Title: All that over a game of football.
Post by: Pugnate on Monday, February 05, 2007, 12:58:10 PM
And by football I mean soccer.

But anyway...

The news:

Police used tear gas to disperse crowds inside and outside the stadium at the Catania-Palermo derby.

Play was suspended after an hour when the gas drifted onto the pitch, affecting players.

About 100 people were injured in the clashes, while nine were arrested.

A policeman, Filippo Reciti, was killed when an explosive device was thrown inside his vehicle. Another policeman was critically injured.

News of Officer Reciti's death provoked grief and anger, with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) deciding to suspend all matches indefinitely.

Daughter's tribute

During the ceremony Mr Raciti's 15-year-old daughter Fabiana paid a tearful tribute to her father:

"The minute I heard you were dead I lost the will to live. I don't eat, I don't drink, without you there's no reason to go on. You are the very best father," she said.

Every picture makes me laugh now. In that last pic it just looks like the policemen are pissed off because they are all waiting to go to the bathroom.

I don't know why people get so worked up about that sport.  I mean, soccer is probably my favorite sport despite the fact that I don't really follow it at all anymore (or any sport for that matter), but... what the fuck?  I suppose soccer is probably the most popular sport in the world when you consider how many countries have it at the #1 spot, but doesn't this kind of behavior still seem ridiculous?  I mean... people *dying* over a fucking game of football?  That's just wrong.

Lol.  Leave it to Idol to turn a thread involving someone's death into a joke.  And a funny one at that.  :P

Well, the article says the cop was killed by blunt force and not a bomb. Still, wtf? These fans are crazy.

I haven't read the article, but that was the subtitle for one of the pics. Why are they confused?

Although he was initially believed to have died when a homemade bomb was hurled into his vehicle, a post-mortem revealed that a blow from a blunt object caused the injuries which killed him.

I guess your quote sounds more dramatic for the article. I dunno.

Thanks for clearing the confusion Gandhi.

Matches are still suspended all over Italy.

Not sure why you're surprised they did that when they're sooo wrapped up in a game where a bunch of people are fighting over a freaking ball and kicking it from one end of the field to another.

I don't know.. there are just somethings totally wrong with people.. it's like track people.. they just run around that oval over and over and over and over and over again.. day in, day out.. what's the point?

As a football manager, you have full control over your club including managing the club finances, wheeling and dealing in the transfer markets, managing club staff and a myriad of other options that will challenge even the best budding football managers. High school football is governed in the U.S. by the National Federation of State High School Associations. College football is governed in the U.S. by two bodies; the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The major league for professional football is the National Football League. Over the years, there have been other notable professional football leagues, including the All America Football Conference during the 1940s, the American Football League during the 1960s, the United States Football League during the 1980s, and the currently active United Football League.
