I mean...$10! Thats going to be hard to pass on.
It makes me wonder...are there going to be Steam and non-Steam versions? Can they play together online? Because...$10!
-
Wow, IGN gave it an 8.8:

Nice. I wasn't all that interested, but... it's Introversion. I have to play it whether or not the concept seems like the greatest thing to me. I can't imagine it being anywhere near bad. Uplink and Darwinia were both classics. I still need to get the Darwinia in box form. Keep seeing it in Best Buy.
-
I might grab that darwinia box in stores. Hard to beat $10.
-
Damn. Just $10?
Grr. Don't make me install STEAM again and need to have STEAM to play it though. If it's not too much more stand alone I'll still go for that.
-
You can preorder now direct from IV for $18. Download day of and they ship a box copy.
Reading the forum, the box copy will not require Steam (same with the download from IV). Box and Steam copies can play online together. So...prepare to be nuked.
-
I think I'm going to pick this up. Boxed copy + download = rawk. I need to re-get Uplink, too. Friend borrowed it and never gave it back.
-
They showed a bit of DEFCON on GamerTV and it looked awesome.
-
Is there a demo of the game anywhere? What's the game about? I knew there was a thread about it over at TME, but I never read it.
-
Scott: Everybody Dies (http://www.everybody-dies.com/). You run a country and globar thermonuclear war is the order of the day. Everyone loses...you need to lose the least. You launch nukes back and forth trying to disable your enemies and keep them from returning fire.
There should be a demo available on the 29th.
-
Cool. So is it like an RTS game?
-
Yup it is. It is by the same dudes who made Darwinia.
-
I'm still trying to decide if I should spend more and get the box, or go cheap and preorder on Steam. Its a tough choice....
So...yeah, RTS. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defcon_(computer_game)) has some good info on the gameplay. Office mode sounds pretty kick ass. You can quickly "close" the game to the background...like if you're at work and your boss is coming. Reading info on the mode elsewhere, everything happens in real-time. Launching a missle from North America to Europe, the missle will have a 30min-1hour travel time (or whatever it is). Thats why the game takes 8 hours to complete. Those will be fun on weekends to check in on a game in progress through the day.
-
DEFCON = pre-ordered and currently pre-loading. Woo!
-
haha office mode makes you wonder about their thinking.
-
I love Introversion. I am nearly done with Darwinia and have played Uplink SO many times..
I am really excited. I saw it was Introversion and pre-ordered before even checking it out, but I am really happy I did because it looks awesome. I really feel the need to support companies that continually come up with creative games.
PS: I bought Darwinia on Steam for 20$ a few weeks ago and it came with Uplink.
Oh, and I loved this quote from the lead designer..
"I've seen alliance members shooting overhead friendly planes down because they believed the planes were scouting the area for targets in preparation for a strike. This results in arguments in the chat channels, followed by skirmishes at sea, followed by retaliation, before finally the whole alliance collapses and everyone starts nuking the hell out of each other. It's awesome."
-
That's a quote to hold on to, heh.
But I totally agree shock, I love Introversion and completely agree that gamers should be supporting them. I feel they're really and truly important to our industry right now.
-
heh We all know the point of purchasing this game is to nuke everyone in sight. :P Everything else is just foreplay.
