Title: I Am Alive -> Update: Article about 7 year development (Reply 25)
Post by: MysterD on Thursday, July 10, 2008, 07:20:55 PM
In this post for Assassin's Creed sometime back after AC was done (http://www.overwritten.net/forum/index.php?topic=2170.msg49038#msg49038), I did mention that Ubi said Jade Raymond was working on "something else."

Well, we now know what that something is.
From 1Up.com.
The game -- I Am Alive.
Dubbed as a "Survival game." (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168638)

Jade Raymond's Next Project: I Am Alive

New disaster game with reassuring title helmed by Assassin's Creed alum.
By Steve Watts, 07/10/2008

Now that we've heard that the next Assassin's Creed is a long way off, some might be wondering what front woman Jade Raymond is doing with her time. Gamekyo reported on Thursday that the next project she's taking the helm of is titled I Am Alive. The new game will make its video debut at E3 next week, but the event won't feature a playable demo.

The game will be developed by Darkworks (Cold Fear) and published by Ubisoft. It's scheduled to hit in Spring of 2009, and it's being dubbed a "survival game," rather than survival-horror. Instead of taking out hordes of creepy beasts while hanging out in the dark, I Am Alive will be a first-person adventure game with low emphasis on weaponry. The game's plot will follow events after an earthquake in Chicago. Stick around for our E3 coverage to hear impressions and see the video for yourself.

What?  The next AC game is a long way off?  That's bullshit for reasons I won't get into.

Cool. I hope by "long way off" they mean mid 2009.

I've heard that many did NOT like the ending to the AC game b/c it's a massive cliffhanger....

It was but I don't think it was as bad as people made it out to be. It was confusing but it also made it clear that there's a lot more to the story than we've uncovered and that a sequel will follow.

I am really dying to play this original AC on the PC. Just, I don't meet double-core processor requirements, so I won't touch this UNTIL it hits the $20 price.

If I did have a double-core, I would've bought it when Gogamer had it on sale for like $32 or whatever it was.

So, c'mon Gogamer -- put it on sale for $19.90 + shipping. :P

She does indeed provide quite the package.

Sexy game producer, what nerd could resist? With Jade, what man could resist?! That is a one fine dedicated woman.

Looks like I Am Alive is coming in March 2009 -- which seems extremely odd to hear, since we ain't really had much previews or info on the game. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/i-am-alive-due-by-end-of-march-ubisoft)

Oh yeah -- Jade Raymond is NOT working on this one... (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/jade-raymond-not-doing-i-am-alive)

You know, I don't think AC2 will sell quite as well as its predecessor.

Though, do you think AC2 will be a much better game than the original?

Haha, the only reason this game is getting attention is solely because of Jade Raymond, and she has nothing to do with the game, thats just sad.

Jade should be a game character herself (Jade from BG&E aside of course).

Alright so there was a big backlash towards her, so I wasnt alone on that.

And it all culminated with this:

LOL.

I gotta go find a pic of me actually facing to the left (which would be towards Jade).

I Am Alive has has its development restarted by UbiSoft Shanghai.
It's running on the New Splinter Cell Engine. (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=231727?cid=OTC-RSS&attr=CVG-News-RSS)

jade raymond = marketing tool. with breasts.

she might well be some awesome game designer, but the way she's put forward in the gaming press, i feel pretty confident in my former assertions. especially since all the sans-breasts designers from every other ubi game are utterly anonymous.

You know, I probably shouldn't be surprised by this... but wow... thanks for that.

I tried the demo for this game on PSN a while ago.  It was somewhat fun, but I couldn't justify its price tag to make a full purchase.

Yeah, I grabbed it during the last sale for $5 (nearly 2 weeks ago). If I had spent more I woulda been frustrated with the PC announcement! :P I generally prefer to have PC versions, with few very poorly ported exceptions.

The Game Effect -> 5 page editorial - "Behind the Scenes: I Am Alive's Development Disaster." (http://www.thegameeffect.com/editorial/behind-the-scenes-i-am-alives-development-disaster)

This is basically about the 7 year development Hell this game went through - with rifts b/t UbiSoft; the original studio Darkworks that worked on it; and UbiSoft Shanghai (who eventually wound-up taking the game over from Darkworks).
