Horrific accident on Abu Dhabi-Dubai Highway (http://www.gulfnews.com/nation/Traffic_and_Transport/10196597.html)

I was on my way to work (I live in Abu Dhabi and I work in Dubai), and I was greeted by this catastrophe. Luckily we weren't hit, but it was close. My van was stuck in the midst of this chaos for 4 hours before they let us go on our way.
Not a fun morning. A lot of blood, smoke, and ash.
It was very likely the result of idiots speeding in the fog.

Glad you are OK man!! Yea the crashes in the Middle East always seem to involve many cars and a lot of destruction.
Did you take any pics with your camera phone?
edit:
Going through the link you posted. Some of the captions to those 13 images are startling.
Around 200 cars in total were involved in the crash
Wow.
-
thank God you're safe!!!
I hate seeing car accidents. Especially bloody ones.. a lot of them are just so pointless.
-
As opposed to some of them, that do have a point.
-
that's pretty insane - how the hell do 200 cars get involved in a single accident?
-
Holy hell that's crazy!
-
Seriously, that's crazy stuff. Glad you're okay, Xessive. We get accidents pretty much constantly around here and traffic is always horrible, but it's pretty rare we get something big like that. We don't have the weather conditions for it.
-
Damn, they probably got enough points for a gold medal for that and unlocked some new cars and tracks.
-
Holy Crap! We almost never have pile-ups of that magnitude here, and if we do its almost always weather related, and therefore with relatively minor damage.
I've never seen anything like that. Its rare for one car to light on fire like that, let alone dozens or hundreds.
-
It was probably all caused by some 80-year-old woman driving 30 under the speed limit.

The only time I've heard of such a thing here is on some fog-covered freeway. Cars just keep piling in, because they're driving too fast for the low visibility. That's horrible. Good thing you were spared.

Thanks guys! Thank God!
It was just ridiculous. They cleaned up real good though.
I got a few shots on my cell phone camera (I'll probably post 'em later on Facebook or something).
The disaster was attributed to the low-visibility conditions.. Though I believe it was primarily due to reckless speeding in such conditions and negligence to use hazard lights.
It was quite a sight though.
