Title: Interview with Orrin Keepnews
Post by: Quemaqua on Tuesday, August 07, 2007, 08:28:02 PM
Orin Keepnews is an interesting dude (http://www.amazon.com/gp/blog/post/PLNK1AY07YXE3IUXG), though I suspect I'm the only guy who'll find this interesting.  He's something of a legendary jazz producer, and he's been in the business for a long, long time.  He's now 84.  This interview was occasioned because he's got something of a collection of records entitled "The Keepnews Collection" coming out, and these are basically just his picks of some different and lesser-known (apparently) jazz greats under the control of a particular record company that recently acquired (I gather) a pretty big laundry list of music.

Anyway, I find it utterly fascinating, though I guess nobody else will.  I discovered this new collection when I was in my local record shop the other day and I got this (http://www.amazon.com/Caravan-Art-Blakey/dp/B000PY30K8/ref=sr_1_1/002-3681444-5188867?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1186542756&sr=1-1).  They just don't make music like that anymore.  Everybody should own this album.
