Subject: PS3 reservation plan and reservation allocations!!!
Date: 10/09/06 3:26pm
Attention store personnel:
On Tuesday, October 10, 2006, you will begin taking reservations on the Sony PS3 under SKU 020072 (PS3 Premium Edition) and SKU 020071 (PS3 Core Edition). YOU MAY NOT BEGIN TAKING RESERVATIONS FOR THE PS3 PRIOR TO October 10, 2006. Reservations are to be processed on a "first come, first serve" basis for your customers. Under no circumstances are reservation "places in line" to be held for customers. Our online reservation program will be activated at a future date: online reservations will be available as "bundle-only."
No forced bundles or any other customer "requirements" are allowed (our online reservation policy may vary). Reservations will be limited to one system reservation per household (customer is allowed to reserve 1 Wii and 1 PS3 if desired)
As these systems are in short supply and high demand, all stores are being allocated on their reserve quantity. Stores are not allowed to reserve above their assigned reservation allocation for any reason. Reserving above your assigned qty can result in disciplinary action.
Your assigned allocation for the PS3 is "16" units TOTAL between the 2 system choices. You are only allowed to reserve "16" units TOTAL of PS3. No more than 2 of these systems can be set aside to be purchased by store employees.
Please use the tracking form below to insure that you only reserve 16 units. Please record each customer's name and phone on the form below each time you complete a PS3 reservation.
As you process each reservation, you will need to communicate the following message to each customer:
Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household.
The reservation guarantees the customer a place in line only: it does not guarantee that the system will be available at launch.
Gamestop is not responsible for allocation shortfalls or shipping delays caused by the manufacturer.
Online product pricing and availability will vary and be fulfilled independent of store reservations.
As a service to your customers, please try to capture each customers correct e-mail address when processing the reservation. This will allow us to send updates to the customer as more games and accessories become available for their system.
So only 16 per store? I wonder how that stacks up to previous launches, but it sounds really low. And you know 2 will be reserved at every store for employees. Hell, I'd take one just to throw on ebay. I also dont get that "place in line" thing. Doesnt guarantee a system at launch? Then why the hell bother preordering?
-
Ah, yes. The bullshit begins anew. I waited in line for a GC because it was to be a Christmas present for my older daughter and me, back when she was like 9, and I still had my former life. Now, I wouldn't dream of validating even worse horror shows for these people. I'll look into it all sometime next year, if I'm still around.
-
So only 16 per store?
hahahaha... isn't that... extremely little?
Also why so bitter Cobra? These people aren't making you do anything.
-
This is sad. Reading a thread on IGN, people are driving past their GS/EBs and seeing people lined up to camp overnight to preorder in the morning. And it doesnt guarantee you getting a system anyway!

That's at least the second time you label me as bitter. Why so judgemental? Sure I'm bitter, about a lot more important things. This console stuff means shit, really. If it all went away, my life might actually improve some.
My comments come from understanding the machinations behind console launches. The idea is to whip consumers into a frenzy, then dole out the stuff in such limited quantities that the more mindless might be willing to kill someone to get their hands on it. Certainly a lot of them will wait for many hours, and plunk down extra cash to buy stuff they didn't want in the first place, just for the privilege of getting some new consumer toy which will be all over the place a few months later. That bugs me. Bitterness is too strong a state of mind to apply here.

Wow. Waiting in line to pre-order. Seems... strange.

While looking for the DoW expansion today I went to a couple EBs/Gamestops. They both had signs on their doors that said they weren't taking anymore preorders for the PS3. If the information was "leaked" yesterday and the move went into effect today, that just blows. Not only are there like five systems per state for launch, but almost no one had a chance to even try to get them.
-
Yup, all GS/EB preorders were sold out almost as soon as they opened.
-
Frigging insane. You know what? If I knew about it I probably would have preordered, and then sold it on eBay.
-
Hell, I wouldn't pay that much for a console if someone came to my door with it. No way that I would wait in line to pre-order one.

And I'm willing to bet a good number of the people who managed to get in a preorder today will pull that crap.
-
Still, I am geniunely surprised that people are still willing to fork over like $600 on a console that may not be very successful. I've heard it is an absolute pain to program for that Cell processor.
-
There are PS3 preorders up on ebay now. $1000 and up.
-
Thank you all for completing my last post. I'm with Ghandi.

In a somewhat related note, Jennie and I are going to try to get our hands on some of those Tickle-Me-Elmos and then put them up on Ebay in December.
-
Do you think those Elmos will be as big this go around? And will they be hard to get? They might have learned from last time and have a billion of them ready to go.

FUCK THOSE THINGS. We sell those at Wal Mart and those things have been flying off of the shelves and since I work in toys(for only 2 more days though) the only question I get numerous times is "Do you have any Elmos?" and they get all bent out of shape when I tell them no, they are hard to find right now, no one has them. One employee has already sold a couple of those Elmos on Ebay for $100 each(when they were $35 originally) and is holding on to the last few till their price goes up and they are even harder to find closer to Christmas.
-
I thought those things were popular like....5 years ago?
-
They were. But they released a NEW one! RUN TO THE STORE OR YOUR CHILD WONT LOVE YOU!
-
I have no understanding of how peopel still care about Elmo. I guess it was cute back then, but this is like the third or fourth iteriation of the toy and yet people eat it up like no tomorrow.
-
Yeah, I don't get that either. Who the fuck even *likes* Elmo? He's annoying as anything. Sure as hell wouldn't want that to be my kid's role model, no matter how young. Then again, I'm of a mind that kids these days are pandered to, which is why most of us grow up to be the insipid dolts that we are. So maybe I'm just jaded.
-
Yea... what the hell?
-
Its funny, I remember when me and Que stopped at the EB in berkeley and Que was talking to the guy working there and he told us about a guy that asked him to help him out with getting multiple preorders so he could sell them on ebay. I hate those fuckers.

:P Funny cartoon.
Although, the sad reality is that Nintendo is still #3. Maybe things will change after the Wii.
