What are y'all listening to as you write your post?
Right now, I'm listening to "Memory Lane (Sittin' In Da Park)" by Nas from his "Illmatic: 10 Year Anniversary" album.
-
Not listening to anything.
-
Pretty much what I've been posting about. Shinedown's album "Us and Them" is fucking awesome, and I'm also getting into Audioslave's "Revelations."
I also just recently downloaded a Soundgarden discography, with every album and every B-side they've ever done. Pretty much everything. It's badass, I can't stop listening to it.
Also, I've been rockin' some Stone Temple Pilots, and some Alice in Chains because I'm learning some of their songs on the guitar.
The Strokes' new album is pretty cool, too. Check out the track "You only live once." Good Stuff
EDIT: I'm actually working on a cover of Alice in Chains' "Nutshell." Maybe I'll post it if it comes out good.
-
Besides listening to the Xenosaga Episode II and III soundtracks off and on, I've been listening to a lot of Pantera and Zao lately. Right now this moment though Xenosaga II's "Sweet Song" is playing.
-
Ive just had Meshuggah's Chaosphere playing through my head alot to get me through work.
This amused me. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5A0q63_gbo)
-
I was just listening to some 1950's Arabic music. I don't know why I used to hate the stuff when I was a younger, but now it's like I feel at ease when I hear it. I can relate to it.
Looks like the playlist moved on to some classic Frank Sinatra.. Well that's what I'm listening to now.
-
JSRF Soundtrack - Fly Like A Butterfly
-
Heh, I love the NMCC video. They did that when they were touring Chaosphere with Slayer.
-
my winamp playlist has had a bunch of bad religon albums on shuffle for the past few days. bad religion kick ass.
-
TV On the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain (LOVE IT!)
Thom Yorke - The Eraser (Love it, too)
Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds (Okay... so I love it. I don't care)
The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth (Its really good. Still not Is This It... but what is)
Arctic Monkeys - What Everyone Says I'm That's What I'm Not (Been listening to this since it came out. Probably the best debut I've heard in a long time)
And other random play.
-
I've been listening to my Motorhead collection today, right now I'm listening to "Bad Woman".
-
The greatest song to come out of 1997.
Any guesses?
EDIT:
So turns out it was released in '99. The fact I thought it was '97 is probably a clue.
-
Listening to NIN's song "Me, I'm Not" right now, at the second I post this....
-
Nobody?
Well. It was Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen).
-
Nobody?
Well. It was Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen).
Does that even count as a song?
-
It was a hit single, so yes.
-
I remember that song. Very....different.
-
yes, i remember it too. i'd have to go with idol's descriptor. it's not much of a song in my book, interesting message though.
i'm currently listening to treasure cat (http://www.myspace.com/treasurecatwv), as pimped in that other thread. also a band called "the pluto", who i saw the other night at a local venue and totally blew me away. passionate and hard. their stuff is at the harsher end of the spectrum, so most of you guys will probably hate it, but you should still give it a go because it's awesome. free music here (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=9931413).
-
Listening to "Little Cream Soda" by The White Stripes
(from their new "Icky Thump LP")
-
some classical music... :s
-
some classical music... :s
Yay for classical music, I'm listening to Gustav Holst's "The Planets" right now.
-
Nelly Furtado -- "All Good Things (Come To An End)"
(that's from her most recent Timbaland/Danja produced album, "Loose").
-
rhythm of the falling rain....
-
Whiskeytown - Pneumonia
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger
and the Morrowind OST
-
Arsis - United in Regret
-
I was just listening to that today, Pyro. Good album, though I'm now fully convinced that A Diamond for Disease is their best release, followed by A Celebration of Guilt, then followed by United in Regret. I still dig the album, though.
I've also been going through old stuff.
Idol, Dan, you guys HAVE to listen to Loudflower. I mentioned it to Idol when he was talking about how few rock bands have horn sections, and these guys are just freaking awesome. One album... "Happy Now?". One of my all-time favorites. Also, check out Five Iron Frenzy's first album, "Upbeats and Beatdowns". Ska/punk/rock with lots of funny (and horns).
Was also listening to 311's "Transistor", which I hadn't heard in years. Man, that CD had so many freaking songs on it. Like tons. I'm not in love with all of them, but talk about getting your money's worth. And the title track was bloody awesome.
I found my old Grammatrain CD (the only one I own) which has one of my all-time favorite tunes... "Flying". It's the title track of the album. Along with that I found some Poor Old Lu CDs too, which was pretty cool. Their album "Sin" is a favorite, and you have to listen to the track "Cannon Fire Orange".
Yes, some of this is "Christian" music. Suck it up and listen, damn it.
Grammatrain (http://www.amazon.com/Flying-Grammatrain/dp/B000000V14/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-4983187-1310826?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1184314808&sr=8-1) - Check out "Less", "Flying", "Sell Your Soul".
Amazon has nothing from Poor Old Lu's back catalog (http://www.amazon.com/Waiting-Room-Poor-Old-Lu/dp/B00006JJ41/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-4983187-1310826?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1184315100&sr=1-1), but apparently they have a new album... and the stuff sounds pretty good. Gives you an idea. I really love their vocalist, he's got a unique voice you won't hear anywhere else. You can't quite hear it perfectly in the clips, and these songs don't seem at first glance quite as awesome as the old stuff, but... yeah.
I may have posted Driver Eight before (http://www.amazon.com/Watermelon-Driver-Eight/dp/B000003ZFH/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-4983187-1310826?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1184315310&sr=1-1), but here they are again. Listen to "Strange". One of my favorite songs ever. The clip sort of sucks, though. But a really good band anyway. I think this was their only release.
And here's Havalina Rail Co. (http://www.amazon.com/Havalina-Rail-Co/dp/B000003ZDG/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-4983187-1310826?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1184315434&sr=1-1) with their self-titled. Try "Ragtime", "Proportion Thing" (fuck I love this song), "If You Leave", and "This Monkey Doesn't Take Nickels and Dimes". This is crazy stuff, with jazz elements, swing, blues, and other sorta' down home stuff. If you don't like it, someone should shoot you in the face. Also, it's up there with the aforementioned 311 album... 19 songs for 5 bucks. Beat that, I dare you.
How could I forget another Havalina favorite (http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Fish-Havalina-Rail-Co/dp/B000003ZFC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/105-4983187-1310826?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1184315434&sr=1-3), "Diamond in the Fish"! Try it, you'll like it. Last song on the album, and to this day it drives me crazy I love it so much.
I should stop now. Nostalgia has gotten the better of me and I know nobody is going to read this.
-
Whoa I didn't know you listened to 311. I'm a fan of their older stuff. Transistor was one of their experimental albums, as well as Sound System, after that they released an album that was more bound to their roots, From Chaos, which was pretty good. I have that one along with their first 3 albums, Music, Grassroots, and the self-titled Blue Album.
-
Oooh, I remember 311....
One song I really liked by them was "Hive" from their self-titled album.
-
Currently listening to M.I.A.'s song "Paper Planes" from her new CD Kala (which is her mom's name).
-
Man its weird. Some of the music that my parents listened to while i was growing up is starting to seep into me now for some reason. Like a little while back I started to listening to Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry" like crazy. Now for some reason I had "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins, so I got a hold of it, and holy shit, this song never sounded so great. Something about when those drums hit 2/3rds the way through, I'm just like... damn.
-
To Pyro:
Good music is just timeless, Pyro.
So, there's nothing really weird about older music seeping right into you! :)
MyD is listening to...
Right now, vibing to "World Town" by M.I.A. off her new album Kala.
The beats that are all over this album are just flat-out awesome, to say the freakin' least -- Switch (who produced a majority of the album), Timbaland, Diplo, and Blaqstarr really cranked out some bangin' beats.
-
Been listening to The Kinks a lot.
This Time Tomorrow
Strangers
Victoria
Lola
Waterloo Sunset
Pretty much all their stuff.
-
Mmm, a lot of Monkey Majik, Muse, Good Shoes, the Pigeon Detectives, Bishop Allen, and the Coral.
-
yay The Coral. I was introduced to them through Scrubs.
-
I really do like their newest album, Roots and Echoes. Very excellent stuff. A good listen.
-
The Coral's first album was great, but after that they tailed off for me. I think it's because the first album wasn't really easy to listen to, except for "Dreaming Of You", and then the rest are ludicrously morning-radio-friendly.
-
Golden Brown (http://youtube.com/watch?v=oIHBUGvAUMo)
One of my favorite songs ever.
-
The White Stripes -- Icky Thump
Wilco -- Sky Blue Sky
Caribou -- Andorra
Pharoahe Monch -- Desire
Talib Kweli -- Ear Drum
-
The White Stripes -- Icky Thump
Loved it.
Pharoahe Monch -- Desire
Hey, how is that?
Talib Kweli -- Ear Drum
Pretty good album, if you ask me.
I really like the song w/ KRS-ONE, "The Perfect Beat".
-
Hey, how is that?
Pretty good, but I've only listened to 4 songs so far. I'm too into this White Stripes album. It kicks all kinds of ass.
I'll let you know more after I actually listen to it. :P
-
Good deal, bro -- good deal!
-
Been listening to Mastadon: Blood Mountain. Petty good CD. Been getting into some metal lately for some reason.

I had to go digging for this thread, not an easy task on this snail OW has become. I really didn't want to start a new thread just for this.
I'm listening to Zen (http://www.amazon.com/Zen-DJ-Krush/dp/B00005MLVF/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1207851073&sr=8-1), by DJ Krush, though not all of it. Without its 4 rap numbers and a very weird 5th track, I think this is an awesome 40-minute album (tracks 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 12). What would you call this, Japanese hip-hop, trip hop? The styles vary a lot, not surprisingly for a compilation album. With my aversion to rap, it's difficult for me to find newer music that I like, particularly from such artists. The only reason I learned about the album, or even DJ Krush (a name that would have normally scared me away from even trying to listen), is the 12th track, Paradise Bird Theory (http://www.amazon.com/gp/music/wma-pop-up/B00005MLVF001012/ref=mu_sam_wma_001_012), which became the theme song for Crackdown, the Xbox 360 game. I got curious after playing a lot of the game again recently, and found Zen. Not new by any means, but it is to me.
-
I've been listening to various Final Fantasy VII stuff, including the Crisis Core OST, which I really enjoy, the Advent Children OST, and the ocremix Voices of the Lifestream compilation. I wasn't expecting to get so into the whole FFVII thing as much as I have, but I'm still going strong on the original game and am totally rabid to see what's in Crisis Core despite how cheesy it looked to me a month or so before release. So... whee. I'm in a musical rut otherwise. Not much has been interesting me lately other than Meshuggah's new one.

Does anyone here use Last.fm at all? For those who don't know it's basically a program devoted to this thread.
My account is here: http://www.last.fm/user/satpaler/
