When you get a Wii... post here.
« on: Tuesday, November 21, 2006, 05:44:47 PM »
My Wii Number is
2606 4584 9660 1632

If you get a Wii, please add me and send me your number (under hte address book, which is under the messages menu) so I can add you. We can then send messages and our Mii's can hang out each other's consoles.

Pretty sweet!

I hope to pick mine up Friday morning. I'm getting my ass up at 5:30am so I can get to gamestop at about 6:15am, so I can maybe get at the head of the line.

Is there any way I can hook this up with an ethernet cable or do I need to go and get a wireless router?

Or you could always chat with Ender on MSN. :P

But I want a Wii too.

Man that sounds weird.

Does the Wii work with WPA wireless encryption?  Or do you need to use the unsecure WEP?  I'm guessing the latter, which I completely do not understand why shit that only supports WEP still comes out.

Hell, the Xbox wireless adapter you need to have WEP and you need to broadcast your SSID.  Crazy.

I am using WEP... but there are other options, I can't remember if WPA was on there... when I get home tonight I'll check.

And no, you can't use dial up I don't think.

And I think you can hook in a connection from what I remember?

Wii supports WPA, and some other stuff.

From IGN:

# Does the Wii support WPA?

Yes. The Wii supports WEP, WPA-PSK (TKIP), WPA-PSK (AES), and WPA2-PSK (AES). Pretty surprising!

Wow, that is surprising.  You can still buy router/usb adapter combos where the packaged adapter doesn't support any encryption at all!

So, I went to Gamestop at 6:00am this morning. I was the fourth person in line. I wanted and hour, and the guy came, he said they had THREE in stock. And he handed out the vouchers to the people in front of me. I was ready to shank a bitch.

I ran to 3 other gamestop/ebgames and they were already gone. Lame ass shit.

But, Best Buy apparently has some in stock at this very moment. Problem is, they are holding them until Sunday because of their  Sunday ad. I talked to the guy there, and he told me they had about 50 already, and that they were just holding them. So, I'm getting up and I'm going to camp out there Sunday morning at about 8am. Yeah, I better fucking get one dammit.

Not Gamestop. they got anywhere from 3-12 I think.

Best Buy has them tomorrow. They open at 9am. I'm trying to decide when I should go. I'm thinking at about 7am. My luck there will be 50 people already there.

I went to Best Buy yesterday in Southern California and managed to get in there by 5:05am (they opened at 5). No dice. The guy just said they'll have some Sunday, so probably for the same reason that they told you, Scary. I'm gonna try and get to my local one tomorrow morning and pick one up. Hopefully it's the same deal in the Bay Area.

It really is.  Pissed as I was about the hoops I had to jump through to get my copy of Gears of War, it was all part of the excitement, and it isn't often I get to be *that* excited about getting a game these days.

Woot! Got one. I went to Best But at 7am this morning. There was already a huge line, and I thought I was screwed once again. But I got in line anyway. They had 51 units, and I was about 41 in line or so.

Time to play Zelda!

Thank You, Pug.

207, first game of bowling. It's pretty cool how it reacts to movements of the wrists. It's actually fairly accurate. I moved exactly how I move in real life, and I got a pretty spot on ball. Very cool.

Okay, now it's Zelda time.

Sy should, in theory, be picking his up this morning as well.  It makes me all sad that I can't be part of the fun.  =(  But way to go!  After all that crap, Scary, it's good you got one.  Otherwise I'm afraid we'd have another game-related homicide on our hands.

Well know you have a story to tell your grandkids. So how is the Wii treating you? Good so far? I am considering picking it up myself, but will wait it out in favor of better titles.

Success. I got there around 8, they handed out tickets at 9, and at 10 they started letting in a few people at a time to keep things under control. There was only one guy in the back of the line who got all pissy, but he showed up at like 9:45 so he got no sympathy. Dude kept going off on how the store opened at 10, so people in line shouldn't get it. What he wanted was for there to be a free for all or something lame like that. It was actually well handled though. I was near the back of the crowd that got their systems, but I still got it. I also picked up Super Monkey Ball and a 1gig memory card (I bought Zelda last week). Unfortunately there were no extra controllers, but that's cool for now.

For now, I go back to sleep for a little because Aimee's not awake yet.

And you could have joined the fun Que if you wanted to wait with me.

I was gonna' ask if you wanted company, but it's probably good I didn't.  I ended up sleeping until almost 10 today.

But now I'm bored out of my fucking mind.  Don't know what's wrong with me.  I'm all anxious but can't find anything I want to do, and I don't really feel like doing any more writing today.  I feel like I want to play a game, but the only thing I can seem to want to play is WoW, and I'm trying really hard not to do that.  I even almost considered picking up Guild Wars...

Not to take this thread completely off topic, but it is funny as I've been considering purchasing Guild Wars myself. The new one looks fantastic in PC Gamer, and I really want to play the first game before anything else.

Well, so far I'm impressed and I haven't even put a game in. I've been playing with just the Wii menus and settings and it's cool. Everything is set up easily and the wireless stuff works like a charm. I've already registered online and the really cool thing is that you can tie it to your Nintendo.com account, so if you've been registering your games with them (and you should because they send out free stuff randomly) then you're all good to go.

This here's for Ender and Scary.

I'm going to set up some wi-fi next week, so I can partake in the interweb stuff.

But I'm digging it so far. Bowling rocks, and Zelda is getting better and better. Took a while to get used to the controls, but it's starting to feel very natural to me. I still suck at the horizontal sword slice though. I can't seem to get the movement right or something, and it ends up doing a vertical slice. But the way you can interact with the game is just cool. Very neat. I can't wait to see what developers do with this thing in the next few years.

Two days with no luck getting a Wii.  I'm hoping the local Gamestop gets the shipment on Tuesday like they should.  It might merit a couple class skippings.  Hmm.
