I saw it mentioned in the BitTorrent/streaming thread, and then I got invited by a friend of mine. It's still in its beta stages, but they've just signed a deal with WB and it looks set to be huge. They already have deals with Much, Alliance, Aardman (Wallace and Gromit) and a bunch of other people.
For those of you that don't know, it's on-demand streaming TV in high quality by the guys that made Skype and, previously, Kazaa. The download on the thing is about 6MB/minute, which, for the quality it offers, is actually pretty damn impressive. I know one of you's already contacted me for an invite, so how about the rest of you? does it interest you at all?
-
I can't see myself using that, and I was sort of reading with mild passing interest until I heard Kazaa. I didn't know the same people did Skype, but... jeez. That thing was *lousy*.
Anyway, I take it they've redeemed themselves for that one, but I can't see myself streaming TV. I don't watch too much in the first place, and when I do it's generally just as a sideline to something else I'm doing. Still kind of an interesting idea. Maybe it just seems like too much effort to me.

Yeah, I read about Joost in Wired several months ago. It sounds interesting, but I am not sure how interested I am in it. Is it a for-pay service? What sort of content is there?
-
ok, i'm interested. i've heard of this before, but know very little about it. if you've got a spare invite, my email is slothman@gmail.com. cheers!
-
I'll take an invite as long as it's not a pay service.
-
It's free. Ad-supported, but very little - an ident before and after a show, and one ad every 30 minutes on the dot.
If you want invites, I need emails and real names.
-
I sent you a PM with my info.

I've heard Joost mentioned a lot, but I didn't know what it was until now. It sounds pretty cool though. I think in the future cable TV will be replaced by online streaming video. We aren't there yet in terms of reliability and bandwidth, but we're not far off.

Yeah, thanks again for the invite.
I was just checkin it out and it seems pretty cool, especially for a beta.

Sent, sent, sent and sent.

graargh! i'm running win2k, and it requires xp.
thanks for the invite anyhow. i'm putting xp on soon, so i'll give it a go then.
-
Ah, sorry about that. As long as stuff works for me I don't pay too much mind to specs. xD
-
heh, it's hardly your fault!
it's just mildly irritating, because if something works on xp, then as far as i know, there's no real reason why it won't work on 2000 unless it's specifically told not to.
-
Thanks for the invite. Having trouble getting it to download, their servers seem slow... I'll try again tomorrow.

You're right but I reckon it'll have noting to do with PCs, you'll browse from the TV and stream right to it.

Downloaded and installed nice and easily, it seems to run pretty nice so far, will have to check it out in detail a little more later.
