Title: Pick one...
Post by: Pugnate on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 09:45:27 AM
I have a question... when we were throwing around names, it seemed like computicide was really popular. Why didn't we go for that? Or do you guys think it was too complex a name? Something easy for people to misspell?

Not that Overwritten is bad. It rox0r.

I registered www.pugnate.com with my cousin's webhosting company, and the package he gave at cost (so cool of him) actually offers two more domain names. So I am trying to come with two names to register. One is for my business -- leather etc. And the other I want to be something cool... a place I can store my old reviews and shit.

So whose idea was computicide? (Sounds like something so diabolical, that only Que could come up with it)...

Just wondering if that is going to be too difficult for most people to spell?

edit:

I am paying $40 a year for the following:

Info     Disk Space            15000 MB
Info    Monthly Traffic    300 GB

How good is that? I don't have experience with website stuff and stuff.

edit:

Looks like it was Cobra's idea. I should have known.

edit 2:

I could always regiter All Out Games for the memories. Though any search on google for it just seems to link it to homomojo.com

www.deathandSyntax.com (every other idea from Que had the word “Death” In it.)

Cool name that was taken:
www.pixeldust.com
However www.pixeldusting.com is OK, but it doesn’t sound that great.
Suggestions?

If you're going that route, how about mousewads.com?  I get the Roadrunner "sorry!" screen when I try it.  "WADS" is another way to enumerate the typical FPS keys.

I don't want the website name to associate with my online persona. You are right, I am making this harder than it should be. I just want a simple, unpretentious name. :)

moustick.com?

Or stickmouse.com haha this is hopeless.

Mouseandstick sounds.. sexual.  Like, maybe I am just dirty(and I certainly am), or maybe I just have been tricked into clicking too many porn sites by all of my friends (and I certainly have), but it just sounds off.

I like www.player1start.com

I like it as well, but I think Beo wants to register it. Besides it is a touch retro. I want something simple like it though.

I liked gametribunal.com but it sounds too serious and sorta pretentious. HI I KNOW TEH EVERYTHING!

armchaircritics? but then it sounds like another furniture place :P

I feel like I've stepped into the twilight zone, or one of those dreams where you run in slow motion and get nowhere.  OK, jokes aren't funny after they're explained, but if they were never funny or understood to begin with, who cares.

I UNDERSTAND that WASD is the typical term.  I used a DIFFERENT way of spelling out the FPS keys to make up a word for a site name, because WASD is in no way a natural letter progression in English.  I thought of "mousewads" as a play on words, an anagram of sorts, which fit in with the names that were being tossed out at the time.

That is all.

You know, I'm really surprised the politically correct media ain't had a real field deal w/ Crysis and calling it "racist," after the media went after:
--GTA: Vice City for the "Haitian gang killing" missions
--Res Evil 4 had lots of Mexican zombies as enemies to take on
--Res Evil 5 will have lots of blacks as zombies to take on
--Uncharted has a lot of black enemies to kill (as Yahtzee points out in his review)

I voted pixelnut but I like pixelhunt better.

You should do what que was saying and pull an amazon. Just call it a nice one-word simple thing; don't make it generic game site number one million. Think of the sites you go to regularly, how many of those describe themselves in the name? If you say a lot then it's clear the trend has to change. If you say not many, stick with that winning formula.

Also, idol's www.gamesandwaffles.com is awesome.

I like pixelnut because it is simple, but it doesn't say gaming...

www.player1start.com is nice, but could be mistaken' for www.playeronestart.com

Plus a logo for it would be P1S, which may sound like PS1... OK maybe I am looking at this too deeply.

Anyway I'll try to come up with other simple one word stuff.

Hey what does Kotaku mean?

As stated in an early FAQ in Kotaku's archives: "Otaku is a Japanese word meaning unhealthily obsessed. In Japan, otaku are further sub-classed into being creepy crazy for either video games, anime, manga, or idol singers. In the U.S. it's been mostly associated with fans of anime and manga. We are told that using "ko-" at the beginning of the word instead of "o-" adds an additional connotation of small, but Matt is 5"10", which in Japan is lavishly vertical.
