Title: The Sims 2: Bon Voyage Expansion -- Issues w/ the SecuROM Copy Protection
Post by: MysterD on Saturday, October 13, 2007, 09:12:32 AM
Looks like the SecuROM Copy Protection is causing all kinds of nasty issues for owners of Sims: Boy Voyage expansion... (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/10/12/2218231&from=rss)

Here's The Official FAQ from Sims 2: Bon Voyage's site, as it discusses how the SecuROM CP works. (http://bbs.thesims2.ea.com/community/bbs/messages.php?threadID=586cb2d4a69162c5b8937c45c94b79e5&directoryID=211&startRow=1&openItemID=item.211,root.1,item.61,item.23)

After Bioshock and now this w/ Sims 2 expansion (a very popular mainstream series), man -- Securom might wind up on the path to becoming as infamous StarForce..

Oh no, shitty copy protection on a Sims expansion!  Now I can't complete my Sims collection, guess I should just go cut myself now.

The SecuROM CP dials home here -- like it does w/ Bioshock.

I'm really getting tired of this "dialing home" stuff.

According to the FAQ I linked up there -- though, it does seem funny that if you do download the game to try and pirate the game, yes -- the game will in fact dial home and if it notices you have a non-real copy of the game, it'll ask you to buy a license to play it.

Hehe.
