Not really much of a surprise.  I'm sure they can do some cool stuff with a sequel.

Looks like originally, Capcom wasn't too interested in having Dead Rising AND Lost Planet being made....

...Yet, as we know, both will very likely have sequels.... (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3157081)

Quote
Capcom Didn't Want Lost Planet, Dead Rising at First
Original games and cost of next-gen development scared them.
By Patrick Klepek, 02/09/2007
Despite how well received both Dead Rising and Lost Planet have been, turns out Capcom wasn't exactly sold on the games when they first came to the table. Longtime Capcom designer Kenji Inafune -- yes, the same guy who came up with Mega Man -- has evolved into more of a producer these days and was responsible for selling Capcom management on both games.

They didn't bite, he says during an incredibly candid (seriously, read the whole thing) interview with Capcom community mogul Brian Dunn.

"...management initially was very much against developing the games. Actually for a while there we were practically on the verge of having the projects cancelled. But I knew that Capcom just had to follow through with these titles, that the company needed them. So over the course of several months, I did my best to convince the decision-makers that these games have what it takes to succeed, to be hits and make money for the company. There was a time when I considered giving up on these two games, but I'm really glad I stuck with them and convinced management to let us make the games.

But looking at it from management's perspective, this is the (Xbox) 360 we're talking about, in Japan. So there's that. Plus, being next-gen means development's not going to be cheap by any means. It's a very big investment for a company. So I guess it's only natural that they would be apprehensive about okaying the games, both Lost Planet and Dead Rising. But as a game creator, if you can't convince them to take those kinds of risks, you'll never be able to make any good games."

In fact, Inafume sees the games as a turning point for Capcom as a company, signaling an ability to produce original IPs that appeal to the worldwide consumer. Sure, we're probably going to see sequels to Dead Rising and Lost Planet, but Inafune promises these are not the last of the "risky" ventures we'll see from Capcom.

"Just know that I'm not stopping there, now that Lost Planet's out the door. There are more titles like this in store for fans: risky, challenging games, with a lot riding on them."

That's refreshing to hear.

That could have a lot of potential for a great boss fight! ;D

Plus it might work with a similar effect as this (http://www.impawards.com/2008/posters/zombie_strippers_xlg.jpg).

God, I still can't believe that was a real movie! haha

DRM - Depends on the game and if there are extra additional other DRM measures.
Tools - I prefer Steam's tools over G4WL.

So I'm sure some of you have heard of this, but I haven't found a topic for it yet. Dead Rising 2: Case 0 just came out. It's a sort of precursor to DR2, and takes place in-between the two games. It's only for Xbox for some reason (though DR2 will be for PC and PS3 as well), and any money or levels you gain will transfer over to DR2. (level limit is 5, not sure if there's a money limit) It costs $5 (400MSP), and it sounds a lot like a demo at first, but it's a lot more actually.

You get a small town to wander around in, with about a dozen different stores/buildings to explore. Not all are easily accessible, some require rooftop jumping, or require you to find a key. There are 12 survivors to find and rescue, 9 weapon combinations to create, and 1 psycho to defeat. One playthrough is roughly 13 in-game hours (which is just over an hour of gameplay).

It's got the same basic structure as DR1, where you have a limited time until the end of the game, and then your character persists from playthrough to playthrough. When you finish the game, it allows you to make a new game using that save. BTW, there's 3 save slots now, and you're prompted to save at key story events. Otherwise, it's back to the bathroom to save. The controls and especially the gunplay feel a lot better this time around. Also, I was never a fan of the camera mechanic in DR1, so I like that it's been replaced with a sort of crafting system to make weapons with.

My first playthough, I didn't complete the main quest and I got a grade F ending. I feel like I would have had to really focus on the primary quests to complete them, but then I really didn't know where anything was. Now that I know where to go for most of the main quest, I could probably complete it and save some people on the side, all in one playthrough. Though I still only ran into 7 of the 12 survivors, and didn't end up fighting the psycho. Basically I ran out of time and didn't get anything done. I got some survivors back to the safehouse, but since I never went back to escape town, I don't know if I actually saved them.

I could easily see playing through the game a few more times to find more items to craft, and find the other survivors and try for a better ending. I didn't care for the mechanics of DR1 too much, but the small improvements in this one seem to have gone a long way, for me at least.

1Up -> Dead Rising 2: Case West DLC announced as X360-Exclusive DLC. (http://www.1up.com/news/frank-west-dead-rising-comeback)

Quote
After a brief stint punching giant robots in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Frank West is just about ready to resume his regularly scheduled zombie safari. Capcom has confirmed Dead Rising 2: Case West for a December release.

The downloadable epilogue to Dead Rising 2 will team the second game's protagonist, Chuck Greene, with the original Dead Rising's Frank West for a little co-op mayhem. In addition to providing a fresh setting, more survivors to rescue, and new combo weapons, Case West is also set to restore the photography mechanics from the first game.

Capcom hasn't mentioned a price for the Xbox 360-exclusive DLC, but considering the success the company had with Dead Rising: Case Zero at $5, it seems reasonable to hope for similar pricing with this download. We'll pass along the official details as soon as they're available.
