Hooray! (http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2007/biosuit-0716.html)
You know in those sci-fi movies, they don't wear those super bulky space suits? Scif-fi no more!

That actually looks pretty cool. Now our female astronauts can do space walks and show off their bodies.

Must resist urge to make reference to anime.....

Shit...
-
Obvious fashion perks aside. I can imagine this will make performing complicated space walks vastly easier. I don't know how astronauts manage to get anything done with the current space suits.
-
It is pretty insane that current space suits require 70-80 percent of the astronauts energy just to bend the suit. I can't believe the technology is still so juvenile.
What really took me aback when I read the article, though, was that it said we would be landing on mars in 10 years. We are nowhere close to landing on mars. They must assume that some significant technological leaps will occur in the next 10 years.
-
The technology itself is available. Unfortunately we have been doing none of the needed engineering to make a trip to mars a reality. I'm pretty sure we could accomplish the goal with today's means. We just need to actually start developing some of the ideas to make it possible.
Mars Bitches!!! M-A-R-S!

Don't be silly. The aliens would destroy us long before we reached the surface. This is a diplomatic solution, not a scientific one.

MIT.... how much you wanna bet they all looked at the one female in the group and said, "You get to be the model."

Yes, but shortly afterward they discovered that the only female was much too fat for the spacesuit, so they picked the most effeminate male nerd instead.

For whatever reason, this thread reminded me of these:

I think that these new suits will make it much more comfortable for astronauts to drive 500 miles without stopping to assault their lover's lover.

Well, the adult diapers are built in.
