Based on the videogame series of the same name. Well, Japanese name. Some of the games were released in the UK as Zombie Zone and Zombie Hunters.

Japanese Bikini Samurai Cowgirl vs Zombies

Thats really all you need to know about the games. And then they took that and decided to make a live action movie.

I was kinda expecting it to be on the level of Casshern or Shinobi, but Scott sums it up fairly well.
