Stupid contest since the mother was trying to win the Wii for her kids... and now the kids don't have a mother.
-
I hope they have a good lawyer. The kids, I mean. I hope the station's lawyer is an idiot. Yeah, I know, she drank the water. Darwin and all that. But the station created the situation, and the kids now have serious needs they didn't before.
-
That's awful. How fucking stupid are the guys at the station? That's a lot of fucking water though.
-
Though this is the first time I heard you could die from drinking too much water. Well, other than outright drowning.
She must have had a bladder of steel.
-
I too had had heard never heard of death from excess water, so looked up "water intoxication" in Wikipedia. The Wikipedia entry for "water intoxication" already references this event as one of the "famous cases of water intoxication."
-
It isn't new news to me. I've heard of this before, though I don't recall any specific circumstances (i.e. news stories). That's really sad. I hope the station gets run into the ground. Idiots should have known better.
-
What a dumb contest. They should have foreseen that someone would want the Wii enough to go to the extreme. People are crazy, and will do crazy things to get what they want. Generally, you would throw up if you drank that much water, I wonder how she kept it all in.
-
Ummmm....all I can say is...
WTF?
:o
-
Water intoxication is one of the biggest causes of death for people on ecstasy... they think they're dehydrated all the time and hydrate themselves to death.
-
But did they get the Wii?
-
No she did not win from what I've heard (doesn't say in the article though).
-
I know. I was just making a bad joke.
-
Water intoxication isn't all that uncommon of a thing, you would have throught someone at the radio station would have heard of it. I've heard of a couple cases all relating to ecstacy.
Anyway, couldn't the same goal have been achieved by giving everyone a bunch of water up front and making them wait? Why did they keep giving the contestants more water?

Here's some audio from the contest:

-
Caller: "The people . . . could die from water intoxication."
DJ: "We're aware of that . . . we're not responsible . . ."
End of subject. Case closed. The woman's kids now own the radio station. Gavel down. Judge Cobra has left the building.

Man.. I don't know what to say. On one hand she did die and it is horrible, but I am sure if they knew how it would they would have decided against the contest. They were guilty of being stupid.
This story makes me sad every time I see it.
