Title: Die Hard 4
Post by: PyroMenace on Sunday, January 07, 2007, 06:15:31 PM
I don't know. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztfShRH5YYw) I just don't know. Its got Bruce Willis, he doesn't seem to act like Mclane. The movie looks more darker... but I guess thats the new fad and its being directed by the guy who did the Underworld movies which would also explain it. I mean it can be entertaining... but will it feel like a Die Hard movie? Doesn't look like it.

I have never seen a Die Hard movie.  No James Bond, either.

I hear Kevin Smith will do a cameo though probably not as Silent Bob.

I don't think it looks to bad, the action looks good and plenty and Bruce Willis hasn't disappointed me yet. I'm not so sure about his comic relief, I don't think that nerdy kid can pull it off, bring back Sammy L.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

But, yeah -- Samuel L. Jackson rocked in Die Hard 3

Die Hard 3 was so awesome they should have really let the series lie after it was over.  Oh well.  I don't doubt the movie will be entertaining.

I love the first one... never actually saw the other two though. I figured it went downhill like most franchises after. After hearing that three was awesome, maybe I should look into the other two.

Die Hard With a Vengeance is actually my least favorite.  One is the best by far, but I thought two was alright.  I didn't like three much.

Que, you are missing out on some classics. Die Hard was great, the other two were mediocre in comparison. They sure have waited long enough to make a fourth. It probably won't compare to the original, but I'll end up watching it most likely.

The first Die Hard certainly brings back some memories.

Die Hard 1 was awesome.  I agree 2 wasn't quite as good, but 3 is equal with 1 in my eyes.

Just saw 4. It wasn't bad... but he didn't feel like Mclane at all. I liked it, but it wasn't nearly as good as the first one.

The first had genuine tension that just can't be recaptured.

:o  How can anyone make it through the past 20-40 years without ever seeing a Bond movie?  That's some sort of achievement.  You should watch all the musical intro sequences sometime.  They're entertainment by themselves.

I think they explained it best in the Office.  In Die Hard, John Mclane was just a regular cop.  Your everyday average joe.  But in Die Hard 4, he's jumping onto jet planes and driving cars into helicopters.  It's not the same feeling anymore.

Yes while it was pretty awesome in terms of action, that's pretty much it. He is John McLane, not James Bonambo.

Though I have to admit, the movie didn't involve me at all emotionally, so I wasn't entirely surprised by the ending sequences. You could tell from the start what sort of an action movie it was aiming for. It was less about grit, and more about popcorn fun, which isn't a bad thing considering how every flick is following the dark and brooding trend. Trouble is that Die Hard 1 was actually about intense gritty action, back when it wasn't just a trend.

I was thinking how anyone who watched the first back in the day, would have never in their wildest imagination thought that John Mclane would be jumping between choppers and jets. In fact, like everyone said, it didn't feel like a Die Hard movie, but more like a typical action movie. In fact Bruce Willis seemed a bit confused. I think the sad thing is this could have been just another Bruce Willis movie, and I have a feeling the producers were too worried that today's youth might not give a rat's ass if much was made of the Die Hard continuity.

Having said all that, I enjoyed the movie. It was just very different from what I expected.

The original Die Hard set the template for nearly every action movie that followed, but it also presented some problems, especially for the three sequels: Filmmakers trying to make something bigger and more exciting immediately had to abandon the compactness and efficiency that made the first film so special. In the process, Bruce Willis' earthy blue-collar cop has evolved from a resourceful little "fly in the ointment" into a steely, indestructible superhero with about as much in common with mere mortals as Angelina Jolie. The fourth entry in the Die Hard series, Live Free Or Die Hard, pushes Willis' die-hardiness to ever more ludicrous extremes, pitting him against helicopters, flying cars, an F-35, and even a sexy computer geek/ninja. His body withstands far more abuse than it did in Die Hard, yet none of the scrapes and bruises he sustains are as wince-inducing as the image of his younger self in the first film, padding across broken glass with bare feet. He was human back in 1988; now he's the Terminator.

That was a great scene where he walked on the glass and was desperate enough to try on the dead terrorist's boots.

Apparently I never posted after I saw this.  I did, though, and I loved it, actually.  I'm not much of an action movie guy most of the time, but it was pure, ridiculous fun.

I must have blanked out on this thread too because I saw it a couple of weeks after it came out and enjoyed it.  The helicopter scenes were awesome.

Ever see the PA comic about this movie?  I found it funny, even though I loved Live Free or Die Hard and personally thought that it was one of the very few movies that heavily incorporated technology that didn't do it in a corny way or explain things completely wrong as the PA comic insinuates.  I think PA should have gone after Transformers more on this, but it's still funny either way.

Heh, that is pretty funny... but yeah, I thought it was done at least marginally better than your average movie that tries that kind of stunt.  It wasn't great, but it was far better than most.
