With graphics! (http://peltkore.net/~szdev/crl/news.php)
-
Sweet, its shaping up nicely, gonna have to give it a try.
-
I really want a PSP version. The graphics are looking great!
-
. . . about CastlevaniaRL? Anyone know about this?

I guess someone needs to tell him to post here now if he wants, Idol actually already posted that update here.
-
Yeah, hes the guy that makes CastlevaniaRL. Guess a google search on CastlevaniaRL brought up my post on TME about it, so he started posting. I'll clue him in to the new digs.
-
Interesting.
-
Sorry about that, didnt know about the forum switch.
Also, I see Idol post was about 1.21, this 1.22 is much more polished ;)
-
I dont know about the java capabilities of the PSP, for now I am planning on a cellphone version, perhaps for December (some pending things on my schedule now)
-
Ohhh...even more updated! Weee!
-
Awesome! Keep 'em coming, Slash! And I'm still hoping for a PSP port! :-[
EDIT - Topics have been merged.
And that's great, Slash. Glad you're still working hard at it. I'm sure lots of people would dig a cellphone port. I don't use cells so not much use to me, but any mobile gaming is good gaming, I say.
-
1.23 Released with bugixes, more special effects and a tutorial mode ;)
-
Games like this never have a tutorial. That's actually a great idea, I think.
-
Sweet. Will download.
-
Here you have it, a brand new version of CastlevaniaRL ;) This one comes with important additions, and fixes like keys on pillars and inaccesible training area.
Find it at http://crl.santiagoz.com

Keep it up mate! Thanks for the update!

I finally went to try this game, and I keep getting "Server Too Busy."
Edit: Nevermind... It had something to do with Peer Guardian 2.
-
Damn, that looks really really nice, and I should probably get on the same boat at Scott.
Have you ever been dugg? I've got a feeling it'll probably be happening pretty soon.
-
I decided that this game was perfect to test my Java installation on Ubuntu. I do have to comment on something, right as soon as you start the game:
We couldn't be in a worse situation... with the charriot like this we cannot make it to Petra, and this creepy forest...
The word is spelled chariot.
Edit: I like the game. Gotta love that Castlevania music. This game reminds me quite a bit of Simon's Curse.
-
I still haven't tried it, although I've been meaning to. I tried to post a story on digg about it, but apparently my headlining writing skills suck as only 2 people 'dugg' it. More of a factor that I have no idea how to attract people to upcoming stories than the quality of the game I'm sure.
-
I did try it, finally. I got no Castlevania music, and to be honest, I was put off by the very primitive motion and complete lack of animation. Is there supposed to be? Since I got no music, I'm thinking other things may not be working up to par either.
This may be just the thing for cell phones, though. It compares more favorably to mobile RPGs.
-
Roguelikes don't usually have animation. Most of the time they don't have graphics at all. Here is a "screenshot" of ADOM:

Thats just how the games play.
-
Um . . . *Summons up all tact possible* I wasn't aware that anyone still played games illustrated in that fashion. I can see that CastlevaniaRL definitely looks good in that company. I would have enjoyed a game like this very much in my youth.
-
Dude, you weren't aware anyone still played roguelikes? There's like a billion and one out there, it's crazy. I love the damn things myself. Still really wanting a good one for PSP, though.
-
Sadly, no. This is the first I've heard of such archaic-looking games surviving for upwards of 2 decades. They got lost on me, among nostalgia and emulation oldies. Now I know a little more. I'm still not interested in playing them, but I won't come off as such an ignoramus next time the subject arises. :P

I like the gameplay depth they have. Theres a bit of luck involved (sometimes a lot of luck), but you can really think situations through and do damn near anything at any time. Close to death I'll drink a potion or read a spell and hope for the best. Sometimes it saves me (woot, teleport scroll!) sometimes it kills me...its kind of fun either way.
You may not care to try them, but if you do, my faves are ADOM, CastlevaniaRL, DoomRL (very actiony), and Dungeon Crawl.
-
Man, there's just so much I can play! (and I have too much time on my hands as it is). Beween all the consoles, the portables and the PC (which includes decades of stuff, emulated/ported or native), I have to limit myself to what I'll really enjoy. Stuff like CastlevaniaRL is not going to hold my attention for long. I hear what you're saying, but even for depth in role playing, there are many more-modern options out there.
Bah. I'm not expressing myself well enough. I feel small on this front. I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, and I hope the game is a big success with everyone who appreciates the genre more than me.
-
I get what you're saying. I thought the same when I heard about them. Every time I'd see someone rave about them I'd play it again. They grew on me...now I like playing.
I dont play them much compared to other titles, but they are perfect little diversions.
-
Yeah, that's more or less what they are. Good diversions. But Cobra is right, which is why I don't play these nearly as much as I used to. I simply don't have the time for games anymore, so I have to really pick and choose. I still haven't finished Okami or Bully, much less Metroid Prime 2. Damn it. And I can't break myself away from Gears of War, sooo...
