from a major site anyways (http://au.ps2.ign.com/articles/763/763624p1.html)...
Well, I know I'm going to have to be all over this. The first was rather awesome.

Hell yes, I will be picking this up on the release date. I did not know it was going to be a two disc set, that just makes it even more awesome.

So the PS2 gets God of War 2, not the PS3? WTF?

They started development of God of War 2 pretty much right after the first one, when PS3 development wasn't being done by every company yet. I'd rather have this one on PS2 and not have to wait longer for a PS3 version to be made, they said the third game will most likely be on PS3 though.

I think it is because of development time. That's why you haven't seen the latest Smackdown game -- a Sony staple -- on the PS3.
-
I'm glad it's PS2 because I have no intention of buying a PS3.
-
I still have GoW in shrinkwrap. I still haven't beat Killer 7 or Shadow of the Colossus or Dead Rising.
-
Hehe, I'm just surprised that there are still exclusive 'big' games coming out for the PS2.

Is a 3rd person action game ever really a big game though?

If you played God of War, you wouldn't have even asked that question. I'm not just saying that because I enjoyed the game, the game sold extremely well. The Devil May Cry games (even though you don't like them) were big games too. If you consider the Metal Gear Solid games as 3rd person action(even though there are a couple of elements that stray from the traditional 3rd person action), then you could throw those in the mix too. Don't forget the Prince of Persia games either.

What Tet said. Give the first a go. It's a difficult game not to like. There are definitely flaws, but if you like 3rd person action games on any level you'll probably love it. If you don't, I would seriously say that something is either very wrong with you, or you just don't like the mythical themes portrayed.

I really enjoyed the first God of War.
