PS3 launched in the UK earlier last week, and there weren't too many people lining up or anything, so it was pretty much a flop.
But, those who did line up got a free 46" HDTV from Sony.

Now there will be thousands at the next two events they mentioned an there will be no free tvs.

Yeah it's pretty much all over the web that, thus far, the PS3 is a flop.
Sony has to pray that some nice exclusives draw in a ton of new buyers somewhere down the line. Personally, I definitely see that happening.
However, what could happen is the makers of the big exclusives get worried about the PS3's lackluster sales hurting their revenue and putting the games on the 360 too. If that happens, the PS3 is dead in the water.

I'm happy for the guys who lined up for something that obviously didn't need any queue lines. Other than that, the whole thing stinks. Covering up bullshit with PR doesn't exactly make me love Sony. The price of the crippled euro console is obscene, and I can't see how anyone with any love for money would go for it.

They sold 165 000 units, becoming the fastest selling console in the UK. Perhaps they just had a big supply.

Have you guys seen Little Big Planet? I might end up having to buy a ps3.

The way I see it, the console wars are going to be won by first party games. The fact that games cost so much money, I think that it will be really rare to see third party exclusives for consoles now. I know this is a really obvious statement, but the only way Sony can win this console war is if they release some new kick ass IP, or just make God of War III the sickest game ever made.

Aparently Sony sold over half a million units over the weekend in Europe. I don't know if that's a lot it's a big fucking continent), but it made a front page digg story.
As for first party games, this isn't the same Sony from the PS1/early PS2 days, their first party games are a whole lot better. Besides, they don't have to compete with Nintendo in that respect, they just have to compete with Microsoft.

PS3 sales drop 82% the 2nd week (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=23977), in case anyone is still following this.

Isn't that to be expected?

I'd say that's to be expected.
