Xbox Live Ultimate Game Sale - Mar 2: Dishonored, Batman, Fallout, more

Quote
starting February 26, 2013 and running through March 4, 2013, over 60 Xbox 360 Games on Demand titles will be on sale up to 75% off with some as much as 85% off for the “Xbox Ultimate Game Sale”*

Each day, a different set of titles will be on sale, so be sure to follow me on Twitter where I’ll announce what that day’s special offer.  The Ultimate Game Sale only occurs once a year so you won’t want to miss it

Basically works like Steam sales. There's deals that span the entire week, and then there's daily deals. Though I have no idea if games from the week long sales can show up as a one day deal as well. (on Steam this is the reason you wait for the daily deals, then buy the non-daily stuff on the last day) Just for clarity, this is downloadable games only, and appears to be Games on Demand titles only (digital versions of disc based games, no XBLA games). I know it's probably obvious, but you never know.

I was going to post something about this.  It looks like you got more info than what I knew.  I picked up Dirt 2 for $5 today.  Awesome.

I'm thinking seriously about getting The Darkness and Kane & Lynch. I've got pretty much zero money, but have $10 in MS points from Bing rewards. I don't know if there's anything else on the list I feel that strongly about.

I'm sure there'll be a good deal on the Batman games and Red Dead Redemption and I'll feel bad about skipping them just because of how much other people love them. I tried the demo for Arkham Asylum and it seemed fine, but didn't grab me. I completely wrote off RDR because I don't care for open world action games much. I did play Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 but got bored of the story and characters after 2. (Ezio... ugh)

Absolutely get The Darkness. I can't sing the praises of those two games highly enough. They're beautiful, pitch-perfect games for me. Though bear in mind you could get a physical copy at that price pretty much anyplace that has a good selection of used games. If you prefer a boxed copy.

Does The Darkness get more fucked up later in the game, or is it mostly just killing mobsters? The mechanics seem kind of cool, but the into made it look like things get pretty dark and disturbing.

Yeah, it does take some twisty paths along the way. There's some playing around with unreality in both games in different ways, though it's somewhat more extensive in the first. The bulk of the experience is just hardcore violence as you murder the mob, but there's also some great art, music, and a surprisingly emotional story at play as it all goes. Plus Mike Patton. I highly doubt you'll regret giving it a play. I rarely ever play games more than once because I have no time, and it takes a pretty special NG+ mode or something to entice me back sometimes. I beat the first Darkness 3 times.

Day 4 is Call of Duty.

TODAY'S SALES:
http://majornelson.com/2013/02/28/xbox-live-ultimate-game-sale-day-4/
Call of Duty 2 -- $10 (from $20) Mar 1
Call of Duty 3 -- $10 (from $20) Mar 1
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare -- $10 (from $20) Mar 1
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 -- $10 (from $30) Mar 1
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 -- $30 (from $60) Mar 1
Call of Duty: World at War -- $10 (from $20) Feb 28
Call of Duty: Black Ops -- $20 (from $50) Mar 1
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 -- $50 (from $60) Mar 1

That $10 (17%) off Black Ops 2 is pretty pitiful. So is the fact that MW3 is still $60, but at least it's 50% off.

I grabbed Civ Revolution.  I've been on the fence on that game for, what, over 4 years?  Last day of the sale, so yeah.  Downloading now.  I keep looking at El Shaddai.  I know it's cheap as hell, but what I've seen just doesn't move me.  No interest in the fighting games like MK or SF at all.  I already own everything else I care about, I think.  Best sale on XBLA yet, by far.  Maybe if the sales numbers are high enough, they'll wake up and do it more often.  Better late than never.

Don't know if you can do it on the web site, but on the Xbox dashboard just before you confirm your purchase, you can press X to switch to MS Points.

I got Grid that way (press 'X', use 400 pts), so I know it works.  . . . And for the hell of it, I tried it on El Shaddai.  'X' switches from $2.99 to 240 pts.

Well that works just like you said it would.  I decided to not buy it.  Despite being 3 bucks, it looks like one of those games that's "worth playing" but not necessarily a "must-play".   I've just got way too much "must play" in my backlog to keep piling it on.

Plus I know the minute I spend my points some DLC for a game I own will go on sale.

That's how I felt about it too, more or less.  Tempting for so little money, but not enough.  And with the 3 games I grabbed on this sale (~18 GB) I've filled up my hard drive now (4.9 GB free).  I've already deleted most demos and trials.  Now I have to start deleting installed disc games if I want to get any more sizeable stuff.  (I'm sure as hell not deleting any digital purchases.)  The only one I see offhand that I wouldn't mind removing is Mass Effect 2 (13 GB, both discs).  I doubt I'll ever play that again.  Deleting anything else looks painful.  Damn.  And here I thought 250 GB was more than enough for the life of the platform.

You can download digital purchases an unlimited number of times, it's just not easy to keep track of it all. I'm not sure if digital purchases you don't have installed show up or not. If you know you own a game though, you can go to its info and re-download it. Or you could check yoru download history, but that's organized by date and could take forever to find what you want.

Yeah, I know how that works.  I just don't like the idea of not having what I bought, anywhere.  I guess when digital distribution takes over the world, I'll get over my quaint ideas about possession and ownership, if I'm still alive.  :P

Yea I feel the same way, sorta. I keep anything I've bought on XBL downloaded. On Steam though, I only keep what I think I might actually play installed. I guess I feel better about being able to find my stuff on Steam, since it's just a list of all my games.
