Title: Yankees make post-season, yet Torre's status in question?
Post by: scottws on Monday, October 09, 2006, 05:02:30 AM
Apparently there are waves out there that New York Yankees manager Joe Torre is going to be canned by owner George Steinbrenner for failing to defeat detroit in the first round of the MLB post-season.

I think that is ridiculous!  It isn't easy to make the post-season in the first place, especially in the American League.  Now, sure, there is something to be said about the Yankees being by far the highest paid team in baseball and not winning the World Series since 2000 and losing to the Detroit Tigers of all teams, but come on!  It's not like they didn't make the playoffs or had a losing season!

I loathe the Yankees, but I just think that's unfair to Torre.  Completely unfair.

If you look at the Yankees overall hits per at bats in the last game it is horrendus. Actually, every game but the first is horrendus. There's no doubt who is to blame. In any case, I hate the Yankees, so...hahahaha for not making the second round playoffs.

I think the whole thing is the expectation that New York fans have that the Yankees should either win the world series or go deep into the playoffs every year

I could see him getting canned.... some other team will reap the benefits though when they hire him

With the Yankees payroll, the Yankees *should* win the World series every year... an early exit from the playoffs is pretty pathetic for a team with such high powered (and extremely high paid) talent.

Thats not true..just getting a bunch of talent together and throwing them together to make a team doesn't mean that they will be good. Look at the world basketball championships latley- we clearly have the biggest talent but we lose because we don't have the best team. Plus New York fans are assholes, they were getting down bad on A-Rod. You're supposed to rally for your team, not boo them.
