A new game by the creator of Eternal Daughter? (http://www.aquariagame.com/) Hell yes and a half. If these Bit Blot guys stick around (http://www.bit-blot.com/) I think they may be ones to watch.
I eagerly await spring 2007 for many reasons already, but I'll add Aquaria to the list for sure. Check out the video on the site and tell me that doesn't look fun as all get out. Maybe I'm biased being an Ecco the Dolphin fan, though, and a total sucker for any design involving water...

That looks pretty awesome. Plus it will probably run on my computer, which is a huge plus. I dig the style of the game, very artistic.
-
And I should mention -- if you've never played Eternal Daughter and like older-school games (it's sort of... Zelda/Metroid-like) with a high degree of difficulty, try it. I absolutely love that game to friggin' death.
-
Hmm, I tried a search through Gamespot and they dont have a listing for that game.
-
They wouldn't. It was indie and very under the radar. And FREE!

Eternal Daughter is an epic platform game that took myself and my friend Jon two years to make and nearly destroyed our immortal souls. It's an homage to some of our favorite games from our preteen years, like Super Metroid and Castlevania: SOTN.
Even though the gameplay is familiar, the world, the characters, and the story are all our own. The game also marks my first teaming up with Swedish music virtuoso, David Saulesco, who produced an original soundtrack for the game. We've been happy together ever since.
1up.com: "Everything about Eternal Daughter is pure Metroidvania, with a dash of Popful Mail for flavor. Everything that made those games fun is here, only with its own unique visual style and an amount of polish that you just don't see very often in an indy game."
Home of the Underdogs: "Simply put, Eternal Daughter exemplifies what action gaming should be all about: intuitive controls, smooth gameplay, innovative and varied challenges, tough enemies, and above all - thoroughly addictive."

Someone needs to port Eternal Daughter to the GBA. That would be like the best thing ever.
-
Indeed it would. I would pay good money for that.
-
Bit-Blot has a blog now! (http://www.bit-blot.com/) Pretty cool stuff. Man I can't wait for this game.
-
New trailer and some other stuff (http://www.bit-blot.com/). Go now! It's fucking awesome. Seriously.
-
Downloading. I'm getting excited for this one.
-
Holy shit, that game is going to rule all.
-
Yes, that looks amazing. The artwork and design look stellar.
I just hope it runs on my system.
-
Wow that looks so attractive. It is very cute yet has a bit of elegance at the same time. I also liked the music. I'd love to play a game like this. How much do they charge?
-
Indie titles are usually cheaper than most. I'd say they'll charge $30 or so for it.
-
I'm guessing $30, but I don't think they've said. I've been hanging out on their boards for a while now and it's been cool to interact more with the guys. I loved Eternal Daughter so I knew I was going to want this, but after seeing that 1024x768 trailer... holy crackmonkeys! If this game sucks, I'll eat my hat. I don't think it's possible.
-
I love the Mega Man-esque boss fights. Just the feeling that the door is closing behind you and there is no escape except victory has always appealed to me.
-
That is shaping up nicely. That bit with the angler fish was probably my favorite.
-
Yeah, that was sweet. And the part with the empty city or whatever (and the cool sort of Metroid-looking jellyfish in the background) looked really neato. I can't wait for it. Talking to the guys at their boards just gets me more excited, too.
-
Man...IGN forums are full of dumbshits.
Looks like something I wouldn't pay $10 for on XBLA.
Yeah, we can't all be fucking Root Beer Tapper (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/r/rootbeertapperxboxlivearcade/default.htm)...
Did any of you actually WATCH the video of it? Ugh. Looks nice in screen shots, but when you see it animate......poopie. I'm pretty sure SOTN(which is coming to XBLA) has more frames of animation than this. I'm sure you would all pay $30 for this game, lol.
Forget that Konami is a huge company, making the 13th installment of the extremely popular Castlevania series and more likely than not had much more than 2 people working on the title....
Boggles my mind, all these "young gamers" have no sense of respect for things like this. Its all about looks and crap. And even then this game is amazing to look at! How can you bitch?
-
Idol why did you have to do that. Make me angry...
And that is very pretty visually I think.
-
Sorry...had to vent.
-
If I ever wanted to find a reason to hit myself in the head repeatedly because of the stupid people in the world, I would visit the IGN boards. I haven't been there since I found the original link to the gamers.com boards.
-
Well they do have a point. I mean, I don't even see any normal mapping going on in the video. And they are right about the animation....it's not even motion captured.
-
Heh, that'll be the next step in 2d gaming. Mocapping sprites.
But yes, visiting IGN is basically as much fun as having someone whack you in the head with a shovel a few times. It hurts, it's pointless, and it makes you want to punch somebody.
-
Mocap the next step for 2D? It's been done, they just call it rotoscoping. See Prince of Persia 1 and 2.
-
Good point. Another good joke ruined by reality.
