Me too, though I have too much clutter for even a demo on this machine right now.

You know what I like? id software runs their own torrent tracker (http://zerowing.idsoftware.com:6969/).

Compare this to most demos/betas that are Fileplanet exclusive where you need to pay to get access to them. For Example, the Crysis MP beta went up...founders club only which is the most expensive fileplanet subscription.

It's good that they want to push their product, to get as many people to go download the DEMO that they can, which they hope will lead to more gamers to go out and pick the game up.

I think the "Demo Exclusive to [Insert Web Site Name Here]" Stuff is pointless.

I always thought the point of releasing demo is to get it out to as many gamers as possible, so that the gamer will go out and buy the full version of the game ASAP.

This "Exclusive Demo To [Insert Web Site Name]" Crap doesn't help a game's cause to try to help move units of a game off the shelves....

MyD, the point is to make money. More "premium members only" content = more money.

I wonder how much a demo actually contributes to game sales? It can't be that significant.

This demo looks great (Normal Graphic Settings), runs well (in 1024x768), and is a lot of fun on my PC.

So, who else downloaded this thing???

Anyone game to play, anytime soon?
Tonight? Next few days??!?!!?

Hehehe you sound like a desperate g/f... are you a desperate g/f D?
I think I'll skip this though Bio is still taking up my attention when it comes to games.

I downloaded it, but I probably won't have the chance to play it until late tomorrow night or early Friday morning.

I played a map this morning and I have to say I love it.  I don't know if I was playing a bunch of n00bs or what, but the only time anyone could beat me was if there were like 4 enemies and me in tight quarters (I even won those battles sometimes) or if I was flying/driving a vehicle and got shot down by missles.

Damn it.  I wish I had the space for it.  I really need to get that stupid HDD fixed.  I've only been saying that for 6 months now.

I'm definitely sold on this game.  I love it.

I am gonna wait for some reviews, but that's pretty good news. I hated Quake IV so I hope it isn't anything like that.

Well I mean there is the Strogg, but it's nothing like Quake IV (though I like Quake IV).  It's actually just like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, plus vehicles a-la Battlefield, plus a few extra tweaks such as iron sights and new upgrades.  Except instead of two human teams you have aliens.  So yeah, there is that.

Well...shit, sometime between downloading it, transferring to my PC, and burning to DVD the file got corrupted and I dont have any working version of the demo. Oh well....probably unplayable for me anyway,

Well I'm glad your enjoying it Scott and from what you describe I think I'll like it too if its a lot like Wolf: ET.

Oh yeah, three things I thought were fairly significant departures from W:ET:

1)  Engineers don't plant dynamite anymore, soldiers do.  Personally I don't like the change.  Now engineers' only purpose is to construct things.  It's weird because engineers are the ones that blow things up with heavy explosives in real life.  Plus I think it's a bit unbalancing.  Now a lone soldier can plant the explosives and camp the plant with a rocket launcher or heavy machine gun.  Before, you were sort of at the mercy of your MP40 or Thomspon and you wouldn't be able to withstand more than a couple enemies.

2)  Covert ops actually take on the weapons of the body they use.  So you don't have your sniper rifle, you have whatever you picked up (but you get it back if you lose your uniform).

I still haven't figured out how you tell if someone is a covert ops.  Before, you could tell by their skin (if it was an axis that stole a allied field ops uniform), their weapon, or their name flashing weirdly when you ran your cursor over them.  So far as I can tell now, the only way to tell is to see if they are running in the wrong direction or have your name.

3)  Once you are out of grenades, you're out until you die.  Ammo packs don't refill your grenades.

It's decided... I'm pre-ordering this.

Well your post before this was slightly negative, so what made you decide?
Title: Re: Quake Wars Demo Tomorrow
Post by: scottws on Friday, September 21, 2007, 11:53:56 AM
I wouldn't say it was negative, those things were just slight breaks from what I was used to from RtCW and W:ET.  I absolutely love the game.

It feels just like W:ET does, with a few added dimensions (vehicles, deployables) and a few minor changes.  Oh and a huge graphical upgrade.

Damnit...

Well I guess I'll wait for the Unreal reviews as well. How is it running your 8800GTS?

Runs great at default details at 1680 x 1050  It stutters occasionally, but I think that's lag, not hardware.

Has there been any talk about single-player stuff?  Like bots, etc.?  Just curious, as it's so frequently that I pick this stuff up and then my friends disappear or have other regular places they play and they don't play with me, which sort of defeats the purpose of me buying the game because I don't like playing with random idiots most of the time unless the community turns out better than expected.  But I played a ton of Quake 3 with bots.

The demo is supposed to have bots.  I read they aren't that bad, actually.
