Really, we swear! (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/12/04/fyi-free-xbox-live-marketplace-content-and-silver-accounts.aspx)
ust a reminder that if you have a Silver account, you won’t have access to free content on the the Marketplace (like demos) when they are first posted. That content will be available to Gold level exclusively for one week, after which Silver members will have access to the free content.
The Fall update has a special message (above) to reflect this as well. If you have a Silver account and you see a piece of content that has a red circle with a slash through it (like the ‘Ryan Industries Plasmids and Gene Tonics’ content above) you’ll have to wait until a week after the content is released to access it.
This is not done to annoy our Silver members—limited time exclusive access to content is just one of the many benefits of having a Gold Xbox Live account.
Oh whew! I was totally going to be upset over this.
Asshole.

Do people really pay for Gold memberships on the PC? If so, I think if we could get our hands on that list of subscribers it would be a good opportunity to clean up the gene pool a bit.
-
Wow, scott. I think you just had a Que moment. I couldn't have said it better.
-
Or have them mail their checks to my home address.
-
I think "Windows Live Subscribers" are actually Xbox Live subscribers that now use it on PC. I don't see any PC gamer wanting to pay for what Live offers, which is nothing.
I just thought this was a dick move on the 360 side. "We arent doing it to annoy Silver members"...the fuck you aren't. What other reason would you take away something like that? Why delay the release of free content to your free subscribers if not to annoy them into buying a Gold subscription?
-
This isn't exactly Games For Windows Live related, but if they really wanted to add value to a Gold membership they would make everything cheaper for Gold members vs. Silver members.
-
I don't really have a problem with this at all.
As for making everything cheaper, wouldn't that kind of be counter-productive?
-
Not if they make more money with the increase in Gold subscribers and/or the increased numbers of purchases by Gold subscribers.
-
Ah, I get what you're saying. I've never really looked on the Live marketplace on a 360 so I have no idea how the pricing and everything works. That really wouldn't be a bad idea as long as they found the sweet spot.
-
I was a gold member the first 3 months I had my 360. I thought it would be cool to play games with some of my co-workers because we all talked about it and bought 360s at the same time. We played Gears of War... once.
When I looked at all the stuff on Live, they still charge you whether you are a Gold or Silver member. So here I am paying for a Gold membership and not using because I'm not playing multiplayer with anyone. Therefore it's a complete waste. If some or all of the things on Live were cheaper as a Gold member, I feel like I probably would have bought more stuff and maybe even remained a Gold member longer to hold onto that benefit of cheaper items.

haha it was funny because it was out of character.

Haha seriously! I had to double-check your avatar!
I'm sure they did this to benefit those who did pay for a gold account, but it's stupid. It's like being denied complimentary ketchup.
-
Oh, you can have your ketchup. You just have to wait a week for it. Your hamburger may be a little cold, but you'll be fine.
-
It's ridiculous. Gold doesn't have enough draw for people who don't care about multiplayer, so they're hosing their silver members on purpose.
