Coke) tasted like crap to me.
That's when I discovered Coke Zero, which tastes so amazing. It has all the taste of coke without the sugar.
Anyway, I've lost 4 pounds in the past few weeks since switching. Yay.
-
Coke Zero? Oh. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Cola_Zero) Still has aspartame. Not for me.
-
Yup it does, but I think it has 30% as much as regular diet Coke. Plus there is a bit of other stuff in it like Vanilla that makes it taste like Coke classic.
I know I shouldn't be drinking this junk either, but I guess it is better than regular Coke.
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame_controversy#Safety_and_analysis
good enough for me. i'd rather be afflicted by a non-exiting medical issue than get fat(ter).
-
I've never been afraid of aspartame (or other sweeteners) because of cancer risk. Unlike saccharin, aspartame can cause changes in your mood. It affects your brain chemistry. I gave it up after a feeling strange pressure in my head and dizziness led me to read up on it. Oh, and there's nothing "natural" about aspartame. From a couple of food techs at General Foods my ex and I knew, it's "chemicals mixed in a vat".

Totally agree on the Coke Zero. That stuff is great. I don't know why it hasn't overtaken Diet Coke yet. I guess it's because people don't try it. Airlines always seem to carry it and I usually get that. Others near me always end up asking me if it is any good.
-
Coke Zero is very popular here in the Middle East. It seems to have essentially overtaken Diet Coke. The only people I know who still drink Diet are the ones who have always drank it, mostly the 45+ crowd. My dad being the only one among them who switched from Diet to Zero.
There's a myth, or at this point a common belief, that we in the ME are basically the testing lab for Coca Cola and PepsiCo and we generally get the worst or most volatile drinks first before they deem them safe enough or marketable for the rest of the world. We usually have a bit time to develop soda habits and market certain brands.
-
Yeah I've just grown to prefer the taste of Diet Coke. Regular soft drinks and even Coke Zero just taste too sweet to me now.
-
Diet Coke is far sweeter than regular Coke, just FYI. And Coke Zero is the worst fucking thing I have ever tasted. I don't know how anyone can go anywhere near that swill.
