Bejeweled 2 + Blitz is currently free if you're into Bejeweled.

I'm having fun with High Noon. A "freemium" game where you play a gunslinger in the west and you challenge other players to duels. You earn gold and wampum which you use to buy stuff for your cowboy like new hats and such to customize his look or to help out in the duels themselves.

Zombie Highway is free and quite fun. Drive a car down the road dodging wrecks while zombies latch on and try to make you crash. Shoot them off your car or sideswipe the wrecks to scrape them off. A great take on the infinite runner style.

This one isn't a deal, but worth mentioning. King of Dragon Pass just released and people are loving it. Reviews all seem very positive. Its $10 which is high for an iOS game, but it sounds like this one is worth it. I'm really tempted to splurge and pick it up.

Asphalt 6 is free for a limited time. Arcade racer, normally goes for $6.99. Supposed to be pretty good too.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is on sale for one day only. $0.99 for the "Micro" edition and $1.99 for the Universal one. The only real difference between them is the Universal one has better support for iPads. Don't have an iPad? Save a buck.

Micro
Universal

Recommended. Soundtrack is pretty awesome, and its name your price.

Another World is out on iOS.  It's based on the classic Out of this World.  Works for both iPad and iPhone/iPod.  $4.99 though.  I will probably get it when it goes on sale.

It still has the older normal upgrades as far as I can tell, but it all just feels really bloated now.

VidRhythm is free. First iOS game from Harmonix so its music-based, but not like anything else. In fact, its not really a game at all. There are songs built in but what you do is record your own video clips of sound. Like it will ask for a wooshing sound or something, and then you record it. Once you do all the sounds it asks for it mixes them all together into a funky music video for you. Search for it on youtube to see examples.

Couple freebies.

Veggie Samurai is a Fruit Ninja clone, but adds some of its own twists. Not bad for free.

Eliss is...uh...some game. I dunno, but its got rave reviews from various places and everyone recommends it, so might as well scoop it up.

I tried out Eliss. It's really cool but it gets difficult quick. It encourages you to use multiple fingers but playing this on smaller devices like an iPod or iPhone it gets tricky and the screen size makes it feel too cramped. I like it though, nice chiptune music and graphics.

Steambirds: Survival is a cool free game. A turn based airplane dogfighting game. Really awesome, check it out. There are ads, a banner on the menu and then a bigger ad after you complete a mission but I haven't seen any actually in-game. I didn't see an option to pay to remove the ads but the description says they are doing something about fixing/removing them? I dunno. There is also an older pay version just called Steambirds you can buy.

Also next week Rocketcat (Hook Champ/Worlds) will release Mage Gauntlet, an action RPG/Zelda type dealy. Launch price of $1.99 also gets you a early buyer bonus with a free pet and hats. That pack will later be sold for $2 as well as the game price going up to $2.99 so if you're interested at all I'd say get it sooner rather than later. These guys don't drop their prices.

Oh yeah, I just got the fastest elevator in Tiny Tower. 499 Bux is a lot to save up but it only took me a few days when I concentrated on it. Also with the update to iOS5 I can actually view other peoples towers without crashing! That was so annoying.

I got myself an iPad2! Prices dropped significantly here sine Jobs passed away and during the annual technology exhibition (GITEX).

I managed to swipe a 64GB Wifi iPad2 for the price of a 16GB! Woohoo!

Tiny Tower is addictive!

Also I was pleasantly surprised to see that iPhone-only apps totally work on the iPad but at the lower resolution.

Yeah that is one nice thing is that everything is more or less backwards compatible. So iPhone apps will work on iPads, though there are some things that are exclusively for iPad (an example being the Small Worlds board game). Keep your eye out for "Universal" releases as these work on both iPhones and iPads, but take advantage of the iPads screen.

Steambirds: Survival got an update to remove some ads that were causing trouble. Mage Gauntlet is out in some countries and should be available in the US by 8PM PST tonight.

Also coming out tonight is Robo5 (trailer), which looks like the puzzle bits of Catherine, only you play as a robot. Looks good and should be 99 cents.

Oh yeah, and Death Rally was updated with online multiplayer.

I uninstalled Tiny Tower. I got the fastest elevator and started rearranging my floors and I thought..."Why?" If I'm going to be that hooked on a game I should pick something a little deeper and more worthwhile. I enjoyed my time with it...I think...but now to move on.

I just built the 10th floor, working my way up!

It is pretty addictive but I hate playing "elevator attendant" to every bitizen that enters the building.

I have yet to find a truly awesome Android game, for free or for pay.  Well, other than Angry Birds, which is pretty good.  All the fairly decent ones seem to be based on microtransactions.

The only game I have that I come back to is Speedx, but even then it's kinda meh and only occupies me for about 5-10 minutes.

Yeah, kinda wish I had an Android device and I could look around for that stuff. Kairosoft released a couple of their games for Android. I know of at least the car racing one Grand Prix Story. Might be worth checking out. They arent the deepest games in the world but are rather addictive.

In iOS news, another freebie. Reckless Getaway where you drive like hell to escape the cops. Looks rather fun.

Speaking of SpeedX on Android, I found a good iOS equivalent called Boost 2.  It's at $0.99 until Halloween (before going back to $1.99).  It's pretty good.  It is the same idea as SpeedX, without the power ups/effects, but instead uses the concept of boosts to move faster.  When you hit a block you'll slow down.  A boost acts as a shield though so if you crash without a boost it's game over.  There are different mods like time trial and survival though that change up the rules a little.

It's great that I managed to find an iOS equivalent of my favourite Android game.

Jetpack Joyride is free*.

*You have to go to the App Store on Facebook, allow it to access your profile, like it to get a code to redeem on the iTunes store to download the game.  Afterwards you can remove the app from your Facebook profile.

Streets of Rage 2 is free today which is awesome because I've been thinking about buying it for some time now, but now it's free!

Played the first stage, it's great. Controls work as well as the touch interface can allow but I can manage pretty well but not controller perfect obviously. But most importantly the sound effects and music are pretty well intact. Man the music is so fucking great, I want to set the victory chime at the stage clear screen as my ring tone.

God damn it, enough with the awesome games. I have to buy that now, and I just picked up King of Dragon Pass which is fucking amazing. If it sounds even slightly interesting to you, grab it. It's fantastic, and the kind of thing that's actually easy to play in small chunks or big marathon sessions. I've been horribly addicted, playing out a couple scenarios at a time here and there when I have the chance.
