Yea I am sure this isn't a common occurrence or whatever, but if I was that kid, I'd be pissed.

02.29.08 - PM UPDATE
Microsoft has responded to Nathaniel personally. They are looking into the issue and working to correct the situation.
I wonder if I ever would have trusted that case to delivery services and Microsoft service, even if removal meant voiding the RRoD warranty and paying for repairs. The outer case can be removed, right? I think I've seen pictures of the bare-naked system. Now I'm not sure.
-
Or just go buy another 360 if it meant that much.
-
A.) I hate The Consumerist.
B.) While what happened to this guy is really shitty, I also wonder why he ever sent it in if it meant that much to him. Yeah, sure he should be able to send it in and expect this kind of thing not to happen, but we don't live in a perfect world. I clear my car of all valuables before taking it to the mechanic, hide my passport in other countries when I know cleaning staff can get into my room, and write "ask for ID" instead of a signature on the back of my high-limit credit-card. You kind of have to protect yourself, and if something is really important to you (like this console is to him), you don't hand it off to nameless, faceless strangers.
I'm not saying he deserved it at all, but what the fuck was he thinking?
-
That expresses my thoughts exactly. It's shitty, and I can't believe someone was dumb enough to "clean" it, but regardless he just shouldn't have sent the thing in.
-
Who cares about this twat? I feel even worse for this kid. What a shitty family. Peeking or not.
-
I watched that till the bitter end, thinking the real item would end up making an appearance. I couldn't conceive of anyone being that cruel to their own kid on Christmas day. Learning all the time.
The first thing they need to get, after fucking humanity, is a camcorder with a real microphone.
-
Jeez. That's fucked up. I didn't think it would be that big a deal reading about it, but just seeing the look on that kid's face... poor guy. And we wonder why there are so many hateful punks on the street.
-
That is fooked up.. It's just cruel. It would be funny if it wasn't a kid.
Hmm, I bet this would be funny to watch if:
-Victim is a college dude who think he's "all that."
-Instead of "winter clothes" the box is full of bats.
And we can watch as he screams & squeals his dignity away.
-
did any of you read the description on that youtube video? he got the 360, they were just winding him up because he peaked at his presents early.

I still think it woulda been funnier if some dude was mauled by bats :P

Sure they said they got him the 360 and that they'd upload the video but that was 2 months ago. I mean, they thought it was funny enough to post this video, but 3 months later and they can't post the video of him happy and playing the 360? Right.
-
That was definitely very horrible. But to go to the internet and post it is just pretty screwed up. I did laugh for a second when it was just clothes, but his expression was too much. At that point you say,"OK jokes over. Let's get that 360 now."
-
Yeah, beo, they might have gotten him the 360, but that's a fucked up thing to do to a kid. That effects them even if it's just a joke. His entire family was laughing at his expense while he was crushed. He'll never forget that. Were it me, I wouldn't even want to fucking look at the 360 after that if it were given to me.
-
For the cruel Xbox video, here's the antithesis. A kid getting an Elite and some Halo stuff. It's really too sweet. If you don't watch it all, at least skip to the end, it's kinda adorable.
-
well at least there's a happy ending to this story...

Actually hoob, the best part of that video is in the middle. That's one of the most grateful kids I've ever seen. I was laughing so hard I was in tears... that's some contagious happiness right there.
Also, it's pretty awesome that the Bungie guys sent that other dude so much stuff. I'm a firm believer that that's the kind of thing that makes a great company. I may not care for their games, but that was an awesome thing to do.
-
I'm torn between the "It must have cost a fortune!" to "I'm thrilled." and the part where he tries to give them his money. That's just awesome.
-
Seriously. It's kind of sad in comparison with that other video, and I'm sure it's really kind of an interesting social commentary, but I'll just stick to enjoying watching a kid get something he really wanted and actually appreciate it instead of being a spoiled brat. It brings back memories of when my parents bought me an NES.
