Even though I'm sure the actors get paid well there, see the HBO TV show "In Treatment" - take a bunch of good actors, good scripts, throw 'em in the same room (normally) for each episode, you have yourself a TV show.

B/c of the human element. You have to make all the explosions, lasers, spaceships, and special effects look like your characters and the environments on screen - try and make them look like it's all REAL.

The easiest way to make that type of film w/ explosions, lasers, spaceships, and other special effects - work is to make the whole entire thing CG or animated. B/c it's fantasy, it's not really trying to look real or anything - this is all created from scratch.

About games - that's easiest b/c just like a CG or animated film - it's all done from scratch.

About people in a room talking in games - that's b/c lip-syncing has to be good; the animation has to superb and go right along w/ the voice-acting; and the graphics have to look really-really good. Basically, you're trying to make something created from scratch look real - and that ain't gonna be easy. With this style here, games are trying to be more realistic - like a film shot w/ actors. That's outside of the box here for a game. It's going to be really interesting to see a game like Heavy Rain attempt to do this kind of style and try to look like your usual thriller movie - especially since there likely isn't going to be many action-game type of elements here, either.
