Title: Really late to the party: Rune
Post by: idolminds on Monday, October 29, 2007, 11:29:27 PM
Quite a while back I bought this pack of games. Deus Ex, Myth 2, Oni, FAKK2, and Rune (maybe one more, I forget). Oddly, I played pretty much all of them EXCEPT Rune and for the life of me now I have no idea why. Tonight while looking through my discs I installed the Rune demo, and its really cool. Visuals seem to hold up well, nice controls...why didn't I play this before?

So why am I not installing the full game? Because my Rune disc got broken. I am a sad panda. All I have is the demo now until I can track down another copy. Damn. Beheading things is fun.

Rune was a decent game, and also a grade A case of wasted potential.  There were some brilliant moments, and I did enjoy a fair portion of the game, but the combat was too repetitive and not nearly deep enough.  Still, it was a cool way to while away an afternoon when you just wanted to spend some time in a crazy viking paradise.  I'm pretty sure I still have my copy around here somewhere.

I had this for a while from one of those double packs of old games they used to sell.  Had no idea what it was, but was actually pretty impressed.  I never finished it, and I'm fairly certain I eventually gave it away or threw it out, but I liked it a fair bit until I stopped playing for whatever reason.

Damn it doesn't seem so long ago that I watched Xessive play this. Time flies.

I have this, and I did play it all the way through.  I remember liking it well.

Hehe I remember eating lizards! :P

The game had a lot of funky things. The Hel levels are the most part I remember.

It was in the Unreal engine right? I think that's the first thing you told me.

Haha yeah Iw as so excited about the Unreal engine back then and it was nice to see a completely different game running on it. I still love the original Unreal engine. Every once in a while I'll install Unreal or even Rune just for the hell of it :)

Rune brought the joy of being a badass Viking back into games!

The Unreal engine was awesome for me.  I know early versions had problems on GeForce cards, but by the time I got into Unreal and later Rune, it had been fixed.  It was silky smooth on my GF2 MX.  Best looks for the time too.

I'm actually really tempted to buy that and I don't know why.
