A Day with Sy
« on: Wednesday, February 14, 2007, 11:24:17 PM »
Well, I said I would get to this at some point and today I did. I've apparently got like 4mbs of images here, so I'm sorry Idol.

I guess I should start by saying I started going back to school last fall. I've sorta assume most of you have figure that out by now, but I'm pretty sure I haven't come straight out and said it myself. I'm going to school full time, so I'm only a seasonal employee at my old job at the copy store. Generally that means I work there full time during the months of August and January and once in a while during the remainder of the year. Currently I show up for four hours on Mondays, but that'll probably disappear in a couple weeks.

That also means each weekday is somewhat different and my routine is on a weekly basis rather than a daily one. So I'm just gonna take you on something of a tour to show where I generally could be.

Things start out in the new apartment and my “room”, which is really just where I do all my stuff while Aimee and I share the bedroom. Props to Idol for finding Autostitch. The little program is amazing.

This side is the extra TV and my computer area.

And this side has more or less become devoted to my painting and Warhammer exploits.

I'm rather proud of my little room, so I also uploaded higher resolution shots to show off.
Side 1 and Side 2

This is my living room which has become the place for normal TV and consoles. We're still somewhat decorating things and trying to figure out what we can put on the walls and those shelves.

As I said, my schedule is pretty varied and I can leave the house from anywhere between 8AM to noon. Today I left around 11AM and this is the last look I got of my little apartment building.

I live fairly close to a BART station so I pretty much use it for all my commuting. It's the open structure above the freeway here.

From the top platform you can get a pretty good view of the entire bay. Today you could almost make out San Francisco, where I'm heading.

This is the train coming from the east.

My commute is about 35-40 minutes long so it's not horribly bad. Usually I can do something during the time because I'm just riding the train the entire time. While you're underground most of the time, you do get a cool view of the Oakland shipyard right before you enter the Transbay Tunnel. The giant dock cranes here were supposedly George Lucas' inspiration for the AT-ATs in Star Wars.

I go pretty far down the BART line in San Francisco and my school is actually a bit of a ways from downtown. This is the station I exit at.

When you leave the station you get a quick view of my school. It's that cluster of bigger buildings on the hill to the right.

After a quick walk you get to campus. The place is more or less built on and around a central hill. This is one of the bigger buildings there and the building I share the closest ties to since it's the science building (aptly named Science Hall). This is a view from the south entrance looking to the center of campus.

On the southeast corner is the library, where I'm generally napping, playing my DS, or actually doing work between classes.

Since the campus is on a hill it actually has some decent views all around. This is a view from the east side of things.

Walking around you get to the north side of campus where the arts buildings are. Most of my classes this semester are actually here because I'm taking a couple art history classes and a writing course.

On the west side of campus you can see the school parking lot, a chunk of city, and the Pacific Ocean. I'm not exactly sure what the bigger building is there, so I like to imagine it's something like the Tower of Fanatics where people chant evil sounding stuff while marching around in circles out front.

Finishing up the circle, this is view from the south side of campus looking out from the Science building you see when you first enter campus.

Today my reason for being on campus was to actually tutor people taking the intro to Geology course. I'm something of a lab assistant for the lab portion of the class, which is more or less an overview of basic Geology skills like identifying minerals and making cross-sections. This is the main Earth Sciences classroom and where the lab meets.

Finally, this here is often the last thing I see before I head home at night. It's the same view from the south end of campus, but all the lights making it all pretty and stuff. The geology room actually faces this direction, so when you leave you walk out to see this.

And that's more or less it. Not much special, but at least you get some cool views of the south end of San Francisco.

So, who's next?

Ah good, glad your getting settled in and stuff. I like the campus, very scenic being on top of a hill and all. And I very much dig your room. You and Que both know how to make awesome rooms. Good stuff.

Awesome pictures.  They're so clear.  Cool to see where you're going every day and stuff since all I ever see is the inside of the magical Warhammer room, heh.  You make me wish I wasn't a total failure at life.

Cool pics and nice room setup, a lot of those shots of the hills and the buildings on them remind me of certain spots here in Austin.  You've got action figures all over the computer desk like me, it sucks when they all fall over when someone bumps into my desk really hard.  I'll probably do something like this someday, need to get a digital camera first though, something I might use my bonus for.

Nice pics. Kinda makes me miss back when I was in college.

I could do something like this, but I'd have to dig out my webcam, which kind of has limited reach.

I'd really like to do one of these myself.  I'm in a bit of an interesting area of Boston which would make for a cool set of pictures.  The only thing stopping me is my laziness, and the utter mess that is my room.  Once I clean up a little I'll give the tour.

In the meantime, since I'm sitting here next to it, I snapped a quick pic out the window.

Those views of SF are awesome, Sy.

Very cool, Sir. Great pics. I'd like to do something like that with my computer room here, but at the moment it just consists of a love seat, 2 chairs, a small entertainment center with my TV, and systems hooked up, and my computer desk. Nothing cool on the walls, a couple action figures here and there, but nothing awesome like yours. Some collectors edition game boxed sitting around. thats about it.  You've made me want to get up, clean, and reorganize my shit.

Every time I see these, I'm envious of where you guys are located. I swear, Columbus, Ohio is one of the ugliest boring cities ever. Very few interesting things to see, or do. No awesome views of anything. And right now it's covered in about 8 inches of snow.

Oh hell. I forgot about the tradition of a self portrait on these things.

Well, I don't actually have one on my computer (really, who takes pictures for themselves... unless they're Myspace whores). It'd be strange to do one now because it seems rather vain... not that this whole thing isn't. Hmmm.

Funny I was thinking the same exact thing. My college campus couldn't have been more different from that one, but somehow it felt familiar.

Anyway, Cool pics.  Your room is a really nice setup.  I dig that huge window.

Okay. Fine. Self portrait.

I was avoiding this because it meant I'd have to let loose another secret... Well, here goes.

Yes folks. I am an unholy union of chicken and dog. The Chinese people really love me.

And Nick, no one told you that I'm Savarian?
