didn't know whether to put this in gaming, serious issues, or here. so here it is...

ok. i can understand where they're coming from - but fuck! seriously! me and a friend made a quake level based on part of our city back in the day, does that make us potential terrorists? it's enough to make you want to blow something up. hmmm...

I want to start a web site that exclusively hosts game maps of schools.
-
I think the last statement the guy made really brings it home. This is madness. How in the name of God did they get any kind of legal right to do any of this at all? I don't see how it's even possible. The kid didn't do anything even remotely wrong. How the fuck can they get away with this?

In high school my group of friends always thought it would have been awesome to turn our campus into a giant paintball playground. School's just lend themselves to cool looking battlegrounds. I'd assume this was no different.
-
Exactly. How many game developers made DM maps of their offices? It's just fun to turn real-life locations into maps. It's quality entertainment. Sure, in *theory* it *could* mean something... *maybe*. But what evidence do you have? Zero.

Yeah, I could definitely see how questioning him would be justified. If he was crazy and suicidal you might want to do something. If he's a normal kid then leave him the hell alone.
-
Man that is bullcrap! What the Hell is wrong with this world??
I remember back when we used to play Quake 1 we made a map of our high school! That was fun!

I hate to pull "the race card", but I think its because he's Asian.
-
Race card? Asians don't commit many crimes...
-
well there was that rather large one recently...
i think it's a bit cynical to suggest there are racial connotations as to why this has been handled the way it has. given that the vast majority of school shootings are carried out by whites teens, it would be entirely unjustified - unfortunately, i wouldn't be entirely surprised if it were the case though.

What sort of fucking parents are those? His parents made the discovery and turned him in? That's just... the kid has bigger problems if his parents are such jack asses.
-
It would be ironic if he turned violent in response to his parents actions.
-
And funny.
OK not funny, but I laughed at your comment.

Ironic twist on the saying. If you're going to do the time, you may as well do the crime.
-

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying the act would be funny but rather his reasoning ironic. After reading my comment twice I could see how the two might be lumped together.

Buildings you know are great practice to learning mapping. Most people do their house, school, office, or mall. In fact, I was planning on doing my local mall a while back. That was before this (http://cbs2chicago.com/local/local_story_342121223.html) happened. Imagine if I had made the map...

That sketch of the suspect is hilarious. They made him out to look like a monkey.

You've obviously never been to California.

From what I know it's sort of a different deal. Most of the violence is directed to individuals or small groups at a given time. It's not like they go in with the intention of taking as many people as they can with them, but rather to screw a specific target over.
In a strange way, the specific target is more acceptable in that it's easier to understand. Someone does something to you, you hate them, you hurt them.

This kid is a victim of extremely bad luck and timing. I found a thread where they were discussing it (they being kids from that school). The map was release just 2 weeks before the VT shooting. If the shooting never happened no one outside of a small group of people playing it would have even cared.

ok, the vast majority of school massacres. at least the ones i've heard of.
