Title: Ikaruga madness
Post by: PyroMenace on Friday, April 06, 2007, 10:33:27 PM
Alright so I finally got to play this at Matt's while I was over there. Needless to say the game really diminishes any skill you thought you could have as a gamer. After the shameful play through I experienced, we watched a youtube video of someone doing the final level without losing a life and could hardly believe the ridiculous show we were witnessing. Well my friends, that was nothing. Here is somebody who controlled both ships with utter perfection, warning, your brain will probably explode. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZEGyrEnXrk)

Holy fucking crap.  That's absolute dedication right there.  And that's also completely insane.

I have seen all these videos... naturally since I'm quite an Ikaruga fan.

Yes that is just insane.  It is so unbelievable how he manages to do it AND chain everything perfectly.

Haha I have that video on my computer and yes it does make your brain explode.  Man I want to play Ikaruga again sometime, but I don't have a Gamecube.

Yeah, I've seen that before.  I think once you get past the problem controlling two ships (mind you, not a small obstacle), the game would actually be easier that way.

You see evidence of it against the first boss.  He uses the black ship to block the black shots while the white ship behind lays waste to the boss.

I like Ikaruga, but I'm no where near hardcore enough to try to perfect myself for the game.  It's fun to play every once in awhile, but not fun enough for me to practice at it.

Oh, so that's what the game looks like.  I keep hearing about it, but this is the first time I see it in action--although I take it that's not typical action.  Heh.

Yeah, that makes it look easier than it is.

See, you can change your ship from black to white.  When you are black, you do more damage to white stuff, but you also make white shit fly out at you which will kill you if it touches you.  Vice versa for white.  You can change colors so that the debris/projectiles are the same color as you and your shield will absorb them, but then you don't do as much damage because what you are shooting is the same color.

It's very cerebral and requires lightning fast and accurate reflexes.

I've managed to one credit the game exactly _once_.  I haven't been able to do it again, and I don't play it frequently nowadays so I'm kinda rusty.

The good news is that the game is headed towards Xbox Live Arcade, so I'll definitely be getting it for Xbox360 when it comes out.

Probably one of my greatest game purchasing conquests was buying the cube version for 12 bucks.

I still haven't made it past the 3rd level.

I foresee another humbling experience.  I was never the best gamer, even when I had fast reflexes.
