Title: Tabula Rasa looks really good ...
Post by: Quemaqua on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, 12:47:45 AM
... in this video, anyway (http://www.gamespot.com/video/516716/6177532/tabula-rasa-official-movie-6).  Too bad the game itself looks like every other MMO out there.  Oh well.

It was actually kind of fun from what I played of the beta, well my roommate's beta account anyways.  I played it for a couple of days during the recent FilePlanet subscriber beta and parts of it were really cool, there was a good chunk of stuff they needed to fix though.  I might consider this game after I play a demo of the retail version.  I had fun with the LOTR MMO trial that is still going on right now, so I might jump into that before I even think of getting Tabula Rasa, especially since LOTR is $30 at most places.

PCG have been giving a lot of coverage to this. Heck they even gave Garriot his own column.

It's looking better to me now.  Not enough to jump on board, but I think the game could be well worth playing after there are a few updates and additions and balances.

I think Dragonlor posted on it a bit on another thread, but yeah he bought the collector's edition on launch and has been having a blast with it so far.  My interest is definitely piqued since I've been watching him play off and on since he got it and I'm considering getting it so I can play with him.

One of the complaints in the review are the visual. Looking at vids and screens, I dont really know what hes referring to. Its definitely not gorgeous, but its not bad enough to warrant a knock back.

Yeah, I thought that was a bit off myself, the visuals look pretty nice, Dragonlor is running it on medium settings and it looks pretty good.

I'll third that, too.  I thought some of it looked pretty good, even.  It looks like an MMO on the lesser side of the scale, but it doesn't look terrible at all.  Things seem pretty competent, and some of the designs are cool.

That Collector's Ed would be sweet, if there was no Monthly Fee attached.

Well heres what I think so far of the game.  Even after level 20 the game has yet to lose my interest.  The quest from most MMOs tend to become a bore, or feel like your doing the same thing over an over, but In Tabula Rasa each quest has its own story and feels different each time.  The only issue I have with the quest is the lack in detail on where a mob is located.  Luckily most people in game will tell you about where to find the mobs are located.  Another issue is the escort quests in the game can be a slight annoyance, but easy enough to do with no real issues.  Lag is another issue but that is in a constant fix with patches, in the last couple patches they fixed the stability in the servers.  They have had already 2 large patches to fix know bugs, and already working on the next large patch.

Now to the graphical aspects of the game.  I run my game on low to normal settings depending on what I'm going to be doing.  If I'm going to be doing instances I run on low settings to keep my frame rates consistent.  When soloing I jump up to normal to view the higher detail of the environment.  also to comment of the review from gamespot that guy is dumb thats all.  When I get my new video card I'll post up some screen shots.  But other wise even on the setting I have now the views are pretty spectacular.

Well, Kevin VanOrd reviewed it.  Of course the review doesn't make sense.  He's a fucking idiot.

During tomorrow's GameStop Game Days sale tomorrow only, looks like:
Tabula Rasa: Regular Ed = $14.99
Tabula Rasa: Collector's Ed = $29.99.

I'm looking all over the site here (http://www.rgtr.com/index.html)...
What is the monthly fee for this game?
Is there a special yearly fee (like some MMO games have)?
Or a special lifetime fee (like Hellgate had)?

$14.99 a month.  It's on the website under the link to buy the game.

NCsoft Cuts? Tabula Rasa in Trouble? [September 09, 2008, 7:46 pm ET] - Viewing Comments
GamesIndustry.biz reports a rumor that NCsoft is planning on cutting about 50 positions from its European office in Brighton, reversing an expansion from just a year ago (story), saying that this is the result of the cancellation of an unannounced MMOG the studio had been creating. The report is attributed to "a number of sources close to the company," and the story also includes speculation that Tabula Rasa is in trouble, saying: "It is also thought that the company's troubled MMO Tabula Rasa will be discontinued at some point in the coming months due to continuing poor subscriber numbers."

Okay, I recently ordered Tabula and it arrived in the mail.
I just installed it.
Letting it update and all.

Now, I guess, would be a good time to try it and all...

Oh, it does.

But, hell -- you could buy the game for like 96 cents from Amazon if you say need a new game card, right? :P

That sucks if the rumor is that it's going to go down, though.  I actually really liked the look of this game, and if I had more time for it I might have been interested.  It looked fun and I dug the art style.

I forgot to post it, but NCSoft did say they had no plans to pull the plug anytime soon...
Who knows how long "anytime soon" was though, of course...hehe

I'm betting nobody will be playing Tabula, since WoW: Lich King is coming out Tuesday.
Not like many were probably playing Tabula, anyways...

The beginning of the game is awesome.  All the quest have good story and dialog to go with them so they aren't a hassle to do.  But after say lvl 25 they all start to basically become like every other mmo "I need you to go out and kill 10 of these dudes."

"Lord British" aka "General British" (Richard Garriott) leaves NCSoft to continue to pursue his dream of space exploration (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/42896/Lord-British-Leaves-NCSoft)

Lord British Leaves NCSoft
Nov 11, 2008 at 11:58 AM - Andrew Burnes - 12 Comments

Having seen the wonders of space first-hand, Richard Garriott has left NCSoft and his Tabula Rasa MMO to pursue other interests:

I am happy to finally be able to write the players and community of Tabula Rasa. We've been on quite a journey together. First in creating a game unlike any other on the MMO market, then growing a loyal community and finally launching the game and its players into space with Operation Immortality. It has been quite an unforgettable journey, one that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

I am very grateful to you loyal players for sticking around through what I think we can all honestly say was a rough launch. I thank the development team for pushing hard to get polish, updates and new content out every month since launch...a feat that I think is unusual in MMO development. They have a lot to be proud of.

Many of you probably wonder what my plans are, now that I have achieved the lifelong dream of going to space. Well, that unforgettable experience has sparked some new interests that I would like to devote my time and resources to. As such, I am leaving NCsoft to pursue those interests.

This news is difficult for me to deliver. I am honored to have worked with the team I've had and I'm grateful to the community who makes this game so unique and fun.

    Thank you and farewell.

    Richard "General British" Garriott

i have it but I don't play anymore.  Like the reason I stated above and money issues.  the game just losses it's awesomeness after lvl 25 or so.

Dont feel bad, no one will be playing it after Feb. (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/56044) Though starting Jan 10 the game will be free to play. So if you wanted to try it, theres is your chance. Just don't get too attached.
