Possible 360 price drop in Sept
« on: Monday, August 04, 2008, 10:50:06 AM »
Source

Arcade (no hard drive) to $199
Pro (60GB) to $299
Elite (120GB) to $399

The source has predicted a lot of things in the past that all ended up being true (NeoGaf thread had a list of them), so this is very possible.

Obviously Microsoft sees 360 sales drying up and PS3 sales beginning to take off.

The 360 really needs a couple killer apps to stem the tide.  Is Halo alone really enough anymore?  XBLA is awesome, but I don't think it's enough to keep gamers away from the PS3.

They finally caved in on the size of the HDD.  They shot themselves in the foot by giving out only 13 GB of space, then expecting people to shell out $200 for the only available upgrade.  With all the money they rake in from DLC, including Xbox original games and HD movies, something had to give.

What I never got was that in most cases, 20 GB hdds are more expensive than larger hard drives, even when the 360 came out.

Only thing I can guess is some vendor or manufacturer had some huge stockpile they couldn't sell and MS got a nice discount.  That or they were hoping to indirectly force people to shell out a ton of cash for an upgrade by only offering a small amount of space as Cobra seems to allude to.
