I played an hour of the game and I am pretty disappointed. I grew up with the Mario games, and expected this in the same mould. I knew it was going to be 3d, but still expected it to retain the style of the classic platformer.
I don't know how they thought spraying water for long periods was fun. I guess that is one of the reasons I am skeptical of Sonic 3D. I hope it retains the same fast paced action of the original platformer. I hope they can do it right.

SMS is okay once you get used to it, but yeah, it is a bit of a letdown for sure.

SMS is a follow-up to SM 64 (N64). If you haven't played that game, I can see why you'd be thrown for a loop. The business of squirting water is only a part of the overall gameplay. You'll also run into sections which do hark back to earlier Mario (ftp://cobra951.serveftp.net/SMSfalls.avi) platformers (complete with falling-off-the-screen frustrations) but in 3D. Don't give up too easily. I think you'll like the game once you get used to the mechanics.
Edit: Son of a gun. FTP tags do work.

Yea I probably will. I was just so expecting the great Mario platformer. Are there any other old school platformers you guys could recommend? Something like Sonic or Mario.
I have Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2 and they are quality titles.
Also if you have 4 controllers and buddies, then Super Mario Power Tennis freakin' ROCKS!

It was hard.

Hey hey nick! Long time no see.
Anyway, I've never played Super Mario Sunshine since I heard it wasn't that great.
Viewtiful Joe was definitely a fun game. Though it was challenging.
